This Takes me back when the Sci Fi channel was cool, I remember begging my parents to take me to the store to buy blank VHS tapes to record this, Vampire Hunter D, Lens Man, Akira, urusei Yatsura beautiful Dreamer, Lily C.A.T, Iria, Green Legend Ran, Casshan and a few others!
Saw this back on Sci Fi. It was good, but I liked a lot of the other movies they showed better (Iria, Venus Wars, Vampire Hunter D, Tenchi Muyo, Akira, etc.)
@garoad I was around the same age too when I saw these, but the VERY first anime I had seen was Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind when I was 3 or 4... if you haven't seen it already then I highly recommend it.
The intro blew my mind it was amazing. The sound piece and the animation stile chosen were unreal. I was quiet surprised with the voices chosen in the English dub they were perfect. Is there any more anime movies from this specific director/ creator. Same deal with vampire hunter d still waiting on the third movie.
The director,Yoshiaki Kawajiri, has done a lot actually and you've probably seen them. His works include Wicked City, Ninja Scroll, Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust, and many others. This anime is based on a novel by Hideyuki Kikuchi, who is also the creator of Vampire Hunter D. Look them up, they got some good stuff out there.
I thought this movie was sick as hell when I first saw it on Sci-fi and then when I bought it on Vhs and saw everything that was edited it became one of my all time favs.
LOVE....THIS...ANIME! I saw it for the first time just a year ago! Boy, did it take me back to the days when anime had just an underground cult following!*sigh* Those were the days! Remember the old anime magazines like Protoculture Addicts back then! Sorry to get nostalgic!
First saw this when I was 14(I'm 28 now)and I still think it's great. I do remember Protoculture Addicts, and there was another anime mag(whose name escapes me)that I use to read. It was a brit mag and was how I discovered Macross and Armitage III. No worries bout the nostalgia, just about everything I post is for that very purpose.
I still have a TON of those old mags piled up in my house!I don't read the newer ones though. Well, except maybe Newtype on occasion! Thanks for posting, friend!!!

I remember seeing this awesome movie for the 1st time 15 years ago on the Sci-Fi Channel (May 15, 1995). Awesome intro fight.

Haha I remember seeing this video at the local rental, so I thought "Aw yeah?". Pop it in and the first 5 minutes I'm like "OMG TEH EPICS!!!".
Pity the rest of the movie didn't match the rest, but it had its memorable fights. Definitely one of the better anime movies I've seen.
Peace.

i was blown away with the distinctly 80s feel. Truly special movie, made in a special time.
