  • Take that prequel trilogy. You have nothing in 3 movies that comes close to one epic scene of many in Empire.

  • JESUS CHRIST IS THERE ANY VIDEO ON YOUTUBE WITH THE RIGHT PITCH FOR THE MUSIC????? fuck.

  • Movie from times when effects were "special" not the fucking lazy ass CGI

  • At 2:40, the asteroid crossing the screen from top left to right is actually a potato, put in by a nameless effects manager.

  • god fuckin dammit I love these movies so much! just awesome!

  • Does anyone know the song when they get OUT of the asteroid field and attack the Star Destroyers? I'm pretty sure it was the song for Nar Shadda Multiplayer in Jedi Outcast.

  • 8:36 is the best. the way c3po screams and flaps his arms, its funny shit.

  • This amazing sequence still kicks ass today! Remember---NONE of this was done with fake-looking CGI. Real models were used. This was INCREDIBLY difficult to do back in 1980.

  • 9:03 I like how Han kinda pushed Leia out the way so he could run in first "YOU'RE ON YOUR OWN, BITCH!!" xD

  • 9:41

    "Ah! Damn it!"

    "What? What is it?

"I never get a space ship! I never get anything!"

    "Oh... Shall we order Chinese?"

    LOL

  • @ XHellphyreX You honestly would be surprised by the model work that ILM created for the prequels, things like the Coruscant battle was obvious CG. But Many close up shot were model based...... Plus ILM has superior blurring and compositing techniques.

  • best scene in the film is when the imperial star destroyer is destroyed by asteroid while Darth Vader command fleet commanders and one of them disappears...

    from 5:00 hahaha... rofl...

  • Anakin Skywalker is a pussy next to Han Solo and his flying skills

  • @raulmaster1000 ankin skywalker is a whiny little bitch that murders Muslims

  • 1:46 the third astroid that passes the cockpit is a Potato...

  • @drappke Also the big one at 2:20

  • "You said you wanted to be around when I make a mistake, well this could be it sweetheart." Real dialogue between a man and a woman. I have used this line with my ex-wife while driving. Compare this to: "I wish I could just wish my feelings away."

    Empire rules.

  • 4:49 "God Damnit 3PO"

  • The thing flying from centre right to upper right quite quickly out of the Falcon's front window at 2:49 is actually a potato.

  • Wow....what bigoted little shit you are robhere.

  • Good gravy will you all please shut up about the damn prequels. We got it already. We got the message five years ago: you hate it. Good for you, that's nice and dandy, whatever helps you sleep at night. GAWD, SHUT UP ALREADY You're already making yourselves even more tedious and annoying than the movies you so heavily criticize. If you hate the prequels so much: don't speak, utter or think about them. Period. You only hurt yourselves with this long, drawn-out trite

  • @kaihedgie And I thought you politically correct fairies were all for freedom of speech? If people hate the shitty prequels they are entitled to say so, most of the World does so you will not silence the majority, despite your little bitch rant. Now run along and wank off watching CGI Transformers.

  • Home come they can survive in this astroid/living creature without space suits?

I mean there in space where there is vacüum?

  • What are you doing? You're not actually going INTO an asteroid field???

  • Thank God that idiot Lucas ( well maybe he wasn't an Idiot then ) or the movie industry back then hadn't access to the awful, cheap looking CGI that has ruined all fantasy movies now. You really feel your watching a chase through an asteroid field, William's grt music, quality actors that look grown up... and that is all model work you're looking at. In 100 years faggoty CG STILL will never look as good as this but sadly proper effects are a thing of the past.

  • @robhere1982 Cool story bro

  • @kaihedgie Why do you talk like a faggot? I'll tell you something 'bro', the story I told about your mother was 'Cool' to. Now fuck off and if you got 'smart' like that in real life with me I'd break your neck, fucking brave little internet faggot.

  • @robhere1982 The second you used the word faggot was the second I didn't care whatever you half-brained argument you had to say

  • @kaihedgie So you're another pussy-whipped, politically correct coward then. Fuck off faggot... sorry H-O-M-O-S-E-X-U-A-L.

