  • o well at least we got payback by knocking them ot of ncaa tourney 6-2

  • Horrible call. They even reviewed it and found it not to be a goal. I support neither team, but Wisconsin got screwed on this one.

  • You miss the point here, that goal was actually dissallowed causing DU to win the game instead of the game to go into OT. It was disallowed after the head ref took a look at the over head view and made a bad call saying the puck was not in the net when time expired, however in reality as this clip shows it was in the net with .5-.8 sec to spare in the 3rd

  • Yea and the play in a weak conference...let see they have a ranking of 28th in tough schedule..they wcha has the 9th..Blue is weak and that will be proven when they come out here. Maybe u will get lucky and not have to face Colorado College. we have owned you guys

  • they should be able to get it rite they fucked us over

  • Watch it really closely it went in before the game ended

  • They need to look at changing this rule. Not fixing the mistake is wrong. Plus, Wisconsin has everything men want-Beer, Chicks and Hockey. Go Badgers.

  • Can someone tell me why if the WCHA stated it was a mistake didn't they start the overtime on Sat Night? On the Badgers website it posted at 8:19pm on Jan 12, 2008.

  • The game was over. Even though it was a mistaken call, and the WCHA apologized, they can not change the outcome. The officials ruled no goal and the game was over. The only time they can continue a game the next day, is when they postpone one.

  • I think since the wcha said it was a mistake they should atleast give both teams one point and call it a tie. Those points could be a big thing in wcha playoffs. THIS is the second time that same offical gave DU a game. dont worry DU is choking now

  • The official in the box who queues up the video has NO authority to interject his opinion and is basically at the mercy of the on-ice official. Schmidt asked for a still-frame of the goal with the clock at zeroes, which showed the puck at the top of the crease. Unfortunately for Schmidt (and the Badgers) what the photo showed was the puck BOUNCING OUT of the net. Again, the official in the box was powerless to overrule or offer further video. Why? I don't know.

  • Draven, that's the crappy part...the original call was good, it's the review that blew it.

Additionally, I was at the game. A friend of mine works for DU athletics and was in the box during the review. He (and other DU athletics people) said they knew it was good BEFORE the replay and were shocked by the overturn. He then explained what happened (next post):

  • The official game clock is synched with the lights behind the goal. You see the red light come on at 0.5 signaling a goal, followed by the green light at 0.0. The green light is tied to the game clock such that when the clock hits 0.0, the green light automatically comes on. Furthermore, the red light cannot be turned on once the green one is on.

  • Also, the WCHA officially apologized before Saturday night's game.

  • The worst part is they called it a goal, then after review they took it away.

  • CRITICAL QUESTION: Is the FSN clock on the screen synced with the arena clock? I know that some arenas have this technology, but it other venues the television clock is set separately and adjusted at stoppages of play. If in fact the clocks are on separate controls, it is possible that the official clock time had expired. I still think Wisconsin got screwed, but it's certainly something to consider.

  • If you watch this replay, you can see that the green light (left side) comes on as the FSN clock expires.

  • Good catch. I'm officially on the "Fire Schmidt" bandwagon.

  • OMG I KNEW IT!!! I was so pissed they didn't call that a goal! I was at the game and knew something was up! They didn't even show replays on the news.

  • There's nothing that they CAN do. The game is already over. He made a mistake but they shouldn't fire him over it. Tough luck, but this is part the game. Before reviewing was so common, putting up with bad calls was an integral part of sports.

  • Wa this play reviewed? I can't believe they blew that call. It should be a tie. I am a big Sioux fan, but the BAdgers got screwed this time.

  • surprisingly they did review the call, talk about home team advantage!

  • Tell u what....That is typical for DU to get the breaks in the game....The wcha and media love them...just look at the polls..they only dropped one place after u guys blasted them..give me a break...Dont worry Wisc fans we will take care of DU for you...Go CC TIGERS

  • Wow... so the WCHA admits that they blew the call, but nothing else is done? Terrible! They need to make them play OT or call the game a tie. Horrible, horrible call...

  • That little piece of Schmidt...

Given the WCHA office's track record of making stupid decisions, I'm guessing that Schmidt calls at least one more series in Madison this season.

  • The badgers got shafted here. I had heard about this yesterday, but I did not expect it to be THIS obvious. This is the exact reason instant replay is being implemented. The goal should have been confirmed.

  • I'm still livid about this. There was like .7seconds left when the light when on for the goal. Worst call ever.

  • Atleast the Badgers rebounded from this BS to a 7-2 beatdown.

  • Amen!

  • This killed me. I woke up half the people in my house screaming in rage at the idiot refs who ripped this goal away from Matt.

  • Randy Schmidt is the worst ref ever. the guy has no idea what he's doing on the ice. how can you blow a call like this, its not even close. wisconsin starts reacting with 0.7 seconds left, which means the puck had to go in with at least 0.8 or even more. i hope the WCHA suspends or fires schmidt

  • This game is currently under protest. The WCHA commissioner has yet to review the tape of this call. It's a no brainer that the goal will stand and the game will go to overtime.

  • somebody needed an energy drink so they can stay on top of the puck action here.replay doesnt lie

  • that was the worst call I've ever seen!

  • red light clearly comes on before game is over, refs both signal before time is out, and badgers are celebrating before time is out... i hope they protest this game/goal, make them play the OT to begin tomorrow's game

  • That call was the worst I have ever seen! I can't wait for Schmidt to come to the Kohl Center! You know he will be hearing it then!
