As to them being more commercial, It is every musician's dream to reach as many people as possible with their message. Their current line-up has been since Colony, and I think they've kept to those roots better than most.

@TheAmek Your an idiot, he changed his vocal technique from the earlier In Flames albums because of this reason his vocal cords were being ripped to shreds. Listen to IF pre Clayman Album and you will see a difference. His vocals became more screams and soft vocals. Now his technique is used across all genres of music not just heavy metal. You may have been a vocalist for 6 years but my sister is vocals teacher and has been for 17 years and she says his technique is 2nd to none.
