  • Renato Canova posted on Letsrun that Bekele did the following workouts in preparation for this World Record

    4 x 2000m in 5:13 with a 3:30 rest + 1 x 1000m in 2:27 and

    12 x 1000m in 2:35-2:36 with a 2:30 rest

  • that drumming noise is annoying

  • I just can't find Bekele's 5000m world record broken in Hengelo Netherlands in 2004. That's just strange, please somebody inform me where to find it's video?

  • Watching any running related world record is porn for runners :)

  • Scarily fast, unbelievable. That he was so far ahead makes it all the more impressive. He didn't have the benefit of that adrenaline rush you get when fighting for the lead: this was pure will, pure speed, pure godly athleticism.

And SDMendoza619, I totally agree. I was just on an online forum where they were arguing over (American) football vs. soccer. I argued that they were both great... and that there are also some 10K races that are more exciting than some football/soccer games!

  • would've probably been 26:14 if those people would've moved to the 2nd lane

  • LOOOOOOOOOOOOL the other guy was running so hard so he dont get over laped Looooooooooool

  • I got about 11.5 for his last 100... could that be right?

  • @WesleytheBear i watched that and i got 12.5 seconds. i think the 100 meters to go mark is still a little bit on the turn

  • Very very very beautifule vin...the mach of runs...!!!

  • Bekele, El Guerrouj and Gabrselassie are my heros

  • @walishdragon Exactly those atheletes deserved to be known world wide and respected more than they are. II wish running was a popular sport but people just don't want to see people run around in circles and thats all they think of it. People think its just an exercise and every one can achieve that level if they just "train" hard.

  • beast!!!!!

  • and all we hear about is those jamaicans running fast for... 100 meters?

  • that is soooooooooooo hard man wtf

  • Absolutely remarkable! Him and El Guerrouj are outstanding athletes.

  • Is it possible that he doesn't even breathe fast when he finishes the run??? I mean dude set the WR and didn't even take a breathe, when I run 5 km at a lame result (comparing to professionals) I pass out

  • @PurgerKaj lol i just joined my cross country team, runned 3 miles and passed out for 12 hours

  • You are the greatest Bekele, THE greatest!

  • You are a great man Bekele, such a great man!

  • That is just fucking insane.

  • and i was proud of myself when i got it in 55 mins.....

  • ethiopia

  • his last 100m was about 10 seconds .. but you have to keep in mind that the athletes competing in the 100m are starting from 0 speed so they have to accelerate to full speed. whereas bekele is already running at the last 100m mark probably around 9.5-10m/s

  • i think he did his last 100m in 9:91 seconds or 10 seconds! or my eys must be crazy! omggg what the hell happened to me!?!

  • I dare to call him a machine

  • mo who? i hope kenny does the double this weekend!

  • last 100 meters was 10.18 secs.. that is just insane!

  • @Crosscountry616 His last 100m was NOT 10.18!! There is no 100m mark on the inside lane of this track. He reaches 110m to go in 26:02.8 and the 90m mark in 26:05.6. That's 2.8secs for 20m, which is 14.0 flat 100m pace. His time with 100m to go would have been around 26:04.2, meaning his last 100m was about 13.3.

  • Last 100m in around 7 seconds... (last 400m in 57 seconds, 14s/100m in average). Unreal.

  • @jtblin

I'm not sure how stupid you are, but if you think he ran anywhere near 7 seconds for his last 100, please check the current 100m World record.

  • Comment removed

  • @jtblin

    "Last 100m in around 7 seconds" Eehm...what????

  • @hardcorl Sorry typo i meant from the 60m mark. Was watching Bolt's WR before, got distracted...

  • Brussels !!! (not Zurich!)

  • the greatest ever performance in athletics history

  • the single greatest performance in athletics history

  • This Record was actually set in Brussels, Belgium, not Zurich as the opening to the video or the video description states.

  • He's running "Juiced up"

  • I really admire him ¡He's great!

Quote: didn't he punch his face against the camera at 9:10?

  • ifeel sorry for terika bekele , hes an amazzing runner but his brohter is breaking the records, hes the pacemaker , wen his bro retires i cant wait 2 c how well he cn fun :)

  • Does anyone know where I can watch his 5000 meter world record?

