  • Dear Dr. Bill

I'm an Asian male, I used to have really bad acne but they are under control now, but it left me with a lot of redmarks and some scars. I even have some raise scars beneath my jawline. I just wondering If I could use the DOT therapy, because at this point. Im willing to do anything, please respond soon. Thanks so much

  • Dear Dr Bill,

I've been watching your video of the Smartxide procedure and I noticed that the Lady having the treatment didn't seem to be in any pain? I had it done after watching your video, but suffered tremendous pain!!! I nearly passed out!! Why is that? Should my Dr have turned the laser down a bit for me? I seem to be recovering very well, but am afraid of repeating the process. The Dr thinks I need 2 more treaments, 4 months apart. What do you think? should it have been painless?

  • We use a topical numbing cream for about 1 hour prior to treatment. This helps with the comfort. I would talk to you physician to find out if they can do that, or perhaps leave it on for a bit longer. I do agree with the 4 months apart treatment process though. When you understand collagen, the 4 months makes perfect sense. Here are a couple points: 1. it takes 4 weeks for the body to kickstart the collagen grown process. 2. we know that new collagen responds better to these procedures.

  • 3. at 4 months, you are giving your body enough time to regrow collagen, and let it mature enough to make a substantial difference with any follow up treatments.

  • Question:I had this procedure done 3 weeks ago for mild acne scarring on my cheeks(deep treatment) , my face is not red anymore, and I have not seen any results.Does it take a few months to see results, due to collagen rebuilding? Are you suppose to see results after your skin peels? Is this effective for acne scarring?I just hope I didn't waste money....

  • It takes the body about 4 weeks to start re-growing collagen. After the 4 weeks, it then will take about 6-9 months to mature. You should see an increased result over the next few months. Make sure you use plenty of moisturizer and post care products. Fractionated CO2 is a great procedure for acne scarring.

  • question: I had this procedure done exactly 2 months ago, and my skin still appears red with visible dot "track marks." Is this normal? How long before my skin texture will be smooth, and the color more natural-looking? Any comments would be greatly appreciated!

  • Usually you see the pink color if the treatment settings were done on a shallow, close dot series. You typically see this with pigment treatments. Did you use all of your post care products?

  • THANK YOU SO MUCH for you reply!

Yes, I used the post-care products religiously, as instructed. The redness is very, very gradually fading away, but am more worried about the visible dot-marks. After 2 months, I was thinking that these would have smoothed out by now?

  • Will it reduces the oiliness of the skin( Oily skin type) ?

  • Re: WhiteWarrior1314, Smartxide can help with the oily skin problem, but it wouldn't be my first choice. I would instead do near infrared laser (Aramis) and I would go buy a good quality oil-free moisturizer. Using it will naturally reduce the amount of oil you produce, and the laser will shrink the oil glands.

  • I see. Thank you so much doctor for your reply. ^^ But i have a sensitive and oily skin which acne still breakout and my acne scars is very severe and i also have a raise scar which i think was hyperstrophic scar on my right cheek..*sigh*

  • evealexsis, I would not recommend using SmartXide Dot on darker skin types at this time. The best option for darker skin types would be the Fraxel Re:store. It's more treatments though...about 4.

  • Dr.J, Is olive skin considered dark skin type? I am of east indian origin, have acne scarring and need something aggressive that works.

Am considering a consultation at your clinic.

    Thanks.

  • Good question. You would need to do a Fitzpatrick Scale skin analysis to find out if you can do the SmartXide Dot. It will tell us what skin type you have. If it ends up being too dark, then Fraxel Re:store will be your option. It works well on acne scars...it just takes more treatments. That being said, both technologies will need extra passes to get stubborn or deep scars.

  • this is not for asian skin? Because my doctor recommended this for me DOT therapy i think it's the same thing? Anyway I have mild to moderate acne scarring the other one he recommended was cool breeze i don't know what if there is another term for that kind of laser? It's key laser institute.

  • DOT Therapy is another name for SmartXide Dot Therapy. Asian skin is right in the middle of a yes/no for treatment. The best way to be sure is to take a Fitzpatrick skin test prior to treatment. This can be done at the doctor's practice. If you score low enough, DOT therapy will be ok. If you score too high, you may want to look into Fraxel Restore or Fraxel Dual. DOT will be the stronger laser procedure, and also only 1 treatment.

  • im getting this done for my acne scars tomorrow, they are doing it for free because my derm wants to test it to figure out if its worth purchasing, im hoping it helps out my scars and doesnt cause more dmg

  • dooes this work on black skin though? Mines a caramel colour.

  • Fractionated CO2 laser is very good at removing acne scarring. It does take a few treatments, even though the laser is very strong. Every treatment shows significant reduction in the scar. Expect deep scars to take about 3-4 zaps.

  • Is co2 the most effective to cure acne scaring? Is it suitable for all kinds of acne scaring?

  • can this get rid of stretch marks?

like not just fade them to where its all silvery and blah?

cuz i want my skin to be level and normal looking, not have little silver indents

please reply and let me know

  • How well does this work for acne scaring?

Is active fx a better option?

  • Comment removed

  • I have had 5 treatments on my scars and it works really well, but frankly with Acne Scars the power level shown here won´t work, you will see good results only at nearly the maximum power! and it really hurts for a few hours and looks rather bad, but you'll be Ok in 4 or five days. Acne scars will NEVER go away completely but the difference is very significant.

  • How well does this work for acne scaring?

  • Typically, you will see a big difference in one treatment, but you need to plan to come back for touch up zaps about 2-3 more times to get really good results on the marks. Same with Acne Scars.

  • It can fill in indented skin in the form of wrinkles or minimal nasal labial folds. If you are wanting to restore areas where you have lost fat or areas where there has been substantial loss of skin elasticity, then other technologies would be better. ex. fat transfer, fillers, Thermage. Stretch marks are caused by fractured collagen, and are very hard to fix. SmartXide Dot Therapy will actually vaporize the damaged skin and promote new collagen and skin growth.

  • does it fill in indented skin and does it make the stretch marks flat?

  • How deep into the skin does it go? Can you treat deeper wrinles?

  • I just got it 6 hours ago, im very red right now, lets see what the future looks like. I mostly did it coz of my acne scars around my cheeks, take care wish me look

  • how did it turn out?

  • This is fractionated CO2 laser which is used for wrinkle reduction, pigmentation removal, acne scars, stretch marks, and sun damage. It can be used on Asian skin. Typically it takes 1 treatment and the downtime is very minimal. About 2-3 days of redness and peeling.

  • Amazing! to see the before and after pictures. Great Job, loved the video, If more people saw this video at how calm, fast and low down time this treatment is I think more & more people would want that fast change in this fountain of Youth! I guess i still thought of stuff like this as taking a year off just to get the redness, etc healed, My future is looking better hehe : ) Is this one of the things you told me about?

  • what is this?

  • is it safe to use on asian skin?
