I bought a copy of this dvd ages ago and have only just had the chance to watch it today and I found it very interesting. I love the cat at the start of the dvd, how did you get it to do that?
How many staff do you have working at the work shop now that Rob Barker has left?
Very interesting, in these small fair/street organs are the pipes allways glued in? I have never seen this done before, does that not cause problems with voicing latter on, for example if dirt gets down into the foot of the pipe?
Yes. As they are travelling instruments it is prudent to glue them in to prevent a heap of pipes on the organ floor on arrival at your destination!
If it is necessary to re-voice a pipe or remove dirt from the foot, it can be removed as the foot is tapered but goes into a straight hole so the glue line is just enough to hold it in place without being permanent. Thanks for your comments. Alan Pell
I always thought the secret life of organ builders was to put on cloaks and dance around like silly ninnies.. I was thoroughly disappointed when I found organ builders could not assemble one merely with their eyes and super human strength..
On a side note, I can tune an organ, but I still cannot tune a fish.
I can really recommend this wonderfull DVD. Got it today and watched it twice. I will change my business and become an organbuilder! Much more fun than arranging!
I hear dizzy fingers playing at 1:21
