I just saw your recipe yesterday and made them they tasted great my son said they taste like India i will be making them today again for my friends and family thank you
Thank You Manjula Aunty! I am a thirty years old guy from Pakistan. Naan khatai has been my favourite cookie and I always wondered how it's made. Then finally, I'm really glad I found You here. It's fantastic, You made it look so simple and easy. I did try it today but it was that easy to make it for me as it looked, obviously because I have no baking experience whatsoever. The Dough turned out to be a little more sticky and I had to use some whole wheat flour in the end to make it firm.
m makig naan khatai but aunty i did as u said but my dough is so dry even i tried again with more soft butter but its happin again,at last i make bools with difficulty n waiting how thy cum out but let me know y its happin.
Hi aunty, your recipe is very good. But as u said that we need to preheat the oven upto 350 c, but in my oven the maximum temp is 250 c. So, how can i adjust it?
wow manjula jee..this is the first nan khatia recipe that i have seen which has gram flour in it...i wanted to kno hw these taste? as besan pakorey wala flavor tou nhn dai ga?
Hi Manjula ji, I m a greate fan of ur cooking, I tried to prepare it. I preheated oven at 375 degree, but when i put naankhatai in oven, after 7-8 min. naankhatai starts burning from bottom side. And naankhatai does not look prepared from the top side.
@yojnarastogi Hey Yojna if you are using a oven with Celsius temp setting then set your temperature 190 Celsius (the equivalent of 375 Fahrenheit). If that is not the case then reduce the temp and place the baking sheet closer to the top of the oven.
Hello Mrs.Manjula, i backed the nankatai but afer baking it bacame powder as we start touching i dont know what went wrong can we subsititude butter with dalda? do we have to use slightly roasted suji and gramflour?
Hey Auntie.. Thanks for the wonderful recipe... I just tried it out.. and it turned out to be yumm.. But still I would like to know is there a way where in I can make it without using Gram Flour???
Hey manjula aunty ...i tried ur recipe....the cookies came out fantastic......but some how my cookies were not flattened as urs......anyways thx for the recipe
Ummm, ummm!! Wonderful nan khatais. Brings back my child hood memories, when my Mom used to make the dough and send it to the bakers for baking. Thank you for the recipe.
Good morning Manjula. I tried to make your nan katai biscuits yesterday. It took a while but the results were great. I doubled the amount. I also tried a few slightly different versions based on VahChef's recipe too, by adding cocoa powder and a touch of milk to make cocoa versions, and also adding more almonds and pistachio in the main biscuit mix in addition to the garnish on top. The biscuits need to be fairly spaced apart on the baking tray to allow for expansion. Thanks for posting:)
Those look delicious! Where can I find these other types of flour like graham flour and semolina? Does the cookie taste similar to shortbread cookies?
@kokonutbaby1 : This is not Graham flour, but gram flour also known as chickpea flour... and semolina is nothing but coarse wheat... you can find them in any indian/pakistani or asian store
hello aunty can i make it in microwave ? and i do not have that cookie sheet. is there any substitute of it ? reply plz.... thanks for sharing yummy & mouth watering recipes...
@queenbunny76 Its also called Chickpea Flour or "Besan " In Hindi n is available from all Indian grocery stores. Also buy the fine ground version as some places have a coarser ground, not suitable for this recipe.Hope it helps.
Hey Manjula Aunti, u are really genius and doing a great job. I have made your nan khataies no. of times and they turn out very delicious and yummy every time. everyone who tastes those is speechless and full of all the appreciation and applause for the same. I am also a great fan of your great cooking and your style nature is also very calm, cool and lovely. I LIKE U VERY MUCH. Loads of thanks and all the gud wishes for your future recipesto go...................
hi i have a few questions is baking powder and baking soda same .......or is it that u r saying abt soda bi carb and the other thing i wanted to ask what if we do not have this 375degree in our oven max is 220 can u plz guide thank u
@ostwaltwinkle Hi, sorry cudn't help answering ur questions.Baking powder n Soda bi carb is diff.Soda bi carb is also called baking soda.SO make sure u use what the recipe says. Also the temp in USA is in Fahrenheit.SO it is 375 degree fahrenheit.WHen converted to degree celisius, its about 190.Tht's the temp u shud use in ur oven.375 celsius will burn food rt away.So it does not exist on our ovens where celsius is used.
I just made this Manjula auntie and its very very goooood!..thank you for such a nice recipe..i tried vahchef's recipe too but it wasn't as good at this... this is just lovely...!
your cookies was good looking. one day i start to make this cookies but, i could not understand what was the seconed flour you show after semolin. so i did it with out it just to see if it will works. You know what happened after backing i put all in garbage.
Can you please explaine what is the seconed flour after semolin. Thanks
@indiangirl1976 Yes Sooji can go bad if its got moisture or anything in it or is kept for a very long time. It even emits stale smell after storing for very long.
Hello Manjula Aunty, I have started following your recispe.. and I am very happy.. got lot of complements from family and friends (specially from my husband) Many thanks aunty :)
But when i made nankhatai.. my all cookies got spread on the sheet.. when i took it out of the oven it was one single thin layer on the sheet.. what could be the reason?... the oven temperature or I might have over whipped it?

