@lindseydickey Try "Universal androot". This is what i used to root my wife's hero. It is an app that you install on your phone and then open it and run it. it can be found on xda developers or by searching google.

@lindseydickey depending on what software version you have you won't be able to root it. You will need to downgrade the software to stock 2.1 software number 2.27.651.6. When you do this you can use universal root to access superuser permissions.

I am so frustrated!! I have watched like 20 different videos and have been online for about 7 hours trying to figure this out. One has me download to my computer and use command prompt, something else wants me to download straight to my phone. some tell me i should know how to root my computer already. Does anyone have any help for me? I am not a brain with computers. I would even pay someone to have my phone and work, on it :P

Ok how exactly do you get this. i downloaded the cyganongen mod but do i just put it on the root of my phone and do a factory reset then do the update using update.zip?

@coltongolab put it on your sd card. then boot into recovery by powering off your phone, then power on by holding vol. down and power at the same time. Choose recovery and the choose install zip from sd card. everything else should be easy from there.

I've got this on my Hero and it's running slower than ever. Many force closures and freeze ups per day. If it weren't for that, I'd love it. I have to take this off and find a faster custom rom. I can't stand it anymore.

@Kozmo198 download cm6, then put in on your sd card. boot into recovery, and select install zip from sd and then choose zip from sd card, and then select the cm6 zip and select it with power button. use vol up and down to navigate and power to select.

@JustinDaMasterMind I take that back. I tried it on my friends hero and the nexus lwp does work on the newest nightly build, but you have to leave the settings as they are because once you change them, it will force close. digital rain and mario work also.

@Ganoosh2 It does run slower, but this is only the RC1 and the final build will probably be better (hopefully). whatever the case, Froyo on the Hero is better than Eclair, no? Thanks for the comment.

@AbuNoahSantana yeah it def does run way better on froyo,  i just dont' think the phone has enough power to ever be able to run live wallpaper all the time
