If a hotel has a swimming pool beware of catching athletes foot from any shower or tub in the place. Take along a can of athletes foot spray and spray the tub or shower before you use it. I also wipe things down with antimicrobial wipes such as door knobs and fixtures. Bedspreads can be very nasty. Sheets usually are washed and if they smell like bleach it is a good sign.

Speaking from experience hotel beds are never really clean. I have worked at two hotels and I can tell you right now the blankets are never changed during do outs. I don't know what the average persons standard of cleanliness is but I refuse to sleep in someone elses hair and skin. Also,at the other hotel we never changed pillowcases unless they were dirty. And if the comforter had blood or other stains we simply flipped it over. I wish I was making this up but its common practice

@LibBasher I work in a hotel and i know that some of the people who work with me don't always change the sheets and don't stick to proper hygenic standards. It absolutely disgusts me. Every room that anybody has stayed in needs to be properly and hygenically cleaned, changing the bedsheets is standard procedure. Using the cloths properly and rinsing cloths out as often as possible is the best way to ensure you are giving every single customer the standard of cleanliness they have paid for.

we were on vacation and checked into a hotel in Georgia and my husband always checks the beds before we unpack or even take off our shoes and sure enough the sheets were dirty they actually had hair on them i guess from the person who stayed there before us so we asked to be moved to another room and yes the sheets were dirty too we checked out and got our money back and we stayed at another hotel and it was clean u can ask to see the room before checking in just a little advice :)

The worst thing that I found out is that they dried the cups that you drink your tea/coffee/hot chocolate with the dirty towels from the previous guests! One of the girls used to vacum the sheets instead of changing them. You are measured on your productivity of how long it takes you to clean the rooms so some people would do anything to save time!

Take my advice people and clean the tub before you bathe in it and don't walk barefoot on the floor because if it doesn't look dirty they won't mop it.

Take off all the sheets and pour water on the bed spread and take off the pillow cases and throw everything in a heap on the floor.

Oh and make sure you always take a plastic pillow covering with you to put under the pillow case so your not breathing 100's of peoples germs.

When I worked at 'The Best Western' motel in Manteca,Ca. we were given 10 minutes to clean each room so to save time the maids would skip changing the sheets if they didn't look dirty or wrinkled.

They would also snack on anything they found in the fridge.

The bed spreads got laundered quarterly and they used window cleaner to clean the tub and the toilet because it's cheaper than Comet or Clorox.

Ususally there was a shortage of clean sheets and pillow cases so we had to skip using those.

Yes, it's disgusting but what can we do? It seems to me that if everyone made it a point to pull ALL the bedding off the bed and leave it in a pile before we checked out, it would help to at least get the sheets changed.
