Germany should have concentrated more material into the Luftwaffe, ie fighter production, and put less into vengeance weapons like the V1. AA artillery fired 17,000 shots for every kill so was a very expensive waste of time. With a concentration of 3:1 the fighters could always decimate a bomber formation. As for the me 262 it never really worked to its full potential because the exhausts pipes were not chrome lined. What a disaster !
@IvanBeSerious The winners always write the history and ensure their propaganda becomes the official history. There are many films of people of European cities greeting German forces; the fact you dont see these on the " History channel" indicates that those in control today find such facts uncomfortable.Try doing a google video of Petain 1944 and see thousands of Parisians greeting and cheering him.
the fact is: the germans forces a not the same quality like 4 years ago(blitzkrieg in west).the tanks like Tiger,Panther were more heavy and need a lot more of benzin.
Since the bomber raids from the allies against the German Oel- raffineries, the Synthetic hydrogenerate factorys(coal to benzin)in March1944,the total forces suffer under a lack of fuel and operating fluids.
So their must capture the gas/benzin depot in Belgium from the allies.
But their did'nt captures the main depot(like in Spa)
Yeah losses were high, but on both sides. The Allies resupplied the losses, however, and the Germans lost their last troops. There are some moments that German soldiers were too lightly equipped, and German tanks ran out of fuel.
The German air raid in this piece of propaganda was the last gasp of the Luftwaffe. The Germans started it with 200 thousand men, from the eastern front, experienced soldiers, and the Allies closed the gap with 70 thousand men.
Greetings everyone! My name is Tim and I have published a book all about this epic military clash. It is entitled: THE ARDENNES ON FIRE: VOLUME ONE. @hussy747 Odd, I remember reading that the Americans ended up on the Elbe, somewhere pretty far to the east of this battle. Losing your entire country usually means that you are completely defeated. If you like, we could drop a few nuclear bombs on Berlin, if that is what it takes to convince you.
wonder if the same german army during 1940 ardennes attack deploy in battle of bulge 1944 where german had superior number both troops and luftwaffe. Could allies repelled those gigantic attack?
@Jomokb76 Germans in 1940 were inferior in numbers to French and British, though the Luftwaffe was indeed superior. Certainly the inadequate Pz1 and PzII which were used extensively in 1940 would have been ineffective, given that the Panthers and Tigers were unsuccessful.
@Jomokb76 All the Tigers and Panthers were able to do is run out of gas faster than Pz IV. The US army was about 8 million at that time. 6000 luftwaffe? the US send that many heavy bombers across germany on many days, and the British send more across at night. US 99th divison lost men, but at a ratio of 18 german losses to each American. Artillery rounds don't care how many infantry among which it explodes. In 1944 us had airburst fuse, about 10 times as effective as old "superquick" fuse

