@lavendergirl63 It's terrible that it burned. It would have made a lovely museum for music or movies. I wish Olivia would have bought it and saved it. I would have!
I thought I was the only NUT about this movie!!! I'm glad to see some others have taste also LOL where the hell did the comic version come from.? Come on folks we have to start a revival make all these theaters start playing Xanadu it will be bigger than Rocky Horror!!
@beatlemyn yeah i was born in 78 so i was a baby when it came out but my aunt loves this movie and i used to watch it all the time as a child growing up!!! i dont understand how anyone could not LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS
My boss told me that when he was a kid, he had a friend with a Xanadu album that *didn't* have the ELO songs separated on one side, and the ONJ songs on the other side...the track sequence was totally different. I've never been able to find such a thing on E-bay, were the first pressings of the album different? (This was in the US by the way.)
The only thing I can guess is that it was a foreign release, or perhaps a DJ promo. I purchased the US LP as soon as it was released, and the sides were separated into ONJ (burgundy side), and ELO (blue side). As time went on, the original artwork on the record press became the standard MCA rainbow look, with the movie logo at the top. The first three US singles "Magic", "I'm Alive" and "All Over The World" also had the colored record presses. "Suddenly" and "Xanadu" did not.
Loved it! brought back memories! Especially loved the ELO part of the song Drum Dreams, I have been searching for this song on a CD or dig download. But no luck! I remember it was on the flip side of a 45, it was either "I'm Alive" or "All Over the World". Anyone know if this is out there anywhere? I mean on cd?
Must mention how beautiful Olivia looked in this movie! Love her 4ever!!!
I just love this song and how she sings it. I keep hounding for a dance remix album, but it would also be great if she did a retro album akin to Linda Ronstadt with "Round Midnight," which became an instant classic. Olivia's voice is is so crystal clear, and now with some years behind it, I bet that kind of venture would be perfect for her. Hopefully, I will see it available someday...but meanwhile I will love this post and others by TRUE Olivia fans. Thank you for sharing.
The magic between Olivia and John in Grease wasn't there in Xanadu. Remember, Grease got bad reviews, too. That didn't stop it's worldwide success. Xanadu would have done that had it not been for her unbelievable love affair with an ugly artist.
I've Xanadu many times and other than it is now a dated movie, the only thing bad about the movie is the male lead actor. He couldn't act his way out of a cracker jack box, not to forget to mention that he had nothing on John Travolta. Olivia really needed a goodlooking matchup. This guy was hidious!
XANADU deserved a better showing at the box office but too manny bad reviews hurt its box office profits. OLIVIA was wonderful in it as she always is.
xanadu would be a good film if they reedited the ending, the stupid multiple dance scenes are BORING and stupid, oh well, livy is cute and ELO are music gods so that makes it worth watching the movie : )
¡¡Muchas gracias!!.
Great parade of memorabilia from one of my very favorite movies! Love the rare B-side accompaniment too. What a treat! I have the Marvel comic book too. I cherish it!!! Thanks for posting. :-)
There was a Marvel comic book released at the time of the movie in August 1980. It was pretty cool, they turn up on eBay sometimes. I bought mine in 1980.
Great video. I rememeber watching the Making of Xanadu special...it was before VCR's were common (yes I'm old I guess) but I couldn't wait to see. Love this movie! Do hope they release some of the extras! Thanks again.
NostalgiaBob, you would give us a prcious present if you could make available those CD versions of the B sides through Limewire or any P2P sharing file system. Please pretty please...
The best version ever, I've been searchibg 4 this for 20 years , Thanks!

It's so very sad that the building where Xanada was filmed, The Pan Pacific Auditorium" burned down to the ground in 1989.

Great montage! At 1:41 you can see her husband Matt Latanzi who was a backup dancer in the film. Behind her on her right. Our left.

He probably had the 8-track tape version, which - to the best of my rememberance - was sequenced in that way.
texs2007 3 years ago
@RaggedTiger70 My 8-track separates the artists, and it also flips over during "Don't Walk Away," which always annoyed me!!

Great Post! By the way, Xanadu is a cult classic...so I think no editing is in order at all...the quirkiness makes the film.
