  • stupid android

  • @jake151525 shut up ifag fanboy

  • Introducing, The motherfucking Iphone raper*.

  • I agree at all. The open source gives Android lots of advantages. For example: developers can learn and share knowledge faster/cheaper than at any other platform, users will have much more apps/widgets for low cost or even for free. Lastly, all the mobile companies would want to install it as their default platform because more people would want to have an Android cellphone/tablet.

  • one thing i need... Behold ll ADB drivers for Win7 64bit

  • OK if u have perfect vision. Android sucks for the visually impaired folks. If you wear glasses buy iphone or BB. You will be able to read the screen without having to reach for glasses 100 times a day.ALL android phones have TINY TINY text and no way to enlarge it. iphone & BB care about the visually impaired & allow system wide font size large/exlarge etc, Android don't give a rat's ass for the visually impaired Complaints for 2 years fall on death ears, Google research it. It's the TRUTH

  • @skjoyner That's not true.

  • Steve Jobbs for President.

  • Apple is responsible for bringing us the user interface that all are computers run on. So show some respect.

  • Gee, I thought it was Xerox.

  • Yes, it was Steve that brought those theories into practice. He pushed the technology of the time so hard, that it cost him his early career with apple. I guess that you will not appreciate that because you are one of those negative types. That is why you had to reply to my comments.

  • If you want to really start at the beginning. Then we should go back to Nikola Tesla, who is practically responsible for every electronic device around us. The guy was a super genius of biblical proportion.

  • Are way of life is the cause and effect of thousands of years of political and technological evolution. Genetically we are no different then humans that walked the earth eighty-thousand years ago.

  • I'm sorry, politically we have not evolved in over two hundred years. We are actually devolving into collectivism.

  • @ah164 Xerox kept it in the closet. Use it or lose it, that is what I always say!

  • @orbithesun1 Apple is not responsible for "the user interface that all OUR (not are) computers run on" as there are a load more Microsoft Windows computers than Macs.

Don't get me wrong, the iPhone is a nice phone with some really good features but also some really poor ones. It's not the God phone it claims to be, it's just very cleverly marketed. Don't believe all the "it's so shiny" hype.

Android phones have much more potential long term

  • @mancmanomyst Apple introduced the GUI operating system in the early eighties, with their Lisa computer and later with the Mac.

  • @orbithesun1 the lisa computer also cost 10k and was a complete disaster. Progression from command line to GUI was inevitable once hardware was capable of rendering graphics well. the lisa has nothing to do with the iphone and nothing to do with android. try making your posts more relevant to the topic. if you want to go back as far as the 80s then you may as well start with the first ever modern computer, the Manchester Baby

  • @orbithesun1 Android OS was incorporated in 2003. That's over a year before Apple even began the 30mo development cycle of iPod touch screen phone. That's when they first hired a Touch Screen Engineer. Android OS was a complete ground up development specifically meant for Touch Screen Phones w/ (as Rubin in 2003) a users personal preferences & LOCATION AWARENESS features built in before Apple only ported OS-X derivative OS. Google buys in 2005. Android will FINISH First! :D

    iNazis are Idiots!

  • @kroneage I am not a iSocialist, I am a iLibraterian. Live free or die!

  • @orbithesun1 this is not true either. Xerox Alto was the first computer to have a GUI. Apple was the first to bring that to the masses.

  • @momchil84 You are not looking at the big picture. Just see what Apple has done with those concepts and how Xerox neglected it's potential.

  • Apple has a history of quality first.

  • The only reason Apple is strict about its platform. Is to maintain quality control.

  • They are trying to reinvent the iphone. I love how they act like they are making something new, What bunch of crooks.

  • What do you think about Tap Tap KEYBOARD for Android ?

  • lol.. fake laughter at the end

  • You're assuming that this marketing is targeted towards end users, and that Android and the iPhone compete it's not, and they don't. Android is trying to get developer and handset manufacturer interest from people that would develop for, or base their devices on Windows Mobile.

  • Incorrect. Firefox started out exactly like this. It took the market slowly and steadily by being better. Being completely open source is a HUGE attraction to developers. The target market will slowly make use of it as word of mouth spreads. When everyone around you is telling you how much better a product is, you give it a try. When you realise it's a million times better, you stick with it.

  • Well I wasn't a geek before, but I've completely converted now. They have floored me. To the point of switching my Bachelor's from a Philosophy to a Computing one. Fwar. Love them.

  • yey opensource! no more backdoors.

  • please dont take this the wrong way but is andy the dog at thye begining of the video ? who helped make android he must be a very clever doggy :O :O :D!!

  • apple have already accomplished that with iphone

  • Yh in 2007? Use your balls.

  • no visible progress since then. projects fails obviously.

  • Apple has not created a unified open platform. They created a proprietary closed one.

Android is up and coming this year and next.

  • ok. :)

I shouldn't have commented here before i learnt more about android. news about it running flash on some htc device (or some other, not sure) surprised me a lot. flash on a mobile desvice is big news and achievement

  • Well, I think most devices will get that pretty soon. Apple included.

