I was part of the crew that made those frogs. We did it at a warehouse in Camarillo, CA. Funny thing is the warehouse manufactured sex toys. They porn stars would go there to have their "parts" cast molded. If you have ever heard of the "Flesh Light" they are the inventors of it. Lol
Is it or just me or did anyone else find it hilarious when they're carrying all of the dead dogs out of the house because of the frogs? I must be a sick fuck.
I hate this movie. It's three hours of my life I won't get back. And I find it amusing that everyone who thinks it's a masterpiece has to give such complicated formulas as to why they think so.
@Drac39 Glad you say you wasted 3 hours of your life watching it, then decided to waste another 4 minutes watching a scene from it again on Youtube.....Now thats a complicated formula dude.
Magnolia is one of the greatest movies made in the 90's.
The Plague of the Frogs (Book of Exodus, Chapter 7, Verses 1-4) is one of the 10 plagues Yahweh (God) imposed upon the Pharaoh of Egypt to let the Israelite slaves go free.
Whether it was in biblical times as Yahweh taught, or in modern times as Andersen's film showed and Aimee Mann so perfectly sung:
Movie producers must've read the bible... in the book of exodus frogs did rain in the land of egypt and there was a reason behind it... wonder wats the reason why frogs rained in this film.. i hope the concept isnt wrong...
Frogs have rained periodically throughout history, but the frogs are never this large. Think closer to the size of your pinky fingernail and you'd be in the ballpark. Still, as movie scenes go, this is pretty epic.
@Wil14 They have. Look it up. One possible explanation is that a tornado sucked up the content of a a shallow pond and the frogs fell back down to earth in another spot like a town.
One of my favorite lines in Magnolia is at the end of this scene..."I've got so much love to give- I just don't know where to put it!' It breaks my heart everytime.
@Zoza15 You asked "how come this is in someone's mind?" By that I presume you mean the raining frogs. It's happened a few times. If I presumed wrong, then whatever.
@Zoza15 First off frogs falling from the sky actually isn't some random event that a sicko thought up, it's happened before. And also it was written in the bible. So I'm not really sure what you're asking.
@flashbeak "What are the chances that all of these people, all living off Magnolia Boulevard, all using the same day to reconcile or contemplate their existence, are tied together by one of the rarest occurrences possible? "
@flashbeak "What are the chances that all of these people, all living off Magnolia Boulevard, all using the same day to reconcile or contemplate their existence, are tied together by one of the rarest occurrences possible?"
1 that scared the crap out of me 2 great film, did it win an oscar cause it certainly deserved it. 3 do frogs actually rain from the sky and if so is there this many of them. 4 when claudia smiled at the end it scared the crap out of me and did that sybolize the blossoming of a flower i.e magnolia.
Beautiful movie...You may never see one as brilliant as this again...Falling of frogs and other strange items is a fairly common occourance...But, I believe the director was refering to one of the nine plagues in Exodus.
i love how its a serious realistic drama up till this point. I love PT anderson but this movie was a little to long, all it was was suspense and building up to nothing. I think this scene made the film much better though.
He is the only one that doesn't have an addiction, personality disorder or life of mistakes.
It's basically his father that is the twisted one in his life.
So he is the only one that doesn't have to be freaked out of the frogs (which is a metaphor of the pain in your life), because he doesn't have to lie to himself like the other people do.
Didn't they realize how fucking stupid this whole movie was? "Respect the cock" and frogs raining for no reason was all I got from it. There's no message, there's no talent in the movie, and it's just another faux-psychological film that gets morons thinking. This movie is utter shit.
It has and does happen and it does involve tornados or cyclones, but I think only frog eggs - pre-tadpoles - are swept up, and are carried by storms to any part of the world and while they're being carried they actually hatch in the upper atmosphere before coming down like this. But I don't think they'd have grown as large as shown here.
At the begining is show several times the number 82, i am sure everybody notice that. And is showen in so many ways....Then is 2 times "Exodus 8:2" first at the begining of the quitz and 2nd before frogs fall.Maybe are some other times. !st is in public wrote, 2nd is i the street. And if you look at exodus 8:2 is : "And if thou refuse to let them go, behold, I will smite all thy borders with frogs:" This is all about the frogs....But!!
when you watch the movie, you know the characters are connected, mostly by their relationships with others. in fact they are strikingly similar, and many of their paths cross. chance?
and what way to emphasize these uncanny connections between the characters than a natural disaster that affects all of them. and what are the chances of that disaster being frogs raining from the sky? chance. coincidence.
i really watched the wovie. and i love it. its a good explanation but its hard to get. u know, is it the bible? is it the fucking lake? but and the end, its a fuckin awesome movie man. i hate tom cruise, but this shit is some damn good acting
Well, there was a lake in Magnolia where frogs went to lay eggs. One day, the sun evaporated the water and all the micro eggs. When it rained, apperantly frogs came down with it.
There are stories of coincidence and chance, of intersections and strange things told, and which is which and who only knows? And we generally say, "Well, if that was in a movie, I wouldn't believe it." Someone's so-and-so met someone else's so-and-so and so on. And it is in the humble opinion of this narrator that strange things happen all the time. And so it goes, and so it goes. And the book says, "We may be through with the past, but the past ain't through with us."
I just read Roger Ebert's NEW review of Magnolia, which he added to his "great movie" list. He went back and watched it AGAIN and did a whle new review and noticed things he didn't notice the first time and loves it even more. This really is a film that grows on you. The first time I watched it, I liked it and felt something special. The next time, I loved it. It's an absolutely beautiful picture and makes so much sense at the end, that the experience is beyond words.
I was so surprised and amazed that THIS is what happens to all these people at the end of this movie - and it's done so well - that it made me cry. I suppose that doesn't make much sense!
Exodus 8:2 reads: "And if thou refuse to let them go, behold, I will smite all thy borders with frogs".
SPOILER: Paul Thomas Anderson has said that he was unaware that the story of frogs falling from the sky is in the Bible (he took it from Charles Fort's writing) when he wrote the screenplay. The Bible story of the plague of frogs was brought to his attention by Henry Gibson prior to filming.
Watch it a couple more times, and it'll hit you. This is hands-down the most perfect piece of film-making I have ever seen. The whole entire movie, from beginning to end. . . perfect. PT Anderson, all your stress through making 'Magnolia' does not go unappreciated! Ive seen a documentary why Frogs are falling, this is not only the case with frogs, But also with Fish..
Its of the cause of a strong tornado that suck the amount of water with fish..
And it gets mixed in the air, and when the tornado dust off, then the fish or either the frogs will fall outta the sky. :)
