@lordkoos I met Charlie several times and he is almost a foot shorter than I. I am almost six foot so I'd say he was 5'1 or 2. He had some pictures taken with our band for his own personal album. I think I have one on my facebook page.
I read about Ira's "confrontation" with Elvis awhile back. Doggone shame, for Elvis really liked them up to that point, as his Mom was a big fan of their music. To quote Charlie, "My brother didn't get along with too many people." I've also read that Ira, backstage at the Ryman when the Everly Bros. got a rousing applause from their appearance, threw his mandolin down the hall. Either way, I still love their music, & Ira's tenor!
This music is awesome im young but damn i can say there wont be any other kind of music like this! My friends tell me im nuts for listening to this stuff, but this is what times use to be like the good times.!
There'll never be music like this again. Today's so called artists could sure take lessons from these brothers. Love the Wilburns, The Osbornes, and other family duets and groups, but there will never be another duet like the Louvin Brothers!!! They ruled the roost!
I dreamed I was strolling in the evening, underneath the harvest moon... I was thinkin' bout you, and then you met me in the moonlight, the stars were shining in your eyes....................
I was 7 when this was a hit. My dad was a farmer then. John Deare and Farmall part of the family. Where Elvis was a singer who lived up the road. Other popular singers performed at drive-in's. All looking for their big break. And most had success after all. Didn't know much about the Louvin Brothers until it finally clicked in for me around the mid-80's when I saw the video of them on CMT. Loved this song.... Great song . Great Memories. Old country music is the best.
mandolin went out of tune at 53 54 looks like ira wanted to stomp it that would have been freakin klassic man giant talent talent beyond comparision IRA AND CHARLIE ROCK ----- LOUVIN BROTHERS FAN FOREVER
This song is the best - the first one I ever heard by this fabulous duo. Ira and Charlie's close harmony is wonderful and they have great personalities. I think they both got better looking as they got older - . They always looked so classy no matter where they were and just seemed to enjoy their music together. Thank you for posting. - Paula
I don't know if this is by the louvin brothers or if it is even on youtube, but the song is called "I wish you knew" I think. If someone could give me some specifics that would be great! Thanx...
Yeah it's by the louvin bros. first verse goes like this i think,
i wish you knew how hard I've tried to tell you, how hard I've tried to get you off my mind, i wish you knew how hard I've tried to sleep at night, since I know that you're no longer mine, since you let another beat my time don't know if its on the youtube, but hope that helps.
The more I listen to the Louvins, the more I realise how great was their contribution to the development of country and pop music in general. Same old chords, but unusual orders. So many simple songs that sound so fresh and original still. And now I can see them play on my PC!
Anyone know who wrote this song? It sounds a lot like many of the olde English ballads -brought into the colonies and saved in folk music like Housecarpenter (that Joan Baez sang)that go back hundreds of years.
I played in a bluegrass band through the 70s, two or three nights a week. We used to end with this one a lot. I still love it. I don't think there could be a better twist of a lyric, and they were such great singers. Man, I really love this tune.
I hope you didn't take offense to what I said.....I have looked for the entire video, but can't find it...anyway, I do enjoy this one...thanks for having it...
Hi, I love this song by the louvin brothers....this is a video from the grand ole opry tv show....can you find the entire video....this one ends abruptly....
I love the Louvin Brothers too, but it would be just as easy for you to get the entire video yourself as it would be for me to get it. I know it "ends abruptly" but it's all I have.
Beautiful harmony!

Wow, what a dream I just had.
Not only did I dream that Satan is real, I also dreamed that you have a brother. Yet, now that I'm awake, I know you don't.
So who was that stranger that you were with in my dream?
Hopefully it wasn't Satan. He's not my preferred choice for a brother-in-law.

Wow, Charlie looks so diminutive next to Ira. Their story is amazing. I guess that's what happens.

Ira was described by some who knew him as having the temperment of a rattlesnake.