@Estmann111 you fucken German fool your stinking Wehrmacht was bled to death not by Americans but by the Red Army from 1941 to 1944...Americans and Brits joined the war just to save the Western Europe from communism and save your Germanic barbaric asses from total annihilation by the vengeful Russians...Respect to Germans you got to be kidding those motherfuckers who killed millions of children and women hell no they should have died the most painful death and rot in hell
@LootsEr Obviously a nice little NAZI Afrikana! Whatever ties you relatives had from NAZI Germany I'm sure most of your ancestors are now rotting in South Africa. A good place to run and hide. Fortunately they were completely routed by the allies. The filth were not up to the job in the end. What an ignorant little cunt you are!
@8Desertfox8 ys history says that germans gave a hard time to both americans as well as britishers. in the battle of bulge only thing happened was the German aggression got stopped.
In Villas Bocage a German Tiger tank attacked a column of Brit tanks. The German hero Whitman In three minutes of violence and carnage, some 25 British tanks, half-tracks and assorted light-skinned vehicles were destroyed.
Even when the Axis tanks had 75mm guns they were much better at piercing the armour of the Allied tanks. The Germans had learned that sloping armour was the way forward, when the Sherman was very flat sided by comparison.
My Grandad used to tell me how his tanks guns used to bounce off German tanks and they would destroy his tanks with 1 shot. Why didn't we just copy the Russian T34 design as this did match the Germans in battle.
That 75mm gun was on the Panther with an 18 ft gun tube providing much higher MV. The Panther WAS copied from the T-34, but kept secret from Hitler. Not an easy task to design and produce a better tank when your factories are trying to get anything to the troops on the field. Patton was responsible for continuing with the Sherman when we could have had the M-26 and it's 90mm gun and better armor a year earlier.
I never understand how the Sherman M4 made it into service with a 75mm gun, when the average German tanks had 88mm guns.
It was well known that Allied tanks were so inferior that until we were within 30 metres the shells just bounced off German armour. WHY didn't they just upgrade the gun to a 90mm gun or better. Probably because they can sell more tanks if they kept getting blown up.
George Patton had a lot to do with it. He wanted the best guns for his tank destroyers, which was a failed doctrine from the onset. We could have had the M-26 Pershing in ETO a year earlier had it not been for Patton's insistance that Shermans were sufficient. The only tanks we had that could contend with the heavier German tanks were the M-36 TD and Firefly Sherman. The 76mm Sherman did not live up to expectations and did not have the AP , The M-18 TD had the same gun but better ammo.
@pattoncommander I am 100% convinced they put inferior equipment out in the field as that way they will get destroyed. Then the suppliers will have to supply many more tanks of inferior quality instead of a reasonable number of good tanks that will be able to cope on the battle field.
I know it sounds cynical, but most wars are about the rich getting richer anyway.
Time4change, the average German tank did not carry an 88. The Pz IIIs mounted 37, 50mm short ,or on Ausf L, the long 50mm. The rest had short 75mm howitzers then the Pz IV H and F2 had the long 75mm gun. The Panther had the HV 75mm and the Tiger came in with the 88 then with the King Tiger with the long L-71 88mm. The US and GB had problems with turret ring size for larger guns and BG was stuck with the useless 2 pounder (39mm) for years. Not a business, but only a production problem.
I Don't care what the excuses are. We should NOT have sent our men against tanks that were superior. ANY production problem MUST be sorted before supply to the poor guys that have to die in the machines. My Grandfather was an engineer and he always used to say that the UK engineers could have designed proper competitive tanks etc, it was just that the authorities wouldn't listen, and approve the designs.
It was called bulge because of the shape of the advance on the map!How can you expect anyone to take your comments seriously if you lack so much common sense ?
I know what you say. German just displayed the truth which they had ever done it. On another hand German didnt show how many losses they have. So you just feel the german triumph when you only watch this movie.
Also keep in mind that the British helped the Americans in WW2 and that Americans never went one-on-one by themselves against another country in either World War. Keep that in mind
what is it with you fucking yanks thinking it was all you!! 90% of combat missions the brits and yanks fought together. IT WAS A WORLD WAR NOT AN AMERICAN 1. just remember who was fighting before you got involved and who let you's use our country to mount joint attacks on normandy (D-DAY)
Balny, it might be good if someone would read you some history. Churchill was BEGGING Roosevelt to get into the war and when we were finally pulled in, Churchill renarked :"now we have the war won". It was American production who supplied GB, Russia and France with weapons on on lend lease that won the war. France and GB were fighting with dwindling resources and It was the US ability to manufacture weapons and trucks on both fronts that brought it to the end. Don't be so self centered.
how am i self centred??? i know what america did for the uk (which the debt has now been cleared!!!) my point is we were fighting and stopped the nazi army in france (battle of britain) and helped destroy the nazi army, yet americans think it was their war just because they were in it the last year which europe is greatfull for....... and yeah america helped us a shit load with materials but we PAID for it..........
