I'm trying really hard to get into this, but comparing this version fo many others, the singers almost sound bord while singing this. They don't seem to have any emotions when they sing. They seem to only carry a tune, nothing special, really.

I'm confused :( The tone of this song is rejoicing and plaintive (it mentions the word 'mourn' but it's not a mournful song, more of a plea). I assume you meant the mood of the music, in which case I'm at a loss for words because to me, the music does not "ignore" any mournfulness or rejoicing (esp. the harmonies at 1:20+! Swoon!). Could you explain what you meant? I do agree that the song's been done better.
Maybe she believes the earth is older than 5.000 years. Perhaps she was born into a muslim, hindu, confucian, buddhist,... family. Maybe she is very spiritual regardless of religion. Maybe she read the dead sea scrolls... The list of why someone wouldn't be Christian is endless. Peace be with you.
I usually like Belle and Sebastian, but this is a really odd interpretation. The tone ignores the mournfulness/rejoicing faith of the original. The modern versions by Sufjan Stevens and Enya retain that, while still providing an interesting twist.
A beautiful version of my favourite Christmas carol.Anyone who doesn't have Christ in their lives shoud close their eyes and play this over and over again.
I don't have Christ in my life, but I love this version of a carol I adore. Is anything more annoying than smug people foisting their values on other people?
@buhbl Because it's a traditional Christmas hymn. Emmanuel is another name for Jesus. @jupitergrl was saying that she's not a Christian but she does like the song.
Favourite band + favourite time of year = bliss

The useless singer's flat, tuneless warbling has just converted me to Satanism........

I don't take issue with your conversion to Satanism, but to say that his voice was tuneless and flat was uncalled for.
Oh yeah, and Hail Satan.
