Im a Southerner from Missouri and the words mid-west make me cringe, its as if yankees are hijacking our states identity... tell me where else in the midwest do you have "The Ozarks"? nowhere only other place is Arkansas(my roots) my whole family is from the Bootheel and thats as Southern as you can get. I love my state, MO 12th Confederate State..

The most recent consensus among Oklahomans indicated that the vast majority of the state identifies with the Midwest and has a white population that is over 70% German-American, which is the white ethnic identity of the Midwest/Heartland. The state of Oklahoma does not belong on this map and does not value your region's culture and identity down south. Thanks!

@edelweissnpa OK was founded as an Indian territory and the Indian tribes (who still make up a decent part of the population) sided with the South. They fought in many battles against the Union invaders & the last CSA general to surrender was Stand Watie, a Cherokee Indian. I hear from many folks from Oklahoma who are Southern, proud of their Confederate roots and reject the US empire. So, maybe you embrace this "midwestern" identity but many of the folks of OK embrace their Southern identity.

@RedShirtArmy Oklahoma's Indian population is roughly 8% and declining faster than any other community within the state. Also, over 80% of the non-Indian white population of Oklahoma is of Germanic and Czech-Slavic ancestry, which simply isn't compatible with southern culture or identity whatsoever. Missouri and Oklahoma should not be on the map or included in the discussion. Also, I prefer the European socialism and the attractive women who practice it over the overweight redneck trash.

@edelweissnpa My own ancestry (and my family has been in SC since the early 1700s) is half German. So don't preach to me how Germans can't be Southern. Most Southerners are not Germans but many are.

As for you preference for economic tyranny, so be it. Perhaps you should move to Sweden, where they are attempting to move away from socialism towards more economic freedom.

Since the South still basically controls who will be president, and tilts Congress and the Senate, isn't it better now? Look around you, Having basically a monarchistic government with an elected king every 4 years who is basically all powerful now is the problem. Bush going into iraq and starting an international war without congressional approval ended the last notions of restraint on the presidents power. Congress just goes along with whatever he wants. In North Alabam we got whole towns of purely hispanics. I walk into Wal-Mart in Albertville, AL and I'm bout the only one that can speak a lick of English in the whole place. I have a dear friend in northern Alabama and she's a Dixie as they get. But she's no redneck and a truer Southern WOMAN in the best sense of the word you will be hard to find. She says the same things you do too, but now's not the time to think secession, now's the time to absorb people INTO the Southern culture and show them that Fearing God above all is the best contraception there is. That is the kind of Southron you need and the kind that benefits all the United States. God bless.

@RiverBirch1967 People don't understand what a nation is. We have no concept of stability. It is not evil to want a stable nation (as in state). Mexicans have their own country a lot of them if you look at their states as such. I don't care about legal immigration but you can't expect to maintain a stable society if everybody and their brother continually waltzes over. Arizona is making the right move in finally getting legislation passed to get this under control.
