Bought a brand new KES-450A for my slim of EBay (£20).

Pain in the arse job but all back together and working great.

Couple of points:

You need a torx T8 security driver (does say in the video) make sure you have it before you start.

You also need to make sure the whole laser assembly is centred (closest to the spindle) before you button it all back up, otherwise it wont eject or accept disc's

@nbmufc94 i have a PS3 Slim 250 and i bought a KES-450A or KES-450ACA , both are the same except the 450A is sold by sony and its 200€ and the other one is the same thing but about 30-50€, it worked for me but you gotta know what you're doing!

@franbatista123 I've done it already, It was scary installing it at first but I managed to do it. I bought a replacement laser with the silver bracket already on it so installing it wasn't as complicated as this video.

The laser cost £25 ($40).

Maybe I'm stupid or something but I had to loosen one extra screw to remove the drive spindle motor. It's the screw right underneath the metal rod.

Hey, i dnt knowhats wrong withmy PS3 Slim but before ithasdirty lense i think then i vacuumed it and my CoD started to work but until 2day it was make dodgie noises with the CD and it also gets stuck in the Blue Ray andwhen u press the eject button it just makes thewierd noise again like the CD is trying to get out but its stuck. How much does it cost to buy a laser for a fat ps3 80gb 2 usb port? My laser isn't broken but the flat flex cable's end connecting my blu ray drive to the ps3 and sends the data is busted. That is connected to the chipboard (similar to 2:32) and that is connected to the laser right? Yep one small problem and it knocks down other dominos. Should've been more careful while taking mines apart. So can we just replace the cable holder itself or do we need to replace an entire chip board? Please help!

more than likely you would need to wipe or clean the lens, its worked for me for 10 years with the ps1

mrmoe: its the problem. it is ur bluray laser exactly. i have the same promlem what i did is i took my comsole apart and removed the disc drive (i did this cuz i know how to do it and plus my warranty was up two and a half months ago) took out the laser dock and im in the process of ordering a whole new dock instead of replacing jux the laser itelf as seen in the video... i matched the model number on the dock and boom i found it online for 45 bucks...

@LickityLarson Sounds like something stuck inside or something broken in the insert/eject mechanism. You'll need to get someone to open it up and take a look .

@LickityLarson I figured out what it is, you lost the gear that goes between the top half of the drive and the bottom. Its like a small cylinder that sits on a plastic spike on the left hand front of the drive. it drives the cogs at the top of the drive. I cant find a pic of it on google. but it looks like a white plastic cylinder with gears notches on both ends. It just sits loose on that spike then the top part goes ontop of it.

You know, this is why I never wanted a PS3.. I got one almsot a year ago and i used itfrom time to time but nothing like a hardcoregamer or movie watcher would... 3 days ago it stopped playing blu ray n reading my games... Ive whiped the harddrive to the default settings and I still ahve no luck although I canw atch DVD n burnt data discs I still cant play games.

I look at the receipt, my warrenty is up in 5 days... if UPS was even in my town, theyd never get it to sony in time.

I was not able to remove the spindle moter using your instructions. I push the metal rod up but there was just not enough clearance. I had to bend a tab at the other end of the rod and push the rod the other way first. Either that or mess around with the height adjustment screws but that is a bad idea. Thank for the video. My PS3 slim (120 GB) is not even a year old. When I put in a disc it sounds like a disc ejecting but doesn't eject until I hit the botton. The games won't even start up or load beacsue as soon as I put in the disc, it just makes the eject sound and never reads the game. I have tryed several brand new games, it didn't help. @awsomedude720 i had the same problem, not sure what the cause is, but it seems that a few of my disks, when put into the system, it will start to read the disk but after a few seconds make the noise like it wants to eject the disk, but the disk don't come out. Then if i hit the eject button it pops out the disk no prob.
