in the first years o production, dacia used only french parts. just asemblimg them together in romania. the 1.3 engine was identical in both cars. only the gordini was more powerful. unfortunately, after a few years, dacia started to "improve" the original design. as a result, the only dacias that are still in good condition are those made before 1980(but not so many)and those made after (lets say) 1998.

some old people still have all original (even paint) with renault parts '70is dacia with less than 100.000 km on the clock.

those from the '80s till mid 90's are rubbish.

the bottom line is that dacia paied for the design and technology so it is not a copy. copies are all those chinese cars that have no licence.

dacia 1100 was launched in '68. it was produced only a couple of years.

the 1300 prod started in 1969.

the production was supervised by french engineer a few years. for those times it was the today's golf, astra or focus.

dudes...I am from romania......the dacia 1300 is a "copy"...it is a car built under the renault license...in the first years the 12 and 1300 where identical exept for the badge..because all the parts where brought in the country from france and the cars where built here...then the romanians started to buid their own parts after a few years...

Both the Renault 12 AND Dacia 1300 were both launched in 1968! Dacias had slightly different engines (lower-spec) and were built in Romania under Renault license, so there ARE NOT COPIES!

Renault did 40 years ago what most manufacturers do today: sell the same car under different names on different markets.

So please, do a search on Wikipedia before making false statements like who build it first and which car copies which!

@germanflavio You could speak english, but I think I know what you mean. Dacia is not a copy, but yes, the R12 is the original. The model, [R12] was BOUGHT from Renault, or Renault bought Dacia factory and in Romania they builded Dacia. They are the same cars. :). I'm romanian and i love the R12/1300

r12 is not equal with dacia 1310....it has the same structure but the engine is much better then dacia ;)
