It's been ages since I've played it but if I recall correctly, there was a list of booknames at some point in the game. These books were in a library and all had a certain symbol on them. These symbols corresponded with the ones on the dial.
Though I might be completely wrong, it's been over a year. :D
This is one of those confusing point and click adventure games. You're told to do one thing, but then you backstab for the other team. On top of that, this whole dark chemistry thing they have going feels like it would take hours for the uninformed to figure out. Maybe this is why I never really got into them, they have a few jokes, but some are just riddled with what the great Yahtzee calls "Moon Logic."
It's especially great fun to figure out that, because the red drink is a "diet" soda you have to undiet it before you can use it, that was absolutely great fun to figure out. ;-;

The turning dials to get rid of the ghost fountain took me forever to get through, and i still don't know how it works.
