Wow, I remember having seen this concert as an 11 year old child. I was so impressed and fell in love with this woman from the very first moment on. Awesome concert!!
This is her forte. She was amazing when it came to singing in a R&B style....not sure why she went hip-hop (reach out to youth market?); but I really hope she goes back to this style because it's what made her (Vision of Love, I Don't Wanna Cry, Dreamlover, Hero even is R&B adult contemporary)

Mariah can still sing her old songs, She Just doesn't choose too, I mean she has 20 years in the biz and trust me, u dont see people like Britney and Christina as well as Celine singing their old hits constantly, Mariah has a large catalogue of songs to be singing lesser known hits such as ATYNAF or any other song she recorded 20 years ago.
Celine's songs aren't as difficult to sing as Whitney and Mariah's, to be fair. Celine is a hell of a vocalist still, but her voice is thin, and like I said, her songs aren't that hard.
@crazy2hazy I disagree. Its All Coming Back To Me, To Love You More, are some of the most difficult songs to sings out there. The only thing she isn't doing that they do is runs and trills and melismas all over the place. She knows she's not as much of an expert there and doesn't do it as often. But in terms of pure singing, I don't know how you get that her songs are easier.
There's plenty of things that make Mariah's songs harder, the most obvious are the melodies and the harmonies that Celine does not have the range for. Mariah usually sings about an octave lower in the background. She delivers meaningful phrases, which is important in R&B and gospel. Mariah's range is MUCH wider in both directions. Celine's melismas, but they often lack a central note and don't fit rhythmically w/ the song. Mariah's always fit, b/c she makes her music to fit her voice.
@crazy2hazy I don't think think most of Mariah's songs would be hard for Celine to sing minus melisma and runs. Especially the songs that don't include the whistle note. That said, I was talking about Whitney and Mariah, not just Mariah compared to Celine.
Ok, but Celine's songs are not as hard as Mariah's or Whitney's. Even without whistle, Mariah's range is too wide for her songs to be sung by Celine, and Whitney's songs require the vocals to build up to what some call a "vocal moment", like gospel singers do. Celine's range is wide, her songs are hard, and she can do what both the other two can do, just not to the same extent.

i think that mariah is still amazing... pop and r&b music has changed and i think that one of the reasons that talented vocalist like mariah and others throughout the 90's and early 21st century seemingly lose thier persona is because theyre trying to keep up and stay relavent in a society that is being distracted by image. talent has to some extent taken a back seat, in any event mariah added to a standard of vocal power that in chart music history that can only be matched by a few, i love her!

Celine's songs aren't as difficult to sing as Whitney and Mariah's, to be fair. Celine is a hell of a vocalist still, but her voice is thin, and like I said, her songs aren't that hard.

@crazy2hazy I disagree. Its All Coming Back To Me, To Love You More, are some of the most difficult songs to sings out there. The only thing she isn't doing that they do is runs and trills and melismas all over the place. She knows she's not as much of an expert there and doesn't do it as often. But in terms of pure singing, I don't know how you get that her songs are easier.

There's plenty of things that make Mariah's songs harder, the most obvious are the melodies and the harmonies that Celine does not have the range for. Mariah usually sings about an octave lower in the background. She delivers meaningful phrases, which is important in R&B and gospel. Mariah's range is MUCH wider in both directions. Celine's melismas, but they often lack a central note and don't fit rhythmically w/ the song. Mariah's always fit, b/c she makes her music to fit her voice.

Ok, but Celine's songs are not as hard as Mariah's or Whitney's. Even without whistle, Mariah's range is too wide for her songs to be sung by Celine, and Whitney's songs require the vocals to build up to what some call a "vocal moment", like gospel singers do. Celine's range is wide, her songs are hard, and she can do what both the other two can do, just not to the same extent.

i think that mariah is still amazing... pop and r&b music has changed and i think that one of the reasons that talented vocalist like mariah and others throughout the 90's and early 21st century seemingly lose thier persona is because theyre trying to keep up and stay relavent in a society that is being distracted by image. talent has to some extent taken a back seat, in any event mariah added to a standard of vocal power that in chart music history that can only be matched by a few, i love her!

i love mariah. always have. but in this video and back in the 90's she had a totally different demeanor. her character was genuine and sweet. now she comes off as bitchy and not very humble, not to mention she seems so uncomfortable on stage when singing now. she tries so hard to belt it out, whereas before it was seemingly effortless, like in this video. by far one of her best performances. she is getting older too, but i would love it if she got her old sweet personality back. anyone agree?