  • @ippyforeward just fucking look it up in google vids or youtube

  • Beast! He just ran my fastest 400m for 25 laps. I can't believe that. Sucks that these distance runners hardly get any respect. These athletes be pushing their bodies to the limit.

  • @SDMendoza619

yes true, distance runners never get any respect, but lets be serious, your 400m pr is pretty weak

  • @h8erguy not if your mid 30's and out of shape moron

  • @SDMendoza619 For real! These guys work harder than many football players.

  • Why are they all skinny lookin'?

  • @astrea00 The lighter the better with distance running. Extra weight would only make their hearts work harder and reduce their times.

  • @astrea00 the same reason fat people are slow

  • good video but can I ask why there is a fucking freight train in the background?

  • Distance runners ftw

  • The most amazing result in this competition was when Sammy Wanjiru ran an amazing 26.41,75 at the age of 18. R.I.P Sammy, the greatest ever.

  • Mr. Bekele, you just set the WR in the 10k! Are you tired?

    Bekele: NAHHHHH

  • soft i run 100,000m ;)

  • holy crap

wonder how fast he could run 100 if he didn't run 9900 before that

  • @jay231g 11 seconds I guess

  • Probably not much faster. He routinely closes in 53 in tactical championships but I wouldn't be surprised if he could only run 49 fresh. It's a popular misconception that being a great kicker is about pure speed. Having great speed and being able to access it after 24 laps of 63.x are different abilites, and Bekele is the best ever at the latter.

  • @capng2010 He said in an interview that his his best time for 400m was 49 seconds.

  • @joeyyowee he also said he never trained for the 400m in that same interview (not that it even matters at all)

  • @AssHoleThunder I'm sure he could reduce his time by a few seconds if he specifically focused on 400m, but it would be pointless for him to do that.

  • doper!!!

  • I wish to be alive in more 80-100 yrs.. when the world record break again and again and we all be surprise of the humans abillities..

  • what is the time at the last lap (400m) ? and what is the everage time every km? is it below 2:30?

  • @juninhopernambucano3 His last lap was 57.1 seconds, and he averaged around a 63 second lap (so about 2:37-2:38 per kilometer). Hardly anybody can hold 2:30 for 2 miles, let alone for six and a quarter.

  • thank you... I did 6:10 min in 2 km

  • watching him on tv we cant realize how d* fast hes running

  • This world record race took place in Brussels not Zurich...

  • hihì_pásst_hiêr_net_réîn_âba_ïch_bíñ_sö_ëiñsãm_wîll_jémåñd_mït_mîã_schrêìben

  • what is the fastest animal on earth?

    an ethiopian chicken

i apologise if anyone takes offence but it is a joke

    These men are SUPERHUMAN

  • WOW, i mean seriously it is just astonishing how fast all of these Lads are running.

god bless everysingle one of them. this feats are aw inspiring..

  • so good

  • Very bad quality ....

  • This dude inspires me! He needs to recover- I want to see 26:10 out of him before he moves on to the marathon!

  • That's -> 15,77 for 100m

    That's ->2,37 for 1000m

    AMAZING

  • I can't believe he ran that last 100m in 10 seconds flat after all that running! Most 100meter sprinters can't even hit 10secs

  • What is that train sound in the background?

  • @Chocosizzles

Bekele was making that train sound, just look at him.

  • Paavo Nurmi is the best!

  • this guy is an inspiration! 5ft4 in height aswell

  • dang

  • stinking doper!

  • WOW. No big deal, just 6.2 miles at 4:14 average pace!

  • THAT WAS 10 FOR THE LAST 100 THAT IS INSANE

  • Wait, this is Brussels isn't it?

  • Medium speed: 26.17 km/h

  • Medius speed: 26.17 km/h

  • He's lapping world class runners!

  • ... did he run the last 100m at a 10 flat???? holy shit the guy is a god

  • im new champion 10000m :)

  • Bekele is phenominal. A sub 60 sec final lap of a 10K at WR pace.

  • lapping in a professional race. Incredible.

  • bekele is the best!!

  • @Bjob4thewin They weigh like 10 pounds, ferchrissake! Don't even bother comparing normal human effort with these genetic freaks of nature!

  • @openuniverse2003 Bekele is 5'4", 124 pounds, and he isn't the smallest of that crowd

  • @gordieranger What do you think of today's NYC Marathon? Gabrseillassie dropping out at Mile 17.

