Because if you attack first, you'll get hit by a combo. I've seen people play killer instinct and ALMOST the whole round time would expire because no one would attack in fear of being countered.

Kof 98 and 2002 vs the new kof (XI i belive) Kof98&02 having a HUGE roster of characters but kof XI having shit characters. Yes, tekken 6 looks awesome, but tekken 3 is cool still :P and oh god how much Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo rocks, you can't argue with that.

I guess everyone has their own tastes in fighting games. Personally, I prefer the more complicated 2D Japanese stuff like BlazBlue, Guilty Gear and Melty Blood with long combos, blockstrings, crossovers and the likes.

Some people like 3D roaming action which is a bit more strategic and more emphasis on pokes.

Others like to sit in the corner and throw Hadoukens all day.

Actually, SSB is a brawler, not a fighter. A brawler is more than 2 fighters on one stage fighting, while a fighter is 1 on 1. Games with tag modes are still fighters because they're not all on one stage, you press a certain button to switch.

I personally like the first one because it actually, in my opinion has a lot better system, though there's not as many characters as the second. With the second, it seems like no one has to even try when it comes to winning. It's really hard to tell what's going on while you fight because of outlandish supers or regular moves. It's too messy and the gameplay with the first one is much more enjoyable in my eyes. I think skill sets the games apart.
