@songanddanceman100 Although it's possible that someone has taken an original recording by Dorsey and remixed it for stereo effect, I cannot say that was the case in this instance. I've had the track for so long that I cannot recall its source so I don't know for sure.
Thank you. So that means it is not the real Tommy Dorsey, but just some tribute type recording done in stereo at the time. I looked him up and he died in 1956 - just before stereo was available to the public.
This trombonist hits quite a few bad notes, so it is not TD.
This doesn't sound like Dorsey to me...close, but not Dorsey. Nice arrangement, but why is this in Db (Tommy always played this in D). Does the album list any credits or personnel? Just curious.
@Ode2Pops This was recorded by what constituted the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra after Tommy died. Stereophonic sound was just coming into its own at the time of his death.
My mom lived in the house behind the Dorseys. Their father was very strict about them practicing and would lock them in their room to practice. When he caught them sneaking out the window he started making them practice in their underwear. Just a little story my mom told me as a child.
One of the most lyrical musicians of his day (and that amazing breath control!) His playing greatly influenced his "boy" singer, Frank Sinatra. Dorsey often claimed to have written his theme song, but alas, it was not so. This was wonderful to hear in stereo--thanks!
@mortygwhiz - it fills our whole house beautifully through our 3 Bose speakers - turned out to be a great investment once I discovered music here!
I've playlisted 9000 songs on over 500 playlists for nearly 300 artists and 111 lists cover every year since 1900, so added this to the 1935 and TD lists ! ! !
So then this is not really Tommy Dorsey himself playing? If it was recorded in real stereo to begin with, why is it "remixed for stereo"?
