  • I think Katz is yet another academic who wants to blame "masculinity" with something evil oin society. I've read quite a bit about Columbine..especailly the writings of the killers. To my knowledge. I do not recall one mention of the plot to be part of "being a man" or connected with klebold or Harris' masculinity in either way. Men are just the more agreesive gender...so of course gender nuetral terms are used...we all know its boys....its not some cover up.

  • There's one thing which noone seems to consider:

Perhaps there really is no right and wrong. Maybe there's no purpose to existence and no afterlife whatsoever.

Maybe it doesn't matter in the slightest who lives and who dies and therefore who kills who, in which case "murder" is just a natural part of life.

    Who can say?

  • oh fuck this guy. the examples cited as with Littleton, CO are just convenient excuses for him to target and paint all men as violent and abusive. when the topic of women come up we hear on and on and on and on that "not all women are like that" yet when the tables are turned theres no mention-just the opposite! Mr Jackson creates the perception that we have an epidemic on our hands, and that men should feel guilt and shame for what others are doing. How about the guilty feel guilty huh?!

  • thanks for the video. males of any class or racial identity are raised to be other than what they naturally are. i have seen sweet, caring boys turn into heathens. it's sad...

  • nobody likes a whiner....

  • R.I.P ...

  • peacemanbillbo - you are obviously a racist ass who is clearly threatened by women, and men who are confident enough in their own identity to take a hard look at what is going on. Did mommy not love you enough? You're pathetic.

  • This guy is such a feminist lackey to feminist funding. He is no different than what Jesse Jackson contributes to African Americans. He is is just a gender baiter whom NEEDS to amplify and exaggerate issues to justify his own survival. His stats are self-serving and have multiple explanation that he is not willing to share. The sad thing is this guy is given way too much credit due to his political correctness...Namely all white anglo saxon men are predators, especially those with money.

  • @peacemanbillbo Your comment made no sense. This man is providing valid observations and sharing his ideas, and you resort to pretty much name-calling. You don't challenge his ideas with any valid counter-argument, you just attack the man himself.

  • This guys is a complete mangina.

  • @StinkyKnobcheese oh hey well you're a complete idiot so i guess it all works out

  • @flailingcow Strike me down with your rapier wit!

  • @StinkyKnobcheese Strike me down with all of your hatred!!

  • Jackson katz rules, as someone said before me. More ppl should listen to him.

  • Heh, he is rather visibly nervous during the presentation, mainly in the beginning. I mean, you would think one would get over that by this age. Meh...

  • I'm so confused as to how the feminist perspective has anything to do with school shootings......

    Hmmmmmmmm lets break it down

    boy gets picked on

    boy gets made fun of

*repeat repeat repeat for several years*

Young man now mentally unstable due to abuse endured throughout scholastic career, now embarks on a crusade to kill people who made him the way he is.

What does any of this have to do with feminism?

There's a reason feminists aren't asked to voice their opinion on male school shootings.

  • @Frytard He claims that it's "antiquated views of masculinity" and "patriarchal society" that led to the shootings. He's talking out of his ass, of course. It's "patriarchal society" that keeps boys from doing things like that. Seung-Hui Cho, Eric Harris, and Dylan Klebold were boys who LACKED the proper discipline and socialization.

  • @Frytard You're focusing too much on his stance as a feminist rather than on the arguments he brings up. He is saying that that societal influences are breeding boys to gain respect through violent domination. Actual feminism isn't something addressed.

  • Yes, but my comment was a reflection on the fact that we have accepted the murdering of people as normal.

  • "Challenging" is a good name for this channel. Most of the videos I comment on I can easily say something, but there is no one obvious right answer to the problems he brings up.

Feminism has nothing to do with a boy bringing a gun to school. It's hard for a woman or someone working to advance women, to understand what goes on in a boy's mind.

  • Are you kidding me? So we are responsible even when we are not violent? Nice way to encourage men to support women. This guy is another radical feminist. He's the eason why men resent women. The guy wants to blame men. Why support him.

  • He is saying men or "boys" are being brought up to act in out in a hostile manner due to existing conditions facilitated by our culture.