  • @robhere1982 Calling someone out on their sexuality as the only argument only confirms your own insecurities, then again, you probably wouldn't understand, knowing your "compelling" arguments as it is

  • @kaihedgie Come comeback, you just arrived from the 90's? LOL

  • @robhere1982 Nah, half-brained is being generous. More like brain-dead.

  • @kaihedgie My God, the PC Fairy police are out in force today.

  • @kaihedgie @robhere1982 WORDS ARE FOR FAGS.

  • @ItsTheCos Then why are you using words?

  • @kaihedgie I'm saying that's what @robhere1982 was saying, apparently. "Why do you talk like a faggot?" is a fairly anti-intellectual stance to be taking.

Then again, he was born in 1982. We all know everyone born then is totally gay and likes to bang dudes. *Waits for reply that fails to understand sarcasm*

  • You are right. CGI still looks El Fako---especially in close ups. Not that it doesn't have its uses, and is a good tool to add to the f/x technician's toolbox. But, unfortunately, it has become a crutch for today's movies to cover-up weak storylines and poor screenwriting. Got a weak scene? The director tells the f/x guys to create a thousand aliens instead of one. Just a few mouse clicks is all it takes. This sequence in Empire was mostly real models--VERY difficult to do back in 1980.

  • Now I know why emperor soo piss off when vader order ship stay in the asteroid.

Vader really an fuck up Royal

PS:Please refer detail to Robot Chicken

  • "Oh Yeah? watch this..."

    *Peeeeeeeow...Neow neow neow neow*

    "Watch What?"

    "I think we're in trouble"

    Epic

  • with a star destroyer on there tail would there really be only 4 tie fighters in the pursuit ?

  • also just a point, the distance between asteroids in the real field is much greater

  • having to work on your ships light speed while fleeing, then into an asteroid field, ha shit, just saying it seems impossible

  • oh my god.... the dialogue is perfect....

its incredible even without the soundtrack

  • Empire Strikes Back is by far the best of the trilogy. I don't count the prequels as being Star Wars. They're more just high priced effects with little to do with the story and useless dialogue. I'll take a scene like this with good graphics and good acting over all the high priced bullshiat in the prequels any day of the week.

  • lol SHUT HIM UP OR SHUT HIM DOWN!!!!!!

  • I'm very glad Lucas/Williams didn't waste the music at 4:35 on Anakin and Padme....

  • I had these on Beta MAX back in the day...blurry and shitty but I watched the hell out of them

  • LOL when Han is yelling while trying to fix the hyperdrive motorvator (the thing that makes the ship go light speed) around 1:08 to 1:28 in this video.

  • I always get a laugh when chewbecca runs into the side of the ship at 9:05

  • executor look so impressive, its poor that it seems do go down that easy in ep6.

  • IMO, the best movie in the saga is Episode V

  • C3PO=COCKBLOCK

  • beautifully conceived. even by today's standards still one of the best action sequences ever.

  • Best scene ever (In my opinion).

  • I saw the TIE pilot in the debris, the potato, AND the popcorn.

  • @tjrieves could you point out where they are

  • millenium falcons maneuvers in this movie sure beat listing lazily to the left :D

  • @System509 Since when?

  • @tjrieves since family guy :D

  • ...I totally agree with XhellphyreX...I think that they overuse and abuse CGI, CGI can be used in certain situations but i prefer the "real" thing. no matter how advanced CGI gets it will ALWAYS look fake just like in the movie I am Legend. they CGI'd the infected humans, it looked AWFUL!!!

  • at whick second we can see the potato and the shoe flying into space?

  • that must have sucked for the worm, but the spaceship is so small that he wouldnt even get full. maybe he was just pissed at them...

  • 2:12 guy flies out LOL

  • Apollo Aton Ono at 2:57

  • At 1:47, the third asteroid to pass by the top of the screen is the potato. I don't know where the shows is, though.

  • @Brakzar

I mean where the shoe is. Not show lol.

  • @Brakzar pause at 2:47......SHOE

  • from 6:51 to 7:04 are the ambient samples used in the Nine Inch Nails song "Help Me I'm In Hell".

