That's not the case. Before 1991, the East European economy was state controlled therefore no competitive products that could survive in the international market could be produced. Free economy is the only answer. Back 50 years ago, people in our country had nothing to eat and the military had rarely any weapons. As you see,the situation is now completely different. I think, all the issues aside, that Serbia joining the EU might be a good thing for the stability of the region. For example Northern Ireland has really only become stable due to the recognition that both North and South belonged to the EU. At least EU forces member states to clean up their systems; this is a good opportunity to dismantle the Milosevic era criminal network that now permeates all parts of Serbian life. EU membership promotes democratic reforms, control on government spending, control on inflation, westernization and modernization of industry... These are all things that Serbia needs. Are we supposed to forever look at Croatia and Slovenija as our Western successful neighbors? Can we not have prosperity also?

Got to be realistic man. Romania was a bit of a shithole even before the EU came along. Can't expect miracles to happen overnight. Before the EU I recall u guys blaming the USSR in the same manner. Maybe some honest self assessment is due. Serbia is far more comparable to, say, Czech Republic than to Romania or Bulgaria.

The former leaders didn' to do enough to establish a strong economy,that;s the problem. The former Eastern bloc countries had an inefficient state-controlled economy in the past and so there was no opportunity to develop a competitive industry. They might have produced things even at that time but those products were simply not competitive in the international market(cars being an example of this). There were benefits of entering the EU which were necessary.

That's not the case. Before 1991, the East European economy was state controlled therefore no competitive products that could survive in the international market could be produced. Free economy is the only answer. Back 50 years ago, people in our country had nothing to eat and the military had rarely any weapons. As you see,the situation is now completely different. We are small country and this is 21st century. Russia is 1500 km to the East. USA is 10,000 km to the west, and EU is 1 meter away. I travel 1hr in any direction, and I need a visa, so I choose EU if you ask me, but Serbia with kosovo in EU. If not, then fuck EU and their policies. Also, 90% of Serbs hate communism, so if you support Soviet bs, Serbs don't like that. Serbs like Christian Russia, not atheist.

You don't want to join the EU believe me, I live in London and millions of English people have left it now. Many of our jobs go to non-white immigrants and the children of immigrants - not to give them the jobs is racist after all. I'm Dutch and I'm sick of the EU. To much control is never a good thing. When WW3 comes (something many people won't accept) but the whole world is inevitably sliding towards a holocaust, and remember one thing, when that happens the survivors won't be those with huge bank accounts and leaders of the EU, but it'll be the ones with the strongest will and believe me you can't fuck with Serbian people's will. Not sure about that - India was part of the British Empire for 100ish years but India still seems to be full of Indians, simularly Nigeria seems to be lacking its white population...yet in 20-30 years of uncontrolled immigration England and London is full of non-white people and thats for good unless something dramatic happens. Not at all. My family have always had good jobs so have never left this country unless you are of the ilk that blames everyone for their nations crimes - the Saxons invaded the former Roman province of Britannia Superior and slaughtered Celts - is this my fault!? In fact I think I and all English (white) people like me should be thanked for offering a home to these people. We have been polite and tolerant but many of these immigrants and their children do not respect either us or my country.

Oh yes, but they choose their targets - my mother has been mugged three times by black people. This is what annoys me when some liberal who lives in Cornwall or the Czech Republic defends them when they know nothing of the problem they have caused - it would at least be fairer if these immigrants were spread around the country. We need human rights to protect Europeans - I've seen enough to know how valuable these are. The EU does not yet have any power to enforce human rights. These are in the so called Third Pillar and are non binding on the Member States. You are probably talking about your national laws. I know that England is an extremely enlightened country and am sure its liberal laws are easily abused by unenlightened people. I want Croatia to stay free of primitive scum - plenty here already as it is

I think, all the issues aside, that Serbia joining the EU might be a good thing for the stability of the region. For example Northern Ireland has really only become stable due to the recognition that both North and South belonged to the EU. Having Serbia as part of the EU could be a step towards Russia itself, eventually. Why not?

i am sorry to say that but the guy seems to be a bit out of touch. kosovo declared an independence, it's supported by the major european and NATO countries. so, it's a reality, nothing can change the fact. whatever number of unrecofnizing kosovo countries is in UN it doesn't really matter. US and Europe and NATO recognized kosovo and they will never back off. all applications to UN or UN court are just self-deceit. and kosovars got real chicky b/c they know US supports them 100%.
