As a Flyers fan, I do feel Pittsburgh's pain, losing this cool arena! We lost our Spectrum this winter..along with a ton of memories. Just a dirt field, planning some type of monstrosity - eventually - its put on hold with the sh-t economy.
@ThatGuyFromPhilly yeah they're supposed to build housing and shops where Mellon is. both arenas are gorgeous but there's just something about the old ones, they have more character and memories. also, congrats to the Flyers on making it to the finals last year. after the Pens lost, I was rooting for them because we know all too well how it feels to come so close and lose. i respect the flyers A LOT. they have a great group of players. Briere is incredible.
@ThatGuyFromPhilly, wish they would of at least replaced the Spectrum with a smaller more cost efficient arena like the Liacouras Center up at Temple so we didn't lose the Phantoms (among other things). But no, they replace it with overpriced "shops and bars", very original.
its 1961- Present. That old place is putting up a fight on the way down

Well, the Civic Arena was the last standing piece of my childhood in the city...and now it's going away. I guess now I'm officially and old man.