  • "great, well we can still outmaneuver them!"

one of my favorite quotes from the series

  • 2:51 - 2:55 best-scene-ever

  • Personally, I think models have much more visual appeal than CG. I don't care how advanced CG tech. gets, you can always tell the actors are reacting to nothing actually there. Star Wars 4, 5, 6 rule. The first 3 were ok but I think a little too heavy on CG. I would have stuck with the models - they're more realistic, more tangible. I think even Yoda was CG for his fight scenes. I think using animatronix coupled with some good puppeteering would have been just fine.

  • @XHellphyreX

    Huh?

Can tell they're acting to nothing being there?

There's nothing really there in all these scenes too lol.

Some actors I've seen have pulled it off really well, like David Hewlett.

I like how you think Yoda was CG for his fight scenes LOL!!!!! He was entirely CG for episodes 2 and 3 period, and you can't even be too sure about it LOL

  • @XHellphyreX yea gc has no charm at all watching cgi is like watching a cut scene in from videogame i went to go see avatar and i couldn't enjoy it cause the entire time i was their i was thinking press a to skip press a to skip

  • Still awesome, no CGI, as much as i like good CGI, but models have so much more, i dunno, realism. And everyone who's bitching about Jedi, go back and watch it, ignore the ewoks, and watch that last battle against the Fleet of SD's and the Executor, and tell me it's not fucking mint .

  • Nice to see that you used the original version not the DVD version. I never liked that change. Never synced up right.

  • Then what happened? Lucas ruined it all with 'Return Of The Jedi' I don't think a film has ever let me down as much as Jedi did. As for the next three!! Empire is the glue that holds it all together, one great film one ok film and four terrible terrible films.

  • hahaha i totally agree! new hope is okay, empire is amazing, returnofjedi has ewoks which ruin it, and prequels suck ballz

  • Sorry, man...I LOVE the Ewoks! They were cute and BADASS...and they represented the 'little guy' defeating the big guy...Jedi kicked ass, all three films RULE over the 'newer' ones...

  • My all-time favorite SW sequence! :D

  • 6:40, those TIE/gt's with the TIE Bombers or normal TIE's?

  • You know, I'm wondering now too. I can't tell if the first pair of bombs dropped from the bombers or the fighter/gts.

  • They're normal TIEs acting as escorts for the bombers.

  • i think han is a better pilot than luke or anaiken...even lando.

  • Han has more experience than both of them.

  • "What is thy bidding, my master?"

  • I love the way the Millennium Falcon sounds at 0:35

  • lol 3 SDs and only 4 TIEs???? one SD actually has 72 TIEs... but ok, maybe it would look gay if the MF is chased by 216 TIEs at once =D

  • haha the captains of all the star destroyers want to personally capture the falcon so bad they collided with eachother.

  • Leboo Set 2.7.2.1.

  • hey C-3PO,

in Texas Hold 'em, the odds of flopping a straight flush are about 72,000 to 1

  • @theSTAR70 "Never tell me the odds."

  • @Dac719

    LOL

  • 1:26 is funny

  • best music from any star wars movie

  • I don't know. "Battle of the Heroes" and "Binary Sunset" are the best in my book.

  • I always wondered: how the hell did those Star Destroyers not see each other? That's like 3 Aircraft Carriers ramming each other, even though they had several miles before collision. Was everyone on all 3 SD bridges so focused on 1 tiny ship?

  • Yeah, pretty fucked and just plain weird! But it was awesome, just watching the Imperial Officer panic, and saying "Take evasive action"!

  • Yeah. Judging from this, SD's must have really REALLY poor maneuverability. :P

  • 0:50

    LOL

  • 4:50 another classic 3-PO comment, "you're perfectly welcome sir"

  • 2:22 is the part that makes me laugh until i have a heart attack and choke on my beer at the same time! "OHH, Look!!!...OHHH..OOOOHH"

  • I heard one of the asteroids was a real old shoe, that the FX-crew inserted as a revenge to Lucas, but I couldnt see that shoe.

  • At 5:50 it awesome.

Don't know why Lucas changed it for the DVD, I always found that pretty stupid.

  • Does anyone know what the track in the background is called?

  • It's the name of the clip. :)

  • Thanks bud

  • @monkeyboy6000 Bloody hell this is the best part of the entire six part Star Wars series!

  • best scene in all star wars movies !!!!

  • When the tie fighter hits the astroid, you can see the pilots body burning from the explosion

  • I don't think its the pilots body,i think its the right wing or watever its called

  • nope it's the body

  • So you are saying a jagged piece of something is a body?

