If I was from Massachusetts i would be embarrassed of the way Stephan Lynch acted during the testimony. It was like he completely ignored everything that was said or just showed up 30 seconds before his 5 minutes of questioning. The show that he put on is everything that is wrong with American Politics.
Liddy was not responsible for the bonuses and Lynch did not read the contract correctly. Why is that so hard for this idiot Lynch to understand. What a joke. Who votes for these people?
He is an AIG Executive that entered management AFTER this whole thing started. He is getting paid nothing to try and unscrew the business. Just because he works for AIG does not mean he is the Evil Executive that everyone who watches CNN thinks he is.
Some of you are not understanding what's in the video. Mr. Liddy was not the guy responsible for putting this contract together because he wasn't even on board when this contract was written up. Too bad he inherited the AIG problem and had to take heat for it.
As a Lynch myself, I am very proud today...Why can't British politicians be like this? Wonderful entertainment, though I doubt anything will change because of it, sadly. Well done Stephen!
Well done Stephen? I'm not sure you understood the exchange. Mr. Lynch, who touted himself a contract lawyer didn't even interpret the contract correctly. As stated by Libby "It applies to the payment to the annual performance bonus NOT to the retention" in which Libby stated a second time "No performance bonuses were give". The other false accusation by Mr. Lynch was that Libby put the contract together. Ultimately Mr. Lynch conceded by stating my time is up. The CEO dominated that exchange.
He said his time was up not to concede anything, but because his time was indeed up. Nothing was concluded during the exchange, but my point was the passion and vigour with which Lynch argued - it was genuine and emotional and whatever the rights and wrongs of the particular minutiae of this specific matter, I admired his passion in holding the generic bunch of crooks to account. Maybe Libby is a great guy with good intentions, but he's there to answer for a historically corrupt organisation.
It looks like we share a difference of opinion. In the discussion of argument and counter argument, Mr. Libby ended it by making a very important correction to Steve Lynch's assertions about the wording of the contract. If Mr. Lynch was really accurate and passionate about his argument, I'm sure he'd not have elected his time up so easily. I agree with you on corruption in our financial sector. I also know equal if not more corruption exists in Congress. Beware of the wolf in sheep's clothing.
You may be right, but it was still enjoyable! And I also agree that the entire leadership of the entire world is corrupt in all sectors. Not to make a sweeping generalisation or anything, but...
...that's largely why we need more people like Lynch to argue for the common man, who has no say as billions of dollars/pounds are robbed from him to pay for fatcats with vested short term interests. I'm not saying he's immune, but I get the impression he's there to represent his constituents. Libby defended his own personal position well (no doubt he's had plenty of practice), but I'd rather have a beer with Lynch!
why isnt barney frank being questioned, why isnt chris dodd being questioned about who they chose to give money to and why they didnt address this issue then...
"MUTBERGAWD! Mr Liddy, What kind of CAH did you drive to the BAH today sir. Becoz my GUVNAH, in the great state of MASS tells me, that my people can't afford a boll of CHOWDAH let alone a bailout."
"what i see happening to $200billion of innocent taxpayers...i have people in my district who don't have a 401k. they're out there working everyday for a fixed wage. and yet they, and their sons and daughters and grandchildren, and great grandchildren are going to have to pay the freight here. they don't have anything to do with wall street."
YOU HAD A RESPONSIBILITY TO YOUR CONSTITUENTS TO KNO WHO AND WHAT YOU WERE SIGNING TRILLIONS OVER TO
You're correct - Steve Lynch did vote against it. Even though, it doesn't take away how uninformed and off base his statements were towards Mr. Liddy. Either Steve Lynch was merely grandstanding or he was uninformed about the AIG situation. Either way, this is an example of a Senator not doing is job as promised to the people who voted for him.
No I'm clearly stating that Lynch was wrong and Liddy needed to help him understand the contract stipulation on bonuses.
The topic is not about the actions taken by AIG that helped produce the economic crises. It is about a self professed contract lawyer not understanding the bonus agreement within the contract that he was debating. The bonus clause that Lynch barked about for 5 minutes were never issued since they were performance based. It was an embarrassing moment for a senator.
CONGRESS created this debacle. CONGRESS enabled it to continue, & CONGRESS failed in their responsibility to oversee the disasters it created. Why arent you all testifying on why you allowed an 800 billion dollar bill to pass without READING it? Why isnt chris conflict of interest dodd testifying on his cronyism tactics that allowed these bonuses to begin with? Liars. Losers. Criminals. Fail. More brain tumors in DC please! Thats the only way to get rid of these parasites it seems.
God, we should lock up every single Representative and Senator who voted for this bailout. They should be put in maximum-security prisons for life with no parole. They are thieves and have STOLEN OUR MONEY ILLEGALLY. Pelosi, you are a criminal and a traitor and you and the rest should be jailed for life. Wake up California, vote this woman out before she crowns herself Queen.
The American public is being robbed by Congress and their cohorts. We don't believe in you Nancy.. not anymore. Step aside. Let a real citizen take over. One that cares about the working class people.
how about liddy refusing to name the 20 or so people in AIG who bankrupted the firm

again, instead of blanket comments of blame, check the facts. Lynch was against this bail out for the start. look it up.
