@hike108 He follows the "Channel Swimming Association" Regulations. I guess to qualify as an actual Swim. The Association only allows for him to wear a Swimsuit, Goggles, Ear Plugs, a Nose clip and a cap to count for his immersion in water. Pretty amazing ain't it.
I've just heard of Lewis Pugh's work & learned something about life listening to his recent debut on Cnn. The thing I can relate to is stepping out of deeply ingrained habits and changing mindsets by degree. – Instead of doing this from a purely physical approach by a determination of the mind, I'd like to introduce something first that should be the main focus.
I'm sure the human mind works like a computer that needs upgrades & even reprogramming entirely & also I've seen the Spirit working supernaturally through my mind & heart to assist the mind & heart to work even better. Jesus in me can assist to give me the wisdom to make the impossible possible! To me there is no other way to solve a problem betterthatn being spirit filled. Try it: Google Activated Magazine
Tactically Green all the way! As a former Marine, I agree with his position on the environment, especially after watching his TEDtalk presentation on the Everest swim. Semper Fi
Great stuff - but the problem with Lewis Gordon Pugh is that he claims to be one of the world great swimmers and he is really nothing special at all. Wim Hoff is the iceman and can kick Mr Pughs arse into the middle of next week - Wim hoff has been in an ice bath fro 1hr 44 mins and run a marathon in shorts at -20 degrees. Martin Strel risked his life swimming the Amazon and Yangtze river whilst gordon claims to be a superhero for swimming in the Thames.
yeah, pugh is amazing - to sympathize with the shrinkage of the polar ice caps he wears tiny speedos to demonstrate the shrinkage of his bulge for all the world to see!
@blackandwhitebuffy have some respect for the man and what he has achieved for himself and environmental awareness rather than the size of his manhood.
Strange, I've also had the pleasure of meeting him (coffee not beer) and agree he's an inspiration and a very nice guy but the LEAST down to earth person I've ever met.......... I walked away thinking 'that's what it must have been like to meet Jesus!' (and I'm not even religious?!)
oh. my. god. i watched a presentation by him and i just assumed he did it in a wetsuit, then he showed this video and i was like, ffuuuuccckkkk. this guy is crazy!
Isn't it time that 'reality' program makers took notice of this truelly remarkable man and his message rather than producing drivel about the likes of Peter Andre and Katie Price? Only we can make them!!
great swim..but as i remember, the North pole was completely solid even at the warmest time - summer. Where did you find such a large amount of open waters? what did you think of the Yamal?
i had the oppertunity today to meet M Pugh...and wll pheww!.....what and inspirational man.....do your bit to save the environment and them polar bears;-)
Evolutionary biologist and paleozoologist Susan Crockford, of Canadas University of Victoria, points out that polar bears have historically thrived when temperatures were warmer than todays — during the medieval warming 1,000 years ago and during the Holocene Climate Optimum 5,000 to 9,000 years ago.
However, it is our Earth still warming up since it's last ice age. It's a celestial event. Sure humans are contributing, but don't let the media convince you that it's all your fault. Our Earth has survived through asteroid impacts, ice ages, solar winds, magnetic pole reversals, earthquakes, etc. I have no doubt that it can survive through the era of human life with pollution to its atmosphere and some pieces of plastic.
Hello pleople!!! Temperatures everywhere are rising! The water levels are rising! Rare animals are becpming extinct! What more proof do you want, people!? It's a matter of comum sense!!! If you can't attatch these small simple facts together to obtain the real answer, then you people are dumbasses!!!
The global warming theory is going into the freezer, some climate experts say. The first half of this year was the coolest in at least five years, according to the World Meteorological Organization (WMO). And the global warming that has taken place during the past 30 years is over, says geologist Don J. Easterbrook, a professor emeritus at Western Washington University.
2nd: Even so, you didn't need to insult the guy in the first place. The man believes in a cause and is willing to fight for it, an act of major respect, either you aprove it or not. Maybe we can end this argue by having you pure and simple say "i'm sorry"
Oh....and Lewis wasn't able to get anywhere in his kayak, it was too cold and there was too much ice!! He was literally freezing his arse off....he said he could not feel his butt when he got back to the ship, which, by the was was powered by fossil fuel....LOL
Data from the National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC) has indicated a dramatic increase in sea ice extent in the Arctic regions. The growth over the past year covers an area of 700,000 square kilometers: an amount twice the size the nation of Germany.
Honestly....ignorant people like Lewis inadvertantly do so much more harm than good, man-made global warming is a farse and will soon be exposed as such, polar ice is NOT disappearing and the ploar bears are certainly not in danger....what a joke!!
The only ignorant around here is YOU!!! It's a SCIENTIFIC FACT that the global temperatures are raising. If you are too stupid to understand that, it's you problem, not everyone else's!
"Lewis showed the world that climate change is happening and we have the power to stop it." - Very impressive film, & he sure proves that c change is happening; but how does that prove we can stop it? Swimming won't do a damned thing, I'm afraid.
If folk are so concerned about the extinction of Polar Bears, wouldn't it be a great help to them if you didn't plough through their home in huge ships to do a pointless swim in the North Pole to prove what a big man you are? Go swim in an outdoor pool in December if you want to feel fresh!
Sad that it is TOO HOT at the North Pole...only polar bears should swim between the ice -- not people! Great effort to highlight our melting ice caps.
big job!!!
