@lordkoos I met Charlie several times and he is almost a foot shorter than I. I am almost six foot so I'd say he was 5'1 or 2. He had some pictures taken with our band for his own personal album. I think I have one on my facebook page.

I read about Ira's "confrontation" with Elvis awhile back. Doggone shame, for Elvis really liked them up to that point, as his Mom was a big fan of their music. To quote Charlie, "My brother didn't get along with too many people." I've also read that Ira, backstage at the Ryman when the Everly Bros. got a rousing applause from their appearance, threw his mandolin down the hall. Either way, I still love their music, & Ira's tenor!

I was 7 when this was a hit. My dad was a farmer then. John Deare and Farmall part of the family. Where Elvis was a singer who lived up the road. Other popular singers performed at drive-in's. All looking for their big break. And most had success after all. Didn't know much about the Louvin Brothers until it finally clicked in for me around the mid-80's when I saw the video of them on CMT. Loved this song.... Great song . Great Memories. Old country music is the best.

This song is the best - the first one I ever heard by this fabulous duo. Ira and Charlie's close harmony is wonderful and they have great personalities. The more I listen to the Louvins, the more I realise how great was their contribution to the development of country and pop music in general. Same old chords, but unusual orders. So many simple songs that sound so fresh and original still. And now I can see them play on my PC!

Anyone know who wrote this song? It sounds a lot like many of the olde English ballads -brought into the colonies and saved in folk music like Housecarpenter (that Joan Baez sang)that go back hundreds of years.

I played in a bluegrass band through the 70s, two or three nights a week. We used to end with this one a lot. I still love it. I don't think there could be a better twist of a lyric, and they were such great singers. Man, I really love this tune.
