  • I like how they all had a grip. How did people edit their home made movies in the 70s and stuff? I always wanted to know

  • where did you buy this from? i really want this camera

  • @SpaceAgeNinja Kodak does sell the film for this, you'd need to check which company could process/telecine etc but if you're in the states you're in luck because you have quite a few companies there.

  • Do you think I can just get the lens I don't have?

  • @zapperz2 Maybe check eBay, I have the Tele lens, but I'd love the Wide that canon made for this in the 70's, although I probably won't use this too much so maybe I don't really need.

  • ...Super 8, This is fun but probably the most expensive way to shoot, you're looking at around $50 per roll (3 mins of film) so it's not something you can sustain, it looks good used sparingly in projects I like the look as an alternative shoot low quality video on a point and shoot camera and degrade it black and white in something like magic bullet, add some scratches and burns etc, looks fine, super 8 looks beautiful but it's too expensive, sure the camera will cost next to nothing.

  • @bobcranehomevids No iPhone cam match Super8 scanned in HD. Not possible. Super8 is expensive, but it is a filmmaking tool that is rewarding when used correctly. i am doing three Super8 shorts right now, in addition to the HD shorts I am shooting.

  • @msp1518 yeah you're right it's beautiful, I wouldn't want to shoot anything completely in super8 now maybe a 2 sec clip here and there in an intro like what they've done for the credits to shows like "Justified, True Blood, Millennium etc but I wouldn't want to rely on it for a feature too expensive and a gamble whether or not you lose some scenes in process, hanging on to old technology gets super expensive like hanging onto an old car (unless it's a classic) sooner or later you have to moveon

  • @msp1518 No doubt about. Unfortunately, Super8 is insanely expensive. So $16 a roll times 10 rolls = $160. Plus processing and prep for telecine = $165. Add $25 to ship the negatives to Lightpress.tv for 1080p scan (lightpress is one of the best) at a discounted rate of $600 and you have $950! So a grand, which could have been spent buying a T2i or 60D. Major ouch. I won't do this again. Can't afford to. But I do hope it turned out okay. Wish I had deep pockets to keep shooting.

  • @msp1518 I totally agree, it looks great but too expensive, I just got 6 rolls back cost around £50 each with telecine etc, so as much as I like the look and the silence it's too "golf" for me, ie a rich mans sport.

  • @bobcranehomevids Hey, the footage I got back from Lightpress was the bomb.Absolutely stunning. Cost me an arm and a leg to shoot Super8, but for the project in questions, it was worth it. You can see some of it at vimeo.com/super8shooter/videos

  • Got one of these a while back...one of these days I'll actually buy some film.

  • @THEum3k yeah give it a go, you can buy film "process paid" so it's not too bad.

  • Did you ever shoot any film with this? Get it up on YouTube. I just bought a Canon 814 for $22.

  • @msp1518 that's great but it's going to cost you $100 for 3 mins of film to put on youtube, it's great quality but obsolete stuff has a hefty pricetag, in 2011 I reckon if you want super8 (used sparingly ie 20 secs here in there in your short or movie) then an iphone app called 8mm is the way to go.

  • @msp1518 I shot some footage I'll put it up in a day or so, sorry for the late reply I have another youtube account and haven't been here for awhile. Hope the 814 is going cool for you.

  • super8 is film, right?

  • @bakonfreek yeap.

  • Just purchased one from a yard sale. How in the heck do you release the cartridge? Mine came with only the camera and case. Is there a key you need?

    Thanks

  • Hi - check the dial has reached 50ft, then press the release button below the viewfinder, cartridge should just slide out.

  • nice camera

  • Hey guys, i have an 518 super 8 of my grandfathers and i told have the manual so i told know how to use it! :(

  • @nicbanny

I do not have the manual. But I know a few functions...however do not know how to set "R" or "RL" (what "RL" is stand for? and what are these modes for on the button ("R" or "RL"). Another: button on the left - what is it for?

I can't keep an arrow (when using gray card to use F-stops ) how do I fix it (stop an arrow) on chosen F-number (i.e., F-4 or F-22)? Other words - how to keep an arrow from mooing after I choose a certain lens opening (F-tops)?

    Thank you!

  • i have this exact camera too, theyre amazing!! theyre great quality for the price, i paid about 9USD for mine.

  • It looks brand new, is it?, and if so where did u get it and how much?

  • Hi, it's not new I guess it ws just really well looked after, I paid around 20USD for it, works perfectly, you should definately buy a super8 camera.

  • Nice camera! You're going to love shooting with it!