  • @openuniverse2003 genetic freaks? just because they can do what you can never ever do, doesnt make them freaks, fuckin jealous ass bitch

  • @DragonBruceLee27 Whoa! Whooaaa! Slow down there, slant eyes! Don't get all kung-fooey one me, yo, I'll bust a cap in yo ass, werd! Werd to yer muthuh! Now youse knows I be a-tellin' dah troof 'bout them darkies, why you be hatin' so? Do some tai chi or suhthin, get your freak off, what-EV-ER!

  • @openuniverse2003 i love how you automatically assigned me a race because you saw "bruce lee" on my user name, what a dumb bitch, stop hating, those "darkies" make more money than you and are healthier than you, so you should just shut the fuck up

  • @openuniverse2003 Bekele is 5'4" at 124 pounds

  • @openuniverse2003 If there is such thing, u r a jealous couch potato

  • @wojeb I don't need a blowjob just now, but hey, thanks for the offer.

  • @openuniverse2003 that is a white man's disease, better get it from the like of you

  • @wojeb You're a pathetic turd. Time to flush the toilet! FLUSH!!!!!!!!

  • @openuniverse2003 down with fagssss

  • @wojeb You done be a HATER, son! Now, go back to licking that negro taint! LULZ!

  • Escandaloso el ritmo de este fuera de serie y haciendo el ultimo 5000 solo

  • Escandaloso el ritmo endiablado de este monstruo atletico y haciendo 5km a solaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaas.

  • Wow, wow, wow and once again WOW!!! This video is a great motivation go running...

  • WOW. That dude has an awesome kick in the end.

  • @skento2000 The drums. They help the runners maintain their rhythm, so I wouldn't call them gay exactly. Maybe annoying for the viewer but... well, if 26:17.54 is the result, I'm not complaining.

  • That was dope!

  • These guys run almost twice faster than me. I run a 5k in 25 minutes :D

  • @zadigjaja THAT IS TWICE FASTER THAN U

  • nice vid but the sound is annoying!!

  • hm klingt kommisch aber ich bin so heiss auf eis und jungs

  • sick!!!!

  • amazing run

too funny...guys getting lapped at end picked it up... at 8m57s guy looks back and races to start/finish and drastically slows down but can confidently continue running knowing he was not lapped, lol!

  • esse cara e um mostro do atletismo.....

  • Absolutely incredible. The commentary, crowd reaction, sound and video quality don't do it justice at all.

  • How do they know what lap their on? Is there a screen with the number of laps? Cause keeping track might get confusing

  • @IPwnAllAndLeaveNone I think they figure it out looking at their splits, or they just run until they hear the bell, and book their last lap.

  • Haha, he looks very tired after end. :D

  • he runs like an 11 last 100m!!!!

  • THIS DUDE WAS BORN TO RUN

  • @Betterment8521 technically all humans are literally born to run, thank you evolution !!

  • i have never seen some one like this man.

  • @Betterment8521

    But what's he running from?

  • Once he starts training for the marathon it's over...

  • holy hell i get tired just watching this

  • his last 100 split was 10 seconds! jeez!

  • @Drummaboyy13 that is not the 100m mark. it was more like 11 high

  • damn damn DAAAAAMN!! I wish I could run ONE lap below 60 seconds.

  • i ran a 10k this morning.. at 42 =(

  • @viacontra dude that's still good. keep practicing!

  • @esquimalt1 Okay so just starting to get back into the groove of things.. 37:47 ! :] whoohoo... stil not up there though, but I have a few years!

  • Stupid Bekele... Beat my 5k time

  • @Eduard561234 haha

  • Lmaster- i was doing a very rough estimate in my head but wow even more reason to be amazed. I think I might be able to run 14 mph for about a minute maybe 2 before I would feel like I am about to keel over

  • MY HERO!!:P

  • I'm doing a 10k in June, my first and if I can do it in 75 minutes I'll be pretty happy.

  • Holy crap that's averaging around 12 mph throughout, that is amazing.

  • @jpete3027666 Actually, its a little over 14! His pace is around 4:14 per mile, which is like 14.1 MPH.

Thats so crazy when you get down to it. Some people can't even sustain a cycling pace that fast!

  • @LMaster1 what's sad is, i run faster than i cycle, even though my bike isn't exactly high quality.

