Blast NBC for destroying eps of so many great game shows. Thank God for the folks who upload eps and clips here, if it weren't for them people like me would never be able to appreciate these game shows.
This theme was also used in The Classic NFL Films Super Bowl Highlights when the Steelers Won both Super Bowl IX against The Vikings (1974 Season) and Super Bowl X (1975 Season) against The Cowboys. I used to watch those classic Highlights shows all the time on ESPN.
It is a beautyful song, I know it was used for This Week in Baseball but it is so damn pretty all I can imagine is being at Disney World watching princess's dance
Yeah they got lucky.....all I gotta say is blown call at first base. I was the saddest 12 year old ever that summer. I cried for I don't know how long.
I remember always hearing this piece on NFL films super memories of the super memories of the super bowls. their SB highlight show of the late 1970's. I always thought this was the work of the great nfl films composer, sam spence. Real nice work by mike vickers.
The closing theme showing Dave Parker in an all star game throwing to Gary Carter all the way from right field and gunning somebody out at the plate - that was just awesome!!
Thanks for that info, braves15. I never knew who that was that Parker had gunned out at the plate. I know Brian Downing from watching the Angels play but never knew that was him being thrown out at the plate. Love that play!
God, this song reminds me of This Week In Baseball and all the events of my youth during that time. The most memorable part of the closing credits for me was Robin Yount's swing.
does anyone have the VIDEO of the TWIB closing credits?? this is the greatest theme music of all time.. just a little weird seeing a old gameshow in the background instead of tony gwynn and carlton fisk.
TWIB! I remember seeing Rickey Henderson sliding head first into third base in slow-motion, wearing the flashy green n yellow A's uniform. Still gives me goosebumps!
That's a good memory. I remember seeing centerfielder Chet Lemon of the Detroit Tigers reach over the fence against the California Angels in the Angels' stadium and take away a home run.
You must be a tiger fan 'cause that catch is etched into the 'glorious only' memory department of all who enjoyed that squad.
As i remember his lower back contacts the upper part of the fence which flexes.Wasn't there some sort of fist pump (must of been the 3rd out) on the way back to the dugout? Thank you.
I do vaguely recall a fist pump from Chet. I got Chet's autograph in 1984 at Lakeland. He was a quiet guy that day with the fans, but very polite and very nice.
you are right "Jackpot" used the opening theme for TWIB, this is the closing. And, videoholic just posted an ABC News broadcast from that era, which uses this theme..
Brings back the memories of watching TWIB as a young baseball fan. Full of energy! Reminds me of Fisk going yard in the 12th at Fenway in that great 75 series. Thanks for the post!
It sounds like this music works okay on Jackpot! Very sophistaicated for a show taped in New York City & a tough riddle game. A little orchestra involved in a theme like this should make a game pretty classy & belongs on an "Upper Class" game; not sure if that fits for the 70's Jackpot! Leisure suits don't fit in with that theme. As for $50,000 a minute, I can't really imagine that theme fitting in with someone winning the $50,000. This theme needed another game show besides these. 3 stars.
I was on "Jackpot!". We filmed all five episodes on a Saturday in late December 1974. They were aired the fist week of January 1975. I was very young then...enjoyed the game so much! I am sure this was not the theme song though. I DO remember Geoff Edwards well. :-)
This is actually the theme for the 1985 game show "$50,000 a Minute", which is an unsold pilot. Geoff Edwards was the host with Meredith MacRae as his co-host, with Jack Clark as the announcer.
As a kid I used to love this song at the end of TWIB. Watching all the great catches and plays. I used to imagine myself making those same great catches! Great song thanks for putting it up here!
BUMMER! I accidently removed that person's comments! Forgive me! I meant to hit reply than remove for I wanted to ask that person a question (Please whoever this was, please reply again). My goof up.
This theme brings back so many memories from my childhood. Of course, it wasn't Jackpot! that I was watching, but This Week in Baseball. Thanks for posting it!
i forgot to mention that ktew channel two or newscenter two is an nbc affiliate. these days now ktew is kjrh channel two an nbc affiliate out of tulsa,ok.
i remember this song. it was the old theme song from ktew channel two better known as newscenter two tulsa, ok. with dean lewis cheif meterologist gary shore and sports director jerry webber.
Theme was also used on ABC's World News Tonight back in the early to mid 1970s when Harry Reasoner and Howard K. Smith were co-anchors (1970-76) before the infamous Reasoner/Barbara Walters team up in late '76.
You are correct, but just for clarification, the broadcast was not yet known as World News Tonight. "Gathering crowds" was used for short time in 1975 and 76 when Reasoner was made sole anchor after the pairing with Smith and before they saddled him with Walters. The broadcast was simply known at the time as "ABC NEWS" I would love to see some postings from that era, but I'm sure they are hard to come by. WNT would be created in 1978 with the theme that is still used in a variation today
This theme just heard here was used on the later episodes of the '70s "Jackpot." Prior to that, they used "Jet Set." BTW, the theme played here is also used on "This Week in Baseball" back then, too.
I know. I decided to use this theme for this video for "Gathering Crowds" has more of a dramatic feel, but I always loved this theme song. And yes, "Jet Set" was the original theme to 'Jackpot!'.
