Of course, I don't deny that sometimes you do get instructors who abuse their position of authority. But that's the case in any organisation. The system isn't perfect, but its what we have for now.

One of the objectives of basic military training, in ANY military around the world, is to break down the individualism of each recruit, and to make them realise that if or when the shit hits the fan, they need to be thinking about the man next to them, not just themselves. Part of breaking down that individualism is carried out by the instructors doing what more sensitive people view as "talking like they're worth a damn"

If theres anything I've learned, the precise behaviour of the officer in disciplining, reasoning, tone of voice etc. is what rapidly loses respect and rapport among the men. There is a very thin and fine line between training and ill treatment.

in real ops , no one digs trench with the rifle slung. there will be other soldiers on guard around the perimeter to provide security. digging with rilfe slung is just to make the training that bit harder..
@carouselmeister its really true. i went through field camp myself. and before the letters from love ones was to pass to us, they will punish us like nobody business until they found that you guys cannot take it, and they pass you the letter. and trust me, when u received the letter itself, you sure cry before you even open it up the envelope. :/

This is terrible. I will never trust my life with these softies. I admit our training back then was already very relaxed, but I did not expect SAF to degrade until like that. This a documentary of Singapore Ladies Armed Forces (SLAF). They always argue a strong mind is important. Even with all the high-tech drones, weaponry and laptops, a mind that cannot withstand the physical rigors and hardship can never be any better no matter how academically accomplished he is.
Took them more then 5hrs to dig a shellscrape? And still can post up this video to showcase the army "boys"?? And what's with the2LT's watermelon face? And what is "You better double I tell you... better DOUBLE!!" at 4.55mins... Has "run faster" from the army jargen "Double Up" change to just "Double"? Overly dramatised...
The recruits tired faces remind me of my experiences in People's Defence Force. We don't just dig shell scrapes, we dig command posts that can fit in 1 GS table and for 2 operators :-P You need proper equipment to dig bigger holes, spades and changkuls (not ET which is good for shaping only), plus the occasional plant to scoop....and not to mention 1000 sandbags!
Also explains why our soldiers are now soft and need maids to carry their full packs. They take so damn long to dig a bloody shell scrape and ,sorry, I just cannot agree to a whole platoon crying like babies after a hard day.

By far, the most heart-wrenching and yet heart warming episode. The toughness have been witnessed by many and it has touched the hearts of many to be proud of boys who have gone through this phase to be a man. It was indeed a great arrangement to have the letter writing to light up the fading morale of each soldiers! Nonetheless, may SAF promise that all soldiers are well taken care of despite the tough training.

and just for ur info, wad u see in this video is merely a sneak preview of wad we been through for the field camp. indeed, we maybe softer compared to the past generation but that doesnt mean we r pussies. and bloodyfool23. thr maybe other company who train tougher than wad we been thru but u cannot say we train any way easier than u guys. who are you to complain when u complete ur 24km route march inland and didnt go through the tough terrain in tekong before u pop?

This is terrible. I will never trust my life with these softies. I admit our training back then was already very relaxed, but I did not expect SAF to degrade until like that. This a documentary of Singapore Ladies Armed Forces (SLAF). They always argue a strong mind is important. Even with all the high-tech drones, weaponry and laptops, a mind that cannot withstand the physical rigors and hardship can never be any better no matter how academically accomplished he is.

The recruits tired faces remind me of my experiences in People's Defence Force. We don't just dig shell scrapes, we dig command posts that can fit in 1 GS table and for 2 operators :-P You need proper equipment to dig bigger holes, spades and changkuls (not ET which is good for shaping only), plus the occasional plant to scoop....and not to mention 1000 sandbags!

Also explains why our soldiers are now soft and need maids to carry their full packs. They take so damn long to dig a bloody shell scrape and ,sorry, I just cannot agree to a whole platoon crying like babies after a hard day.

By far, the most heart-wrenching and yet heart warming episode. The toughness have been witnessed by many and it has touched the hearts of many to be proud of boys who have gone through this phase to be a man. It was indeed a great arrangement to have the letter writing to light up the fading morale of each soldiers! Nonetheless, may SAF promise that all soldiers are well taken care of despite the tough training.

compared to my field camp i feel that army life now is soo much better, laptop for recruits, letter from parents during field camp - so touching, and soon to have indoor live-firing wtf? my platoon sergeant wasn't even half as nice as the guy in this video is.

The letter writing part is really quite something. I never had that during my time.
The army really messed up your senses, pushed your body beyond its limit and then, the final blow, which was just brilliance in my opinion! They yank your heart out! Sweet.

when i digging my shell scrape i jus wish that i not that tall...jus imagine if u digging a fire hole for the section, u be curse and swear by ur section mate cos they need to dig according to ur height for a extra depth...wtf...haha... I see some of them digging aimlessly.. The best way to do it, I believe, is to mark out the area you are going to dig and start digging from the center outwards...

tip to shell scrape digging is pre prepare.... make sure ET blade sharp. then make sure you are digging not farming .... good luck... i think
