I promise all the earthbound fans I will get all earthbound games in America when I become older and get the money this has been my dream since I was 8 and I am in my middle teams I say down with reggie we all get the money buy the earthbound name and we make that game ourselves earthbound fan boy or girl if we a true fans we must do this if we are true fans I promise before I die I will get that game realesed it is my lifes goal.
if earthbound ever does get on the vc it will far outnumber the sales of any vc games. By far greatest snes game ever. I own a copy. expensive? yes. Worth it? completly.
Originally there was an intention to bring the Mother series to North America. But thing is Nintendo would have to release Earthbound on the Virtual Console first to determine the series' viability. Last I heard there would need to be major edits made to the game to get it released here, due to elements in the game such as the music that lean heavily on infringing copyright. Unfortunately Nintendo of Japan doesn't want to make those changes, so thats the problem
@Fireouch In Clan of the Gray Wolf's Earthbound review, which you can find here on youtube, he mentions a number of titles that "lean heavily on infringing copyright," but they were still released and in some cases, re-released in the U.S. That's why I don't accept the copyright infringement theory.
...listed on the ESRB site at one point and it topped a poll in Nintendo Power asking fans what game they want to see most on the Virtual Console. It's also clear to me that the theory holds water because I heard it was more than a theory from starmen.net, practically the most reliable source of info for the Mother series out there. They have their connections with people on the inside. If you want i can find the original article.
@Fireouch First of all, I've read that article, so I know what you're talking about, and the video that I was referring to addresses Starmen.net's theory concerning copyright infringement, and it successfully refutes it. Secondly, Nintendo's had a number of lawsuits filed against them already, including the Wii remote, but that didn't stop them from releasing it. They're no strangers to lawsuits, as the Wii was subject to MANY lawsuits.
@TheIndigoEffect That video doesn't outright disprove Nintendo couldn't have possibly made decided against "Earthbound" because of the music. It merely touches upon why that decision doesn't make sense. I'm inclined to think what starmen said could be true because they actually had an inside contact. Secondly, Nintendo has dealt with lawsuits in the past but do you really think they tolerate them? The point was is that if their lawyers could foresee a potential lawsuit they'd want to avoid it
@Fireouch Assuming you're correct, why hasn't Nintendo released Mother/Earthbound Zero on the Virtual Console? It's already been translated into English, and it has no copyright infringement issues whatsoever. Furthermore, it would be a great way to gauge the demand for the series AND it would allow you to play the games in chronological order. It's the same reason Nintendo doesn't release games like Devil World, Famicom Wars, or the Mysterious Murasame Castle on the VC: they don't want to.
@TheIndigoEffect Good point, I've never heard anyone bring that up. If I had to guess, well, it's as you said, they probably don't want to, and they're probably just more hesitant to release that one than Mother 2. Nintendo is most likely hesitant about the series in general, and the only way they'd feel "safe" enough to gauge interest in the series would be through "Earthbound". It's the game in the series everyone is most familiar with and it's less archaic. So yeah I dunno, I'm curious now.
@Fireouch Even now, Nintendo has chosen not to allow the release of Xenoblade Chronicles, Pandora's Tower, or the Last Story in the U.S., even though the Wii is hurting for new games. This is the company that chose not to release Star Fox 2 on SNES because they thought it would hurt the N64's success. They really don't need a good reason to make a stupid decision.
@TheIndigoEffect Stuff like that is definitely stupid decisions on Nintendo's part, but for a different reason than the stupidity behind not releasing Earthbound on the VC. I don't know what their deal is it seems like as the years go by NOA seems more and more resistant to releasing more games in a wide variety, only giving a shit about minigame casual compilations and and their most major franchises.
