i believe that the government should give huuuuuge tax cuts to everyone, including those companies so that they can meet the changing demand from the people. The government is not the solution to this problem, it's the change in demand of the people as a whole for new energy sources. We can get off most fossil fuels within 20-30 years if we put a concerted effort into solar, wind, fuel cells, electric cars, algae biofuels, and new nuclear technologies.

A barrel floating in the ocean will grow a seaweed farm. It would be easy to create rainforest sized algae farms mid ocean. The seaweed farms would photosynthesis, as well as the lifeforms themselves would be made of carbon.

I read somewhere that this heat wave was the 2nd worst natural disaster in this decade (after the 2004 Tsunami) in terms of fatalities and number of countries affected. We can get off most fossil fuels within 20-30 years if we put a concerted effort into solar, wind, fuel cells, electric cars, algae biofuels, and new nuclear technologies.
We also need a new national smart power grid to move electricity.

A barrel floating in the ocean will grow a seaweed farm. It would be easy to create rainforest sized algae farms mid ocean. The seaweed farms would photosynthesis, as well as the lifeforms themselves would be made of carbon.
Cheap. Proactive. Harmless.
Also mid ocean seaweed (algae) farms could be towed to counties in need for emergency food fuel.
No downside.
Build seaweed farms from shore and tow them out to sea and anchor them. Polluting companies could sponsor the low costs.

After all, the entire north polar icecap, which has been there for most of the last 3 million years, is disappearing before our eyes. Forty percent is already gone. The rest is expected to go completely within the next decade.

Tell me, how would scientists measure the amount of ice that has melted and the rate at which the ice has melted over the past 12,000 years? They can't. However, what they can measure is the decrease in ice volume over the past century. And it is a fact that the arctic has 40% ice than it did 40 years ago.

I live in Portugal and I thought I was going to die that summer in 2003. Steping outside was like going inside an oven. We had temps reaching 48C (118F) and 10% of the forests were destroyed by wildfires. I read somewhere that this heat wave was the 2nd worst natural disaster in this decade (after the 2004 Tsunami) in terms of fatalities and number of countries affected. Unfortunetly it's not as present in people's minds and most people in the US for example dont even know about it. Wonder why.

@diiggas localised warming like you experienced is not global warming infact the southern hemisphere hasnt changed temperature in over 30 years so there has been no such thing as global warming only northern hemisphere warming, plus i didnt say -10 i said below ten moron, if that many people died its their own fault for not being better prepared for that sort of thing you are all ignorant that this sort of thing is natural and happens randomly according to sun activity etc. WAKE UP TO IT!

if the earth warms by six degrees none of this will happen, it will stabilise storms as there will be less imbalance between the hemispheres and the equator, and there will be greater more stable reliable rainfall due to more evaporation leading to much more productive farming, potentially ending hunger! but hey if you want to be fooled into this line of thinking go for it your the one that will look like a fool later in life.

If there is too much CO2 and temperatures rise to much, then the Earth will become a Venus like planet (with water in it's atmosphere, but a barren, scorched land on the surface)
Critical mass refers to a nuclear reaction, and therefore has very little to do with evaporated water.

The only term that I could find relating to your explanation is "Thermal mass", which is the heat energy required to heat a specific substance. Is this the critical mass you speak of?

as for critical mass that was a dumming down for your sake as i have thru much experience found that you pushers are all very poorly educated, the "critical mass" i refer to is the latent heat of vapourisation/liquid due to the very high specific heat capacity of water especially when it has such a large surface area like when in cumulous form, i suggest that you learn things before believing all that is spoon fed to you

Latent heat.... refers to the energy needed for a substance to change form. If the temperature is to high, so that water cannot reach its latent heat required to condense, it will stay evaporated.

Could implies that the consequences can range from worse-than-dire (disastrous) to less-than-dire (horrible).
The exact results are uncertain, but it is obvious that it is happening and it is happening fast.
Starve millions? With the emission tax? The majority of the impoverished wouldn't be affected by a emission tax, as many of them don't have jobs or have agricultural, forestry, or unregistered jobs, therefore they would be affected minimally.

The majority of countries are working towards reducing emissions to combat global warming, therefore so should I.

The UN is a collections of countries, most of which have scientists in them and have research programs.
Some countries have already implemented the emission tax, none of their economies have crashed.
So you think you are much smarter than most people because you don't believe what scientists say? Science has given us everything that we have today, and it will continue to produce amazing advances, so why shouldn't I believe it this time?

at least 95% of scientists believe in Global warming caused (at least in part) by humans. Over 75% of peer reviewed papers agreed with GW, while over 20% take a neutral stance.
Is that enough of a majority to you?
