@neuewelleguy21 - twas a matter of timing I guess! When I was 13 or so I saw Cream's goodbye tour, the 'opening' acts included Vanilla Fudge, Spirit, and Led Zeppeilin promoting their first album!
But Procal Harum never seemed to make it to Denver, not that I remember anyway, I certainly woulda gone to see them if'n i had the chance
By the way, the ticket prices for the good bye tour ranged from 4 to 6 dollars!! LOL HEHEHE
its amazing when you think that they did this song in 1968, the world was at the knees of psychadelia and procol harum came out with one of the most amazing pieces of heavy rock/prog rock/symphonic music ever made, amazing band
Saw PH yesterday in Hagen/Germany. Still deeply moved. The Commander Himself, Mr. Gary Brooker, on stage .... Saw him in 1976 and never believed I'd ever see him again. Great experience!
Well, today's music has just gotten wider, you have what's shamefully considered commercial nowadays, but that's modern society's fault. However, if you start digging you will find a large amount of underground bands that have such passion for what they do and are still able to produce amazing music out there! (not to mention the obvious technology advances which allow much smoother recording). All in all, I say there's still hope for music but the commercial society should learn to value it.
A masterpiece of lyrics, music, and atmosphere all coming together to create a series of monologues, insights, and just plain great music. I had to buy the "Shine on Brightly" album just to get this song.
i was 6 when this came out and it was one of my favorite songs....what the hell man hahah...

I saw them 3 times in Denver. twice at the Coliseum and about 15 years later at Fiddler's Green

Sounds like this song inspired certain sections of The Wall by Pink Floyd.

For me it sounds closer to Pink Floyd's Wall! Maybe Bohemian R. was infl. But the whole Package sound better imho by Queen. Freddie rocks!
Long live PH!

Yes, live performing with a philarmonic orchestra in background. Not like a beamstock, isn't it?

It's a shame that this band is only known for "A Whiter Shade of Pale" and "Conquistador".

True, not bad songs, and I also think this is their best!
The lyrics is genious...
And make you wonder what's it's all about....

@westpalmscott - No other rock band ever sounded this good, and probably never will
You could just leave it at that.
Not Moodies, nor Led, or Pink (they come closest) nor any other.
If someone argues with this opinion, they haven't heard this!