the americans dont even come close to the german army.. only reason the german army lost was because they ran out of fuel for the battle of the buldge.. second is that all the best german units were on the eastern front outnumbered more than 10 to 1. The americans fighted mostly young boys and old men.. The americans only came to europe when they knew the germans was losing the war against RUSSIA. It was always the Russian army who won the war with their huge numbers in men and meterial.
Maybe you should get rid of Stalin's party propaganda and look at the logistics and history from both sides. Hitler was mainly responsible for the loss, as he refused to listen to his Generals and was immersed in his own psychotic dreams. Then too, Germany had no way to produce needed weapons and could not replace men or machines. US and British bombers destroyed nearly all production. Zhukov and the T-34 won it on the Russian side, with US lend lease US weapons. .
Yeah. . .the Luftwaffe made their last big appearance of the war at the beginning of the Ardennes offensive, and in the process lost about 400 planes !!
As for throwing those resources at the Sovs in the East: Wouldn't have made the slightest difference except maybe prolong the war for a couple of weeks. Wouldn't have had any effect on the final occupation zones. . .those were all decided at Yalta.
Applied defensenly, they could have prolonged the struggle for months and caused far more deaths over time.
The Luftwaffe lost 250 or so aircraft and destroyed or damaged more than 400 allied planes. But the Allies could cope better with such losses than the Germans could at this stage of the war.
Did anyone notice there was no snow on the ground? I am guessing this may have been shot in the fall 1944 instead of Dec 1944. Great historical Nazi archive.
Belgium (Bulge) is not such a cold land. Snow often stays only on areas that are more than 500m high. I think that during the battle of the Bulge, snow appeared only by Xmas time.
from what i hear it was one of the coldest winters ever recorded in that region. that's why the weather was such a factor. it was unusually cold that year.
You're right, I was just answering to someone who noticed that there was no snow on the ground (but you can see some snow at 1:59 and 2:50, for example).
Just concider what would have happened if, the Wehrmacht instead of wasteing its resources in the Ardennes battle, turned all forces to face the Red army. I don't say they would have stood any better chance, but leaving the door open to Berlin for the western allies, would have made trouble for Stalin. Maybe the war would have ended with the iron curtain further east, OR prolonged it, with a few tables turned.. They say Patton wanted to attack the soviets when the germans where defeated...
Hitler shouldn't have alienated the Ukrainians the way he did, if he gave full support to, and integrated Ukraine into the German forces, they could have left the eastern front to them and concentrated on the west.
Still its quite amazing that the Germans could launch any sort of counter-attack at this late stage of the war.Hitler should have surrendered long b4 it came to this.
He would never have surrendered and the nazi propaganda put the german population in a position were defeat was inconceivable. The propaganda had tied together the defeat of national socialism to the destruction of European civilisation as people knew it, it's how they got everyone motivated for war, fear of what would happen if they lost, especially when the war turned against them. Its an eye-opener how some horrific ideologies can root themselves so deeply.
You have to admit, the German propoganda ministry was really good at piling up bull crap!!!!! I just feel sorry for all the poor schleps sitting back in the fatherland watching these movies and thinking that they were really winning the war, what a reality check that must have been...lol
Think of the Germans watching this in Dec '44 hoping that maybe everything will work out OK. Something like Americans watching TV today hoping that Obama will be elected, the war will end, and the government will stop illegally spying on citizens without a warrant.
this is nothing more than nazi propaganda. the offensive did not go as well as this video makes you think. the allies had air superiority not the germans
pure propaganda, surely in the battle of the bulge there were no luftwaffe attacks as a) there were not good enough flying conditions initially and b) the luftwaffe hardly had any planes left!
the krauts caught the US troops by surprise..this particular front was assumed to be so quite that green divisions were sent here to get some low level taste in combat b4 being shipped to where the fighting was heavy..so the elite kraut divisions were confronting cherry US troops
They didn't ultimately win the battle, but they never said so in the documentary either!

Something like Americans watching TV today hoping that Obama will be elected, the war will end, and the government will stop illegally spying on citizens without a warrant.
ronpaul2008rocks 3 years ago 9
@ronpaul2008rocks Obama got elected and America is now worse than under Bush with more spying and more war.
The world is becoming more and more like dictatorship for the rich.

Not many of these German soldiers were able to survive the final months of the war.

pure propaganda, surely in the battle of the bulge there were no luftwaffe attacks as a) there were not good enough flying conditions initially and b) the luftwaffe hardly had any planes left!

Upwards of 900 Luftwaffe aircraft attacked Allied airbases on Jan 1, 1945.

the krauts caught the US troops by surprise..this particular front was assumed to be so quite that green divisions were sent here to get some low level taste in combat b4 being shipped to where the fighting was heavy..so the elite kraut divisions were confronting cherry US troops
