Great band from before Kurt Cobain came along and killed Rock and Roll. Rock now is a depression-fest filled with people saying how horrible their lives and the world is. There are times when I can't listen to it. It is so gloomy.
Yes I do. Metal and rock were at its best, rap was virtually non existent, I could give two shits about the clothes or politics, and muscle cars were still roaming the streets.
Many people was there, many loved it, many hated it, I personally love the 80's and the clothes, the whole 80's pop culture was just great, it's a decade where all genres of music was good in it's own way.

The heavy metal bands didn't wear those silly outfits, they dressed in jeans and t-shirts. More realist and the metal bands were part of the 80's party scene and excess as well.
Yes, but that is why the genre is called hair or glam metal. These bands emphasized and exaggerated the 80's trends going on at the time. When glam metal caught on, other bands followed suit sporting eye liner and big hair, too. On a smaller scale, the general population adopoted some of these 80's trends as well: big hair, exaggerated makeup, etc. Perhaps the glam look took away from the value of the music, but those who grew up in the 80's can separate the look from the music.
This song is musically, very tightly put-together. Warren's solo is fantastic...it sounds thought-out, yet is still engaging without sounding like a wanky exercise.
Warren is a great guitar player who knows how to get the most out of his guitar for a song without sounding contrived. For example, his solos for Givin' Yourself Away succeed in being highly emotional as well as highly technical.
He's my favorite guitar player.
The Reach for the Sky album is often seen as a so-so LP by RATT fans but Warren flat-out rips on songs like Chain Reaction, What's It Gonna Be, Bottom Line and What I'm After.
Warren, as a guitarist, is up there with Steve Vai & Eddie VH.
RATT really were the best metal group of the '80s. They were a lot more diverse than people gave them credit for. They were just very subtle in the way they went about it rather than being heavy-handed.
In my opinion, '80s metal cheese is something like Nitro or that song by Quiet Riot, The Wild and The Young.
In regards to '80s rock in general, I'd say Europe and Bad English's Every Time I See You Smile.
Part of what sunk the hair metal movement was the goofy looking outfits they wore, I mean check out the digs in this video. Kids at the time could relate to the grunge bands, flanels, converse or combat boots and jeans, seemed more realistic.
Don't get me wrong, I don't have anything against the genre.
It's just pop metal got derided for not being much other than having lyrics correlating to women, partying and not much else in terms of lyrics that go beyond rock music cliches.
Had their been more bands like Dokken, willing to go beyond the lyrical standards of pop metal, the genre would have got more critical acclaim.
I disagree. The outfits and hair were just symptoms of the larger "party era" going on. The 80's were the era of excess. The music, the clothes, the trends, and attitude were pure party and good time fun. When the social and political climate started to change and take on a more serious tone, it was then and only then that grunge music was embraced by the masses. Grunge would never have been embraced in the 80's with all its angst and socio-political commentary and fashion trends.
I've been reading a book about The Beatles called Revolution in the Head (excellent book) which details intricately about how music reflected each decade.
I always saw the '90s as an extended hang over period for the party-driven metal bands.
It's a shame that a lot of people dismiss the bands because of the image because if the bands had a casual '80s image and it was just the videos themselves that were over the top, more people today (like teens) would dig it.
No question that the glam image was a distraction to the music, but from what I see here on YT and what I have seen at a few concerts, kids, tweens, and teens are digging this music from the 80's. They have discovered it either through their parents or on their own in response to all the "crappy" current music out there today. From what I see, kids are intrigued with the glam image and the music associated with that period. What was maligned before is actually quite popular now!
When searching for RATT and Motley Crue fans on MySpace, I've found some fairly young people getting into the music and even adopting the glam aesthetic.
If this catches onto more people, hopefully the emo craze will whittle away like brittle bones, turning into artifacts that exist underground.
Imagine if Jake had joined the band when they reunited in 99?
I think Jake was the only guitarist who had the right to replace Crosby especially since not only did Jake used to be in RATT but he also co-wrote another song from this album - Never Use Love.
Robbin asked if he could do the solo Jake devised for this song. Jake declined but Rob took it anyway.
Given the animosity that occurred between War and Rob in the late '80s and early '90s, Jake was more ideal.
i love this song!! stephen pearcy is the hottest man in the world!!!!!!!! why o why did i have to be born in the 90's! 70s and 80s rock 4 ever!!!!!!!!!
Wow you're right! I never even thought of that! Although this wasn't the role I had in mind, I could find out what I was thinking of earlier thanks to you knowing his name. He played a role in an episode of some kids show McGee and Me as a little tiny kid who was picked on all the time. I believe it was made only a couple years after this video.
I dont know why they are calling this "glam" This is 80s metal. You want glam? Watch: Sweet- "Ballroom Blitz". Gary Glitter, Mott the Hoople- "All the way to Memphis" Marc Bolan- "Jeepster" Glam was early 70s,Mostly English- period. This was metal when I saw them and listened to this. BTW - they sucked in concert. Good in the studio though.
I think people rely too much on image to make an assessment on RATT. Also, because they were friends with Crue and toured with glam bands, they got lumped in with the glam metal scene.
A friend once told me that RATT were heavier live than they were on their albums which is why a lot of people felt that their producer Beau Hill weakened them (although Desmond Child softened them more when it came to being the producer for the Detonator album).
I'm with ya. :) I have a fondness for music and videos from the 80's. The hair, the fashion---all seem ridiculous now but were quite the thing back then. I miss those days. :(
omg! im only 13 years old so i didnt get to live through the 70s and 80s but omg the lead singer steven is THE HOTTEST MAN IN THE WORLD! god i wish i could have lived through the 70s and 80s!

