Fucking REDICULOUS. Posting youtube videos with music is doing them a favor, it's promoting, not destroying them. If it was destroying them at all, it's because people find out how badly a CD is before they buy it. In other words, it only hurts them because they can't rip people off, by making them buy a whole CD to listen to one song. If people like it, they will buy it.I ain't even coming to youtube anymore if they do this with every fucking video that has music with a copyright.
We love music! We can't stand by silently while the music industry continues its decades-long effort to lock up our culture! If you think that it sucks that audio had to be disabled here BOYCOTT MUSIC INDUSTRY!

Ah yea gotta make that 5$ on a song thats what almost 20 years old now...
I actually agree with AaronRes. I think RB/GH cheapen the music. It'd be one thing if you were actually playing guitar on the game, but I think the whole "hit the right button" is totally pathetic.
I wonder how good my generation would be at music if they spent the money they used on the GH/RB games alone on a starting guitar and could actually get into it.
It's pretty ridiculous too in some songs where the GH version is way harder than the actual guitar version would be xD
when i got rock band 2, i only got into sonic youth about a month earlier so i was only familiar with their hits and daydream nation, so when i saw that this song was in rock band 2, freaked out
So?! haha just kidding i say that all the time, but really it doesnt matter. who cares how you learn about a new song/band, as long as you like it why not listen to it.
why is the game retarded? What's your problem? The games are fun and for the most part have some great songs on them. Is it commercial because you pay for it, after it cost millions for the companies to make? Despite the fact that nearly every employee in Harmonix is in some sort of independant band I'm sure they're only making the games for the money?
I had never heard Sonic Youth before playing the games because of my age, and after hearing them I went out and got Daydream Nation and Goo and I love them to death. Who cares how you first heard of them, what's important is enjoying the music.
Just because they're in an indie band doesn't mean that they're not making the series just to make money. Actually, that's why their making it.
I think it's alright that someone learns about good bands through guitar hero. I just hate it when people get that one song and never even try to listen to the whole album.
Back when this video came out years ago there was no such concept as youtube so all the video footage dropped in was always so cool to see because it had obviously been culled from the cache of a hip archivist somewhere. I love seeing all the references in this - Harvey Picar , The Birthday Party, Iggy, Patty Smith, Blixa , Minor Threat, Neil Young , Mike Watt , Mark E Smith, Richard Hell , Black Flag , Sun Ra etc. Such a great song, such a great video. One of the greatest bands of all time.
Sister, Evol, and Daydream Nation are most commonly considered the Trifecta of Sonic Youth's greatness, as they capture them at a genious juxtaposition between their early (and late) completely avante garde days, and their later, more grungy commercially acessible albums (Like Dirty). Any era of Sonic Youth is kick ass, though. I'd say start with good 'ol Daydream, as it shines the brightest of all, but you'd be just as satisfied with, oh say, Washing Machine or Confusion is Sex, for example.
If you`re new into Sonic Youth I recommend you to listen to Daydream or Goo first, those are good albums to start, your nickname tells me you speak spanish, I do too, tell me if you liked the albums.
:13 Pussy Galore, :20 Jad Fair, 1:36 KISS (obviously), 1:44 Jack Kerouac, 2:42 Daniel Johnston, 3:00 Mike Watt, 3:26 Nico (but maybe Joni Mitchell?), 3:36 thepinkorient said Tom Waits, but I'm thinking James Chance
Let's play identify the counterculture heroes! (SY members don't count). 0:49 = patti smith 1:12 = Mark e. smith 1:43 = Harvey Pekar 1:56 = Black Flag 2:14 = Sun Ra 2:24 = Iggy Pop (i think) 2:42 = Daniel Johnston Thats all i can get. I think the old dude at 3:31 might be marcel duchamps but i'm not sure. Can anyone get any more?
i was reading through the comments and nobody seems to like washing machine. its a pretty good album. not as good as sister goo or daydream but i think its just as good as evol. and their new stuff doesnt even compare.
i like sonic youth. they put music into a blender and manage to make it sound good. instead of relying on electronic equipment to make their voices sound good, they just let it go through raw. daydream is an epic album.
oh and why is this version 4:16? just cause of the music video version?
not really, but they can be. They are unique and hard to describe, I'd say extreme 'noise rock' meets more convensional rock n roll. Throw some punk and pcychadelic in there and thats a start..Give these albums a try..Daydream Nation, Dirty, Sonic Nurse, Sister.
Try picking up a copy of the album daydream nation, it has the above song, and is a rather spiffing album to boot. Also listen to the songs; Incinerate, Tunic (song for Karen), and Reena.
They aren't a top 10 band, obviously. But check out the albums Daydream Nation, Sister, Sonic Nurse, and Dirty..song 'Candle' '100%' 'Schizophrenia' 'Unmade Bed' 'Empty Page' 'Diamond Sea' 'Dirty Boots' to name a few..

Obviously you don't know anything about the grunge or noise-rock movement, or maybe you don't even know what the word indie means.
If this was in the old days I doubt kurt cobain would enjoy his music on such a retarded game or even this band.
Basically, grunge was against commercialism.
RB/GH are the biggest possible pieces of commercialism I have ever seen.