Is there a substitute for gram flour? I have not been able to find it in the stores in my city. I have read many recipes that call for it and am so far disappointed in my search for this ingredient. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Could make your own by grinding dry chickpeas in a blender, but that would be really hard on the machine. All I can think of doing is adding something very sticky, she uses it for an egg replacer, you could honestly add an egg and half as much all purp flour as besan. I'm a vegan and I don't want to make Manjula mad, but an egg would be about the only thing that could do the trick.
This is the best Nan Khatai I have ever tasted in my life & I am so happy as it's made by me. All thanks to Manjula aunty. I was searching for a simple egg less recipe for todays Raksha Bandhan function. I found it 2 hrs back & its so easy that I made 24 nan khatais, eat 2 & now posting this comment here. Thanks again for making our day so sweet!
oyey hoey i am going to the kitchen to make this just now let you knwo how they turned up ,,:) if they dont come out nicely then i will go to the shop and get them !lol
namastey auntiji....could u pls make a video for how to make besan seerni......i think u know abt it, its mostly made in weddings with sakarparas, its made with besan with sugar coating.....its a munchie
My mom's friend always baked these and I want to try making them now. I found your instruction easy to follow. Can't wait to make these this weekend!! I am excited !
Wow! My Naniji used to pack box loads of these things for me whenever I'd come over to her place during the summer holidays. This time I'll surprise her by making these myself! Thanks, Manjulaji!
your recipes are just great and all you make are so delisouse. Also I like the way you explain how to prepair the stuff. By the way we are from Iraq and I decided to turn to indian food and sweet to change our tooth taste. Your just doing great keep going and hope you make a book one day.
i tried ur recipe, the was not soft like yours, but still cookies spread leaving butter in the plate.i have microwave,i can't preheat it.i kept cookies 5min on one side,5min on other side.all burnt.advice
Hello...I tried out this recipe today but the biscuits turned out to be too soft and were breaking when I was trying to take them out of the sheet....the taste was wonderful though...how can I make sure that I get the right texture?
As i told u before i did try it out and as i saw a comment that it turned out disastrous i was little scared. anyways without expectations i tried it out and to my pleasant surprise it turned out very well.
I tried your recipe but unfortunately turned out to be disastrous. Looks like butter was too much perhaps; i had a bar of butter of 500 gms. I used little less than 2/3rds of it. I had to add lots of fluors again to make it a stiffer dough. after 5 mins of baking it bacame almost flat and all pieces stuck to one another and was a big single pc. at the end. Can you suggest what kud have gone wrong?
I wanted to thank you for the wonderful recipe that you have provided for Nan Khatai- My mom made it today and it was simply delicious- We watch all your shows :) Thankssss! You are the best
I came across your videos by chance & now am a regular visitor.Your recipes are really good ,simple & delicious. I tried your Naan Khatai yesterday ..it was a big hit ... It was my first ever biscuit.Thank u very much .I used corn flour instead of sooji as i dont get sooji where i live.
Can you please tell some more eggless biscuits recipes....
I just prepared nan khatai and it turned out greattt !!! My husband loved it.. thank you so much aunty for the wonderful recipe.. Happy Diwali to you and your family..

Hello...I tried out this recipe today but the biscuits turned out to be too soft and were breaking when I was trying to take them out of the sheet....the taste was wonderful though...how can I make sure that I get the right texture?
videos777 3 years ago
1. leave them on sheet for 30 mins to cool down before removing.
2. remove from sheet b sliding off movement.

hi manjulaji,
As i told u before i did try it out and as i saw a comment that it turned out disastrous i was little scared. anyways without expectations i tried it out and to my pleasant surprise it turned out very well.
tradveena 3 years ago
i am off to try it manjulaji..!let me comment back how it turned our;)
tradveena 3 years ago
Dear Manjulaji
I tried your recipe but unfortunately turned out to be disastrous. Looks like butter was too much perhaps; i had a bar of butter of 500 gms. I used little less than 2/3rds of it. I had to add lots of fluors again to make it a stiffer dough. after 5 mins of baking it bacame almost flat and all pieces stuck to one another and was a big single pc. at the end. Can you suggest what kud have gone wrong?
vidyapai77 3 years ago
you need 112 grams of butter. Also make sure that your cookie sheet is thick, I think.
