Having worked in law enforcement and worked with cops, this was completeley unnecessary. The suspect is in a pre-cuff position so he has been arrested before, complied with cop orders and that should have been the end of it. The cop would have absolutely no excuse if questioned by Internal Affairs as to why he punched the suspect. Cop has no business wearing a badge.

The police on Pensacola are almost as bad as the criminals. I am a middle aged white man who's never done anything wrong and I live in fear of them. I've lived here for over 20 years now and have seen a level of misconduct that would have to be seen to be believed.

The whole story is irrelevent. there was no threat, even if there had been a threat ten minutes prior. The cops actions are not justified. the suspect is innocent until proven guilty. the cop cant administer punishment at will.
this time he did. note in the video the officer said. "i got him running again". this means the kid had already committed a felony. what was the circumstance from the origional pursuit? what crime is he running from? without knowing this i cant determine if i am ok with this. if he is running because he beat his wife/girlfriend, then i have no problem with the officer hitting him, but if he ran for sumthing stupid, like a warrant, then he should have just hooked him up
Innocent till proven guilty. It doesnt matter what crime hes accused of. The officer is not judge, jury and executioner. The cop is way out of line and the suspect even had a right to defend himself from the cops assault, a right that has recently been upheld in the US supreme court.

Based upon the radio traffic relating that "he's running again" its reasonable to assume that this dude is a flight risk. I dont have a problem with the officer initally jumping on to the guy just in case he decided to "un-surrender" then fight or flee again. Especially since the officer is alone. The next reasonable action is to forcibly and quickly handcuff the suspect..striking him repeatedly like he did DOES seem to be excessive force.

Wow, is it really a wonder that the guy ran from the cops to begin with. I am a standup citizen and watching this video makes me scared. The guy surrendered, hand in the air, no threat to the officer. He ended up getting a WWF style knee to the ribs. Should have been fired immediately, put in prison, and never allowed in any public position again. The law applies more to officers not a free ticket to break the law. Protect and serve my ass, harrass and violate needs to be on the cars nowadays.

The police on Pensacola are almost as bad as the criminals. I am a middle aged white man who's never done anything wrong and I live in fear of them. I've lived here for over 20 years now and have seen a level of misconduct that would have to be seen to be believed.
If it is this scary for me then I can only imagine how it must be for those whom they really pick on: black folk.
I've been relatively lucky myself, so far. A few spread out minor things over the years but I know some folks....

@drpacecar Agreed. You see a lot of videos on Youtube of people claiming police abuse etc that are really cops doing their jobs in difficult situations. Not this one. This is excessive force, clear as day.
Cop should be fired and charged. I hope he was

No need to know what the boy did in the past or present,what needs to be known is why the boy did not get an apolgy and compensation from the Police dept, and the city? The officer should have been fired in .1 of a second and the jury had to be fraudulent! No normal group of people would come back with not guilty for that officer!

he didnt beat him. there is a difference from this and a beating. rodney king got his ass wooped but this kid just got a few taps. i want to know why he is running. everyone is quick to damn the officer without knowing anything about the situation. im not saying i agree with what the officer did, i just want to know the WHOLE story before i condemn and officers actions

The whole story is irrelevent. there was no threat, even if there had been a threat ten minutes prior. The cops actions are not justified. the suspect is innocent until proven guilty. the cop cant administer punishment at will.

Most of the time I root for the cops in these videos, but that kid did everything right. That man shouldn't be allowed to carry a badge.

this time he did. note in the video the officer said. "i got him running again". this means the kid had already committed a felony. what was the circumstance from the origional pursuit? what crime is he running from? without knowing this i cant determine if i am ok with this. if he is running because he beat his wife/girlfriend, then i have no problem with the officer hitting him, but if he ran for sumthing stupid, like a warrant, then he should have just hooked him up

Innocent till proven guilty. It doesnt matter what crime hes accused of. The officer is not judge, jury and executioner. The cop is way out of line and the suspect even had a right to defend himself from the cops assault, a right that has recently been upheld in the US supreme court.

because we dont know the whole story. from this perspective it does look a little rough, but what if he had just raped or killed a little kid? whould that change anything? i would like to know all the details of the case before determining whether or not it was justified

police are allowed more and more to use force as they please as long as they dont get caught on camera or stir up a big fuse they can whoop ass for no reason in case you couldn't figure it out... police state is a coming slowly and through incremental steps, people better stick together and go crazy on every single incident that involves anyone losing their rights, because one person loses their rights we all lose our rights wake up and stop w the excuses people stand up for each other

Based upon the radio traffic relating that "he's running again" its reasonable to assume that this dude is a flight risk. I dont have a problem with the officer initally jumping on to the guy just in case he decided to "un-surrender" then fight or flee again. Especially since the officer is alone. The next reasonable action is to forcibly and quickly handcuff the suspect..striking him repeatedly like he did DOES seem to be excessive force.

WOW this officer gives Police a bad rep.. I would like to know what the kid was wanted for.. It appeared from listening to the radio that he was running from the officer.. But once the suspect clearly gives up the officer should have took him into custody without punching and kicking the suspect.

I saw three reasons for termination of the DAC (Dumb Ass Cop)
1- Jumping on and punching the suspect
2- Doing it with his own video camera running
3- Listening to Boyz to Men, or was the Bell, Biv, Devoe? Either way, both are banned in the Redneck Republic!
