our uni is giving its students labview for free to make AUTONOMUS quadcopters, that can correct itself(wind correction mostly) and stay in its path or hover for 10 minutes

This kind of things are roughly introduced in NI LabVIEW Basics I course. This is not all, you will see more fantastic and enjoyable materials during the entire course.

Go take it and you'll see how much LabVIEW can make you more flexible engineer for minimizing cost and maximizing throughput.

There is even a Mac trial version if you click on the link before logging in after you register for free.
