@Legatomusic It's a Digitech GNX3 through a clean amp setting on a Bass Combo amp with a 15 inch driver. I started using a bass amp when I tested several amps with my 7 string. The low B just needs a bigger speaker.
Todd, how did you get those half steps in there? From what I know pentatonics contain no half steps. Until you add the tritone aka blues scale. But how'd you get it/ what notes
@Cjtreflip This is a "Pentatonic Blues" Scale. The "Blues" notes are a flatted 5th. So The blues scale is a Pentatonic scale with a flat 5th. Pentatonic describes the scale shape and "blues" just adds flatted fifths.
@Octane2009 Honestly it depends, but usually alternate picking or economic picking, but I also use a lot of pull offs. It all depends on the lick and the context.
I've always practiced with alternate picking, but my new teacher has switched me to directional picking... I'm not really sure which one is best anymore! Any comments?
Good question. In the words of Bruce Lee, "Take in everything, absorb what is useful". I'd say learn whatever he can teach you and add to your bag of tricks. Just keep filling that bag!
hey todd,, can you show the proper picking technique to getting warp speed? I'm really confused if I should use my wrist your use my fingers for the picking motion since a lot of my guitar heroes use varied picking techniques, I was wondering what you do to achieve your speed
@alapunk13 Well yes :) That's the point of my entire series! I'd say start at video lesson #1 and work your way up! From there it's all about practice.
I'm a bit confused about when to use a finger roll with the first finger and when to move the finger from string to string. So, in your example, you move your first finger back and forth from the 12th fret 6th string to the 12th fret 5th string. Could you also in this case put your 1st finger on both strings and just roll it back and forth to deaden the sting you are not playing and sound the one you are? If the pattern was played on the 1st and 2nd strings, would it then make a difference? Thnx
@massif20022000 Good question. Actually, if you want to bar the 12th fret to save some finger fatigue, that should work just fine as long as your muting is good. I always say, each player is unique, and what is "right" for some is not always right for all. I'm actually moving my first finger back and forth from A to D string but yeah, you could use one finger and fret them both. Whatever works for your style.
@carawon Also a good question. The "technique" here is the alternate picking itself. It's just up stroke, down stroke, repeat. That's all there is. It just sounds more complicated when played at warp speed ;)
man todd u kick rear lol... appreciate all ur lessons n effort... once i become an infamous guitarist ill make sure ur name is heard all around the world ;p u deserve all the credit master. todd :D thanks again and stay good :) *thumbs up*
@Frshmachine Thanks! I've got a great slate of lessons planned for 2010. Also working lessons for some other web sites. Best of luck in your guitar journey!
Anyway thats the exact same Pattern i try to get down since 2 days. I sometimes caugh myself cheating with the alternate picking because i hate outside picking.... bad me i know.

is there some type of pattern to the really fast alternate picking? or is it just random picking as fast as you can?

try adding 14th fret A after going down to 12th fret E, it gives the part a bit more of a "Crazy" sound.
