I also remember that at this time, Johnny Gill was the newest member of New Edition and had not yet sang as a lead vocal on their songs. This was the song that he was given and he didn't like it. He protested this song being his "breakout" song. He reluctantly did it and it turned out to be one of N.E.'s greatest songs ever.

I was at the end of my teen years or the beginning of my twenty's, serving in the Navy when this song came out. I would constantly rewind the tape and play it so much that I went through many sets of batteries and for my walkman and the tape finally unraveled and came out. LOL! He did, but he wanted to mess this song up by oversinging at the end so it wouldn't make the record.