  • I ran a 10k in Brighton a few months back and the winner came in at 28 minutes. As I was running the first stretch (the course loops back on itself) I saw the guy flash past me, already on the way back to the finish line, and there was a moment where I was just like 'Seriously, fuck this'

  • I don't have enough word to describe, him he is just an awesome athlete of the century period.

  • Comment removed

  • You would really have to have a decent knowledge and experience on distance running in order to appreciate this kind of time for 10K

  • It takes me 55 minutes to run 10K on a F*****g tread mill!

  • if he ran an 8k and I ran a 5k it would be a close race

  • haha i just noticed, he did 8k in 21:04, my PB for 5k is 21:03 :)

  • This was history in the making. This little Ethiopian dynamo can break the marathon record someday. He knows nothing but chase Haile G/Selassie, his idol.

  • 22.9 Km/h WOWOWOW AMAZING

  • it takes me 20 minutes to run a 5k. this dude does twice that in the same time. omfg

  • @l0rdr3ginald398

That comment deserves a slap in the face.

  • that comment deserves a pat on the ass and to be made king among men.

  • Why are they sprinting with bekele with a lap to go?

  • they probably knew bekele trying to set a wr. So they didn't want to block him.

  • Good point.

  • not even. this is scary.

  • Was there a helicopter on the field or what?

  • @aaronhallam61 ethiopian fans with drums on the 2nd corner...

  • 我諗我全速既800米都唔夠佢10k既最後2個圈快-v-!!

  • Really amazing pace. Not to imagine even for steady runners I think.

By the way, I am quite sure this event was in Brussels, Belgium not Zurich.

  • don't get me wrong 11 seconds is amazing for the last hundred of a 10k, but its not like hes starting and having to accelerate. hes already running, which makes it faster. its still fast, but not as fast as everyone is making it seem

  • @blaze222666 we are talking about an 11 second for his last 100m of a 6.2 mile race. Not to mention it is 6.2 miles run on a track. That's being a machine.

  • i said it was really good, but you cant compare 11 seconds on a run like that to a down start, where you have to start from nothing and accelarate. obviously bekele is a tank and 11 seconds is amazing, but most people probably dont realize that you cant compare it to a time that a normal hundred meter runner would run

  • Well if you are comparing the time like that than the same could be said about a sprinter trying to run a 10k. That is like trying to compare times of a distance swimmer and a distance swimmer. You can't and therefore it is a mute point. But mainly I thought you were bashing Bekele; so I was just making credit was given where credit is due.

  • no, i wasnt bashing bekele. everyone knows bekele is the best in the 5k and the 10k ever. Anyone who disagrees is either an idiot or doesn't know the world records that bekele has set.

  • @blaze222666 I know I'm replying to a six-month old comment, but the sheer idiocy of your comment is so astounding I can barely muster the mental strength to comprehend it. He just ran a fucking 4:20 mile 6.1 times and to finish that off with an 11 second 100 meter dash is mind-boggling. You do realize that some high school runners who have trained for four years have not attained an 11 second 100 meter dash?

  • @Chocosizzles holy shit i have already said that its amazing, but nobody is accounting for the fact that he was already moving, it was not from a down start which is how the runners who run the 100 meters you are referring to start. and its also 11.something, not 11 flat. even considering all of this, I AGREE THATS ITS FUCKING AMAZING, i was just pointing out a few things.

  • @professorskilz No, it's just that running 9900 meters beforehand makes accelerating into the 100 meter dash so damn insignificant. To put it to you this way, imagine if could not feel your muscles bones, or legs for that matter. Now, you must sprint 100 meters on top of that. Trust me, "acceleration" at this point does not matter.

  • @Chocosizzles Ok try to understand this when i tell you that it is amazing. i was just saying that if bekele was started at a down start when he was this tired it would not be as fast, so its not comparable to other 100m down start times. im in no way saying it was slow, im just pointing something out, i dont mean to take anything away from him.

  • @Chocosizzles they have a standing start. Bekele is awesome though.

  • @blaze222666 Wow, let's just forget that he just ran 9900m before that.

  • Wow the man is a machine. Well done Kenenisa, you're a joy to watch. All those hot and lonely days and nights training in the Ethipian hills with none of the comforts us westerners have has paid off for you.

  • World Record Pace= 63s laps.

I cannot, cannot, cannot tell you

    HOW INSANE THAT IS!!!!!!!!