  • Great. well we can still outmaneauver em'. My favorite saying in all the starwars movies

  • I love that line too. It's kinda become my motto/saying, when in a tight spot.

  • what is?

  • "Great... Well, we can still outmaneauvor 'em".

  • OH!!!! thanks!!!!!

  • The potato is the third asteroid to go past the Falcon.

  • At 5:05 is one of my favorite scenes from the Star Wars trilogy. It's so subtle most people miss it. A large asteroid takes out the commanding platform of one of the star destroyers... in the next scene you see Darth Vader addressing three... oops, make that two commanders from three of the star destroyers!!!

  • totally agree, its the things in the background that can make a good movie great.

  • ...and in that last fleeting moment you can actually see the star destroyer captain flinch just before his demise !!!

  • @oshinataka Never noticed that before. Thanks.

  • "Never tell me the odds!"

  • This isn't the special edition, is it?

  • No, I'd never post any of that so-called "Special Edition" crap here. :)

  • For some reason I think this looks better filmed directly off a TV screen lol.

  • Where's the potato?

  • My favorite scene of the original trilogy!

  • i love whoever uploaded this

  • I love the music; it gets so grand when Han goes into the field!

  • "Sir, I've isolated the reverse power flux coupling!"

    - "Thank you. Thank you very much."

    HILARIOUS

  • Immer wieder geil !!!

  • Ja! :D

  • Bring me the hydrospanners!

  • Threepio's scream at 9:18 cracks me up every time.

  • I know Lol

  • 2:43 C-3PO needs a hug!

  • I clicked on the time to see what you meant... and totally cracked up! Thanks!

  • 7:15 scared the shit outta me for some reason.

  • Lol 2:13 pilot ejects and gets disentegrated

  • Harrison Ford rocks as an actor!!!!!

  • awesome! awesome! awesome!, han is the best pilot in the galaxy. the force is with us!...

  • Man I guess those Star Desstroyers just didnt seem to notice that they were flying RIGHT into eachother.... Ooook?

  • The part where the Mynok slams against the MF's window scared the shit out of me the first time I saw it. I still flinch to this day because I can never anticipate it coming. Brilliant sequence.

  • The asteroid field chase is my favorite part of any Star Wars film ever made, ever. John Williams' score is at its very best here. Awesome, awesome, awesome.

  • I love this part of the movie. FAVE PART!

  • 0:31 - 0:35 If that alarm doesn't get your attention nothing will. Does anyone know if this alarm sound was copied from something in the military?

  • I wondered about that, too. It'd be a great sound to isolate for a ringtone. :)

  • I am NOT a committee!

  • i get chills every time i watch this scene. especially at like 2:15-2:18, its just too good

  • I like 0:25-0:43 myself

  • This is the scene I most want to see most when they do all the movies in 3D!

  • tie bombers are the best!

  • Why do the tie fighters sound like Star Destroyers at 2:53 to 2:59?

  • haha never noticed that. Good find!

  • Yeah, that does sound a bit out of place. XD

  • Chewie, go take the professor and plug him into the hyperdrive! (scene missing)

  • Oh C-3PO, you cockblock.

  • try and spot the potato asteroid and the shoe asteroid

  • Han has some big balls man to go into an asteroid field. He is a better pilot than Luke, Anakin, and Obi Wan. He didn't have the force like they did, and still could save Luke to destroy the Death Star and fly into an asteroid field

  • Wedge is the best but im not biased am i? haha

  • Wedge is the best :)

  • Absolutely stunnig even after all those years!

I still haven't seen a flight seen that even gets close to this dispite all those CG technologies today.....

  • I imagine CG will date so badly compared to this. The brilliance of this scene cannot be underestimated. The music works exceptionally well, and along with the tight editing it only adds to the kineticism of the scene (see 3.02 to c. 3.24).

  • It's mostly because sense they have all this new technology, they have a tendency to take it a little too over the top, such as at the beginning of Revenge of the Sith. Too much, but this level of action is just right.

  • Fucking awesome!!!!

  • Why is Hans "Sorry Princess! We havent got time for anything else" scene missing?

  • I like all of the Star Wars films
