Public healthcare is fantastic. I have private health insurance too but needed the public system for a massive operation. The system isn't perfect of course but I felt so good and so happy to pay my taxes knowing that if anyone needs its there. I can't contribute medical knowledge, but I can contribute some of my wages knowing it gets used to help people in desperate situations when they need it most, without putting them into a lifetime of debt.

They're just telling ideological stories because they refuse to admit to the fact that the market doesn't work very well within the health care industry. The cold war is over. Communism isn't an issue any more. Now we should sit down and look at practical solutions that works for the best. In some areas the government is actually better at handling things than the market. Not all, but some. And health care is definitely one of them.

Public healthcare is fantastic. I have private health insurance too but needed the public system for a massive operation. The system isn't perfect of course but I felt so good and so happy to pay my taxes knowing that if anyone needs its there. I can't contribute medical knowledge, but I can contribute some of my wages knowing it gets used to help people in desperate situations when they need it most, without putting them into a lifetime of debt.

That's the impact Michael Moore has had on Western Europe. Most of us weren't aware of what were up against until we saw Sicko. I do have an idea.
For example, before my operation I worked out whether I should've gone private (market) or public (public funded). I looked at private treatment (bear in mind I have health insurance too). It was going to cost $60,000. Insurance would cover $45,000 of it. Nice but I don't have $15,000 lying around.
Thankfuly my operation could go through the public system quickly. I can only imagine what it would have been like to wait, knowing my health would get worse. I was only 19.

Bush is dead wrong. The basic problem isn't that people aren't being selective about when they choose to get health care, it's that they're being too selective, and as a result, they don't get the preventative care that's necessary to head off much more expensive conditions down the line. Routine health care is much cheaper than emergency health care.

Profits are good, profits create jobs, build are economy. Sure, there are some bad insurance companies out there but overall I think they do a good job.

Profits don't create jobs. Profits enrich shareholders. WORK creates jobs. There are jobs when someone has more work to do than they can do without assistance, or work of a kind that they do not have the skills or time to accomplish, so they pay someone else to do it. my parents are from Bangladesh, which is a third world country most Americans haven't heard of. In a country like bangladesh they have socialized medical system with government hospitals etc which reduces costs of being hospitalized dramatically.