What really makes android great is that the UI is as good as the iPhone in most areas and better in some (the notification bar). It has huge advantages such as multitasking. Also its open source. That means that we will see many different UIs (like the hero) on a ton of different hardware from small non touch devices, to anything on the top of the line. And you'll be able to modify quite abit to your liking.

  • Android is behind iPhone on available apps right now, but that will change. With the Android Developer Challenge coming up there will be a bump in great apps.

Android also has none of the restrictions that the app store has. Also, heaps of developers already know how to code java (witch android uses). I've read developers saying that coding for the iPhone is alot more cumbersome and more expensive. And apps (like Spotify or any instant messaging app) that get a lot better with multitasking.

  • Android isn't nice looking though. Apple's design will (and already does) most certainly be customers' choice. From what I've seen android is pretty dull looking. Mobile phone is more of an image (style) attribute that is why android will never outscore iphone unless they get a shiny slick interface.far.

  • I think the looks of the UI on android is almost identical to the iPhone. What exactly makes you think iPhone looks better? It may be marginally slicker, but I just dont see the big difference.

And for the design of the device, Android will have something for everyone within this year. And that is a much larger market then what iPhone has at its feet I think.

I see the win98 vs MacOS x analogy if you're talking about windows mobile and symbian, but Android? Really?

  • As for the comparison -- I meant differences in desktop OS.

Android looks pretty much like any Linux OS... Not an 'eyecandy' sure thing.

But there's one important aspect I didn't mention before. Android can be used with some joystick, and keypad present in many smartphones. That is why android's interface can't be fully compared to that of an iPhone. In my humble opinion iPhone still rules. Just because of the the design and some interface features. That is my opinion as an interface designer.

  • Functionality is important for geeks like me or you I guess. But for most people phones are just for calling, messaging, occasional photos and some music. But even for a geek like me iphone's shiny interface is something i just can't trade for any functionality.

Android vs iPhone is like windows 98 vs Mac OS X . That's my impression so

  • They have a combination of shared and proprietary source.

    They use parts of FreeBSD.

  • OMG The apps I want are on a closed proprietary platform! I'm going to go to the open platform that doesn't have the apps I want...

    That will show them!

  • Sure, iPhone has more apps now, but that wont last for long.

And important apps like Spotify are worthless without multitasking.

  • It's a 3.5" screen how much multi-tasking can you effectively have? This is why you guys are so clueless! People want a phone that does Communications and Messaging very well and everything else is gravy. The iPhone does that! Trying to make an argument that because you can't run this wile running this and watching porn at the same time is a red herring! iPhone nails the most desired features and yeah its not perfect at everything else...but Android is just meh!

  • Heard of alt-tab? Yeah, thats how. And being able to listen to spotify while doing ANYTHING can be said to be a feature that "people" want. That Andoird is "meh" is your humble opinion. And Im not for android for other people, if for android for me. And its success will benefit me.

  • I'm not sure "multi-tasking" is really the issue per se, but it does enable applications to run in the background (e.g. updating information made available through the apps on your phone, doing incremental backups of your precious data, etc.) WHILE you are IM'ing a continuous stream of LOLs to your friends.

Clueless? Perhaps, but it's probably not the folks at Google.

  • @vorjay when someone talks about multi-tasking on a mobile they're not talking about seeing two screens on the same device, they mean the device can perform background tasks like play songs while you're browsing the net.

This video is really for developers. The iPhone is a pretty poor platform to develop for. For example, if an app uses up all your system memory the iPhone will just reboot. Android is far more intelligent and swaps things in and out of memory.

    iPhone is all about marketting

  • @mancmanomyst iphone os 4.0 ever hear of it?

  • @vorjay iphone will never be open. FACE IT

  • @Youpartyte lol who said I wanted it to be open? I really hope Apple bans more apps... ban them for wasting battery life, ban them for being of poor quality, ban them for having poor aesthetic, etc.

  • @vorjay lol don't blame battery life

  • @vorjay yes, it has basic multi-threading. congratulations iPhone - you've just introduced a feature that was available on windows mobile and android from the beginning.

You're arguments are weak because you don't understand the difference between an mobile operating system platform and a phone. you criticise android because of a "3.5 inch screen" but android is an platform. you will find iPhone OS doesn't have a screen. iPhone is way over-hyped for what it is

  • Can android be installed on an LG Cookie?

  • is there alarm, fm, movie player, organizer???

  • ok. erm no FM. but yes all the rest is in the app store/market and preinstalled.

  • if crappy OS gimmick like the iphone can cause such a stir i don't see why this one couldn't

  • android need publicity more and of good quañlity ok for that iphone is n 1 in the worl soorry for android bye is only coment and my opinion ok

  • I have gone through many phones in the last couple of years. The second Sidekick, then to a Blackberry, and finally to 2 PDAs with Windows Mobile in them.

Sidekicks are mediocre. Blackberries lack QWERTY and touch-screen and just over-all lacks good design most of the time. And Windows Mobile PDAs just get SO damb slow. Plus the available downloaded programs for them are mediocre.

But THIS open-source idea with Android IS the future. And if you can't already tell, you must be an imbecile.

