Thanks for the help. I combined this tutorial with some others, got it to work! Thanks for a great starting point. I found that un-checking the "Sat" and "Luma" under the "chroma keyer" has a much better result! :)

hey i have a problem, when i select a clip and then go into effects, it doesnt let me select the chroma key effects under the effects tab (it is greyed out and i cant select it). I have even tried pre-rendering the video, but nothing is happening.

Help?

this effect definitely works better when there is high contrast between the two colors, but with a lot of patience I was able to allow it to distinguish between two similar shades.

This does not work well at all if your colored object is moving.

My object moved from the background to the foreground. I had to change the key about 25 times for a 45 second clip, and consistency was a big problem. Thanks for the tip, just telling pple that if your object moves a lot, it wont work great

@mkaras84 You have to click more than one shade by holding Shift. You should really zoom in to get the most colors for the best results especially if you doing a moving object

this is really helpful thanks! one question though- when i use the drop to select the color that i want to stay, it only allows me to select some certain area. Say i want to select a persons whole shirt, how do i do that?

hit the eyedrop again and hold shift while you select another color

@Dnoman56 So if i had an action scene, and i wanted to black outeverything but the explosions (say only the explosions were orange/red and no other background scenery was of the same colour) i'd just find a frame of an explosion and press shift with the eyedrop and highlight every color under the sun in that explosion... correct?