Juan was known for all his crazy moves, the band members had names for all the different moves he made. Definitely one of the more energetic and unique bass players of the genre.
whats really funny is how the rest of the band made up names for his stage moves because he did the same moves every night. hahahaha like the wonderland.
This songs pretty good, catchy i had it in my head for the whole fucking day when i first herad it. The best line is easily "If you give me just one chane to prove myself... (in the pants) lol
Crashdietrock what do u mean linkin park, korn and dragonforce are bad exemple of their heritage? r u outta ur mind? and how dare u call them shitty bands u focking bastard. BAI DEN TONTI BO MAMA
respect ratt and not only ratt but all the 70s 80s rock. if it wasn't 4 them there will be no linkin park, no korn, no dragonforce no nothing. these guys r legends
Linkin park, Korn and Dragonforce are bad exemple of their heritage because those are shitty band. You should've said : . if it wasn't 4 them there will be no Crashdiet, no Vains Of Jenna, no Dirty Penny, no Snake Of eden, no Blackrain.
TRG: I heard that the SWORD guitar will be reissued.
WD:I think Wayne Charvel sold his company, so it can't be called Charvel. It's called Wayne Guitars, but he and his son, Michael, are gonna be building guitars and I gave them a license to do that to the sword guitar and the James Dean guitar and the snake guitar. Wayne Charvel, When I first picked up the Charvel guitar. It really took everything great about the '58 Fender Strato and it was kind of just made modern.
This song reminds me so much of Van Halen's "Unchained". In both songs, the guitar intro's are absolute masterpieces. It's too bad that a lot of people nowadays don't know about this stuff. Classic Rock is the best kind of music in my opinion.
I don't really like Rap either, especially the crap nowadays, but I'm cool with the old school stuff.

Juan was weird but hilarious in 1:34
EnjoyTheSilence696 3 years ago
Juan was known for all his crazy moves, the band members had names for all the different moves he made. Definitely one of the more energetic and unique bass players of the genre.
EpicMtnBiker 3 years ago
whats really funny is how the rest of the band made up names for his stage moves because he did the same moves every night. hahahaha like the wonderland.

I don't remember her name. But if memory serves me right, she was a Playboy Playmate at the time...around '85 or '86 I think.

I never said Motley was shit overall.
I was mostly referring to their Theatre period.
With that said, if I had to rate both bands in terms of overall quality, I'd say Motley were a very good band (8/10) and Ratt were great (9/10).
I think Ratt were more groundbreaking. Their first record, the self-titled EP, was the first one to feature sludge metal and groove metal.
The original version of You're in Trouble, which was on the European import of the '83 EP, is the first example of grunge.

I never said it was a bad album. It's a good one but Invasion was great.
