This is from The Tonight Show With Jay Leno, dated May 4, 2001. The band was John Blackwell-drums, Rhonda Smith-bass, Mike Scott-rhythm guitar, Najee-Tenor Sax and Flute, Morris Hayes-organ and keyboards and Kirk Johnson-bongos.
I've been to Prince concert 3 times back in the days and failed about 7 times. His concerts are sooooo worth more than the ticket prices. He made sure he gives the best performance he could. Once I saw him using a customized cane to perform because he injured his leg. He did some simple tricks with the cane while performing. There you go, true Artist.
@bborda4life1 How did this inspire that song?? I don't know how it could the lyrics are about totally different things and it's not the music cos none of it sounds alike. Unless he's said this but I can't find any info that he did. Maybe another song on his album but not She Lives In My Lap.
@AnnoyingPunkNextDoor It did inspire "She Lives In My Lap". Not because Andre 3000 said it, per se, but because "SLIML" sounds just like "TBODP". Prince fans should be cognizant of this. For starters, the first line of "SLIML" smacks of the influence of the first line of "TBODP". Not to mention similarities in the sonic idiosyncracies of both tracks. "She Lives In My Lap" also pays homage to another Prince track that is similarly titled: "She's Always In My Hair". That was surely no coincidence.
@TMBuxton OH MY GOODNESS!!! That is what I said the first time I bought speakerboxxx/love below! I thought a lot of songs were Prince reminiscent from Andre Benjamin and I love him for it. Hey Ya, Prototype definitely had a Prince vibe. It's not often you hear an artist that can do music that is clearly Prince inspired b/c it quickly sounds copycat, but he did a good job, not to mention Andre is a bit eccentric on his own
@babyEroose I'm glad I'm not the only to have noticed! And yes, it's not often you hear songs that are clearly Prince inspired because it's then immediately apparent that it's a rip-off production. But even in "She Lives In My Lap", you can still hear that OutKast vibe shining through. Good ears, Eroose!
I don't know which version i like better this or the original!!! Either way they both are the shit....love Prince!! I still have all my posters(all 245 of em), all albums and 45's (telling my age), and concert pictures!!!
Think this was a lovesexy after show Roseland Ballroom, New York
