Marlena would tell you that she wanted to go to america any way.She wanted to be an international star.Remember after the war Brigitte Horney went to the united states for a while.Possibly to get away from memories of what the nazis done beside opening her mothers psychiatric clinic. Karen Horney
it's very nice to hear Oscar Denes sing this original version! I have the Columbia London recording in English with Denes and Barbara Diu. The orchestra for the recording is the Debroy Somers Band with a different much more crazy orchestration. Crazy is the only word for it. Nice-crazy!
I hate the Nazis for the great harm they caused to German culture. We lost legendary artists like Marlene Dietrich, Douglas Sirk, Peter Lorre etc. not to mention composers like Abraham, Jurman, Kalman... Thank God, their memory is preserved!
Sadly jewish coposer Paul Abraham had to flead the nazis pennieles, to USA where he died in an assylium. so the singer and the composer perished in WWII
Wikipedia tells us that Abraham died in Hamburg on 6 May 1960. See my liner note in the new Tauber CD from Dutton 'Pardon, Madame'. When Viktoria und ihr Husar transferred to London in 1932, Oscar Denes was still in the cast, but Lizzi was replaced by Barbara Diu - they recorded the comedy duets in English for Columbia - their 'Mausi' is even more manic than the German version.

this is a very nice treat. What I was actually looking for was a Cold War era rock'n'roll song by the same title, but I found this, and do like it

@SwingBernie
Und - was willst du damit sagen?