  • If you're asking Google employees on the record what they think of Android when their job depends on them saying "It's GREAT", the answer you will get is "It's GREAT".

You should ask random people, and an introduction should show the actual product at some point....

  • understand wife's thoughts..... muhahah

  • I WANT THE DOG LOL

  • Can't say that I'm really thrilled with what I have seen or heard about android. I hope a good structure is set for developers, I've had a Windows Mobile for several years (1, for the apps, and 2 because the blackberrys looked crap). But boy have I regretted those years!! The software that was created for it was no better, alot of memory leaks which just made the phone sluggish, very sluggish. I hope developers understand what a mobile platform means, (quick, short and sharp).

  • Hey guys, although everyone in the software world understands why an open platform for cellphones is a great idea, most people are not IN the software world, capiche?

If you are going to post a video about cellphones, you need to speak potential buyesr of the cellphones. THE PUBLIC!!

I understand that there won't be a single prototype, but start talking about the kinds of cool functions that don't exist today, that could be built tomorrow. Not this idiocy about reading your wife's mind.

  • Open source means it can do whatever people can make for it. There ARE NO specifics to talk about. Anything goes, and anything is too broad a category to pick just one app to talk about.

The public won't give a fuck until developers start making apps, and the developers won't care if they don't hear about the SDK. This is for them, so nobody cares if you don't get it. But trust me, it IS something to get excited about.

  • Sorry dingus, this isn't even 'for developers' because it doesn't mention a word about the SDK, the capabilities of Android, where to get the SDK, early prototype apps, ease of development, chipsets, or anything else a developer would want to know. I support Android, and open source platforms, and my feedback was directed to the people who made this video, not to a dingus like you who didn't read the feedback before spewing. Cheers.

  • Meh, you're cute.

  • This video is aimed at the blogosphere rather than end users though. The iPhone is still new as far as mainstream users are concerned, most of them haven't even heard of Android yet.

  • QUESTION: Will Android have it's own 3D API like M3G in J2ME, or only OpenGL ES?

  • I want to see a prototype phone. Please give me something to look forward to. Or I'm getting an iphone.

  • the rumor has it that T-Mobile will be among the first to release a phone with this platform some time in the middle of '08.

  • Wow, "my taxes". Classic.

  • this video makes sense, but alot of random thrown in. robots, my taxes, some dog?

  • Is this another product to come out of the 20% do what you want time they offer to Google employees?

  • OMG LOL, steve horowitz looks ALOT like steve jobs

  • they are fucking clone bots brought by Martians

  • wait i'm confused, which one is the android again? they all look very lifelike...

  • hahah!! good one! =)

but "Android" is actually the name of a software development kit that they are distributing freely to world =)

  • im sorry but this makes no sence. android/gphone/robots.. what on earth are they talking about??!?!

  • They are talking about a platform that can be used to build a cellphone.

It's basicly the software part of a phone that is what you interact with.

This video is more of a preview for developers. So it's really just a one part of a cellphone.

  • @headbulb to be honest I would do a better operating system so simple please leave the business and technology innovation which is what inport

  • =D /

  • wow a bunch or geeks talking this rules!

  • yadayadayada... a symbian (or windowsmobile) clone but "opensource", of course open source and a blocked phone really make a nonsense.

  • hmmm they'll have something more in like 4 days... Imma go buy a new phone now :)

  • I'm really looking forward to it.

Google coming up with an open platform for the mobile phone is a great stratigical step.

  • *strategical

  • WTF is it Google? We get the idea - open, innovation, catalysts, bla, bla, bla - now some examples for us programmers, you know the ones who actually might be using this stuff.

  • Well, that told me nothing. I appreciate the effort of a multi-billion dollar company trying its best to make a little movie "fun" with a mascot and everything, but really, a little technical detail would be lovely.

  • If you cannot make a logical arguement without mentioning the Bible, don't. Not everyone believes in your myths.

  • "AZ YOU CAN ZEE, i LEIK ROBOTS" uh...okay wow.

  • Digital short, Marijuana Paranoia

  • Why the hell is this one of the most viewed videos? It's a fucking commercial basically. FOR SHAME YOUTUBE FOR SHAME. At least just comment bashing it like I am. LAWL ROBOTS! FUCK OFF!

  • because google owns youtube and can do whatever the fuck they want with it

  • Well gosh, using your portal site to advertise a new offering would be considered 'evil' by quite a few people. Good thing evil is such a fluid concept and tough to pin down eh? BTW I watched this and still have no clue what Android is.

  • That was lame. I hate you

  • Introducing: Tommy and Keith

  • haha what are they talking about? & yes I do understand English, at least I thought I could LOL

  • open IS good. right on.

  • haha love the random dog on a stool

  • Nice nameplate banner Google ROFL what is that a JPEG saved in paint?

  • HAHAHA

  • This is BS. It is not secure! We don't want the same mess with our phone data that we have with our computers on the itnernet. "All applications are equal ?" Yeah right, i look forward to my GPS location, adress book and phone number being shared with everyone -.-.

How about you use J2ME like any decent phone manufacturer instead of your own device designed to further Google's monopoly.