  • Hey

Can anyone tell me what exactly he is arguing?

other than the fact that people are living quiet lives of desperation.

    Thanks

  • @kimzy91 There's a very informative documentary on google video called Tough Guise, that addresses Katz' position to much greater detail.

  • this guys a shit speaker.....he keeps pausing, hes got no flow

  • @CANAD14N As much as I hate Jackson Katz, I'm afraid I must point out that you're not helping by criticizing his speaking style. If you must criticize him, focus on his arguments, which are very shoddy.

  • I am a quiet, white guy. I keep a neutral basis on pretty much everything because i don't want to be a part of the drama. For Jackson Katz to tell me im part of the problem, it makes me want to act out against him. How dare he call me the problem. This jackass.

  • @LutzfromPS2 I agree with you. This asshole is another guy who blames men and never holds women responcible for violence they create. He claims more than 90% violence is created by men, but I checked his stats and found out that the FBI does not tabulate or support his data.

  • MURDER IS THE LEADING CAUSE OF DEATH IN PREGNANT WOMEN. Usually by a husband or boyfriend. Stop Domestic violence. Check out our profile! The Outlook-Stop Child abuse / exploitation. Stop Animal Abuse organization.

  • @ The0utlook

Pregnant women are too young to die of old age.

Most pregnant women are too young & healthy to die of heart disease, long-term smoking effects, blood pressure.

Many pregnant women are careful, give up smoke & drink. Women are generally less reckless than men, less accidents. Medicine has advanced, reducing pregnancy complications. Unintentional death is mostly eliminated, murder leads by default. Pregnant women are some of the safest people. More men than women are murdered.

  • Katz is a jew liar.

Why aren't the jew neocons challenging him?!

  • Hes right about one thing. Men need to speak up.

Against single minded, simple minded gender ideologies. Debunk the illogic, irrationality, fallacies and falsehoods.

Yes social discussion needs to be between men and women, not dominated by feminism

That would be like male and female communists discussing the merits of capitalism. Whats the point of having both genders involved if its all dominated by fallacies, rhetoric, propaganda and agendas?

  • Watched one too many video games? This guy doesnt know what the @#%$ he taking about.

  • Most people don't like to hear the truth, but that doesn't mean truth is diminished. Rock on Jackson Katz!

  • I think he's full of himself.

  • Hes a good speaker

  • This guy has his point's, but, he is also part of a much bigger agenda. Notice the constant use of the word's "progressive" and "feminist"...

  • And what is wrong with a bigger agenda? Better than doing nothing.

  • Well, there's alot that is/could go wrong with it. People could lie, manipulate, etc. People get caught up in it, no one knows what is the truth and what isn't. Maybe, those who do nothing are the smart ones who know better not to get caught up in the bullshit.

  • I'll reiterate what I said earlier, that Jackson Katz is dead wrong in his analysis of these tragic events.

Katz complains that the media is guilty of "an incredible ideological exclusion of feminists' understanding of the world."

Good! The media excludes the feminist perspective precisely because they are ideological zealouts who have nothing of value to contribute.

Katz's answers to the problem, i.e.socialistic re-education of our youth and "men speaking out", are absurd and dangerous

  • Ideological zealots? Perhaps you should reexamine the meaning of your phrase. By saying they have nothing to contribute, it only proves how much of an ideological zealot you are!

I don't see how any of his ideas are absurd, he's trying to accomplish something. And what danger would a reduction in intra-societal violence pose to anyone? Do you think the world will end if men stop beating their wives? If boys stop throwing rocks at each other for fun? If people stop worshiping football players?

  • Some aspects of what he says are worth noting. It is true that we should look closer at masculinity and the values we teach our boys. However, when he starts trying to promote a feminist or marxist viewpoint, I just stop listening. We need to get kooks like him out of the debate and replace them with reasonable, rational individuals, and we need to drop the leftist propaganda. We do NOT need feminists and marxists weighing in on Columbine type shootings, or any other social issue.

  • well puyen thats the point! when confronted with ur problem u want to block it out - this is why he speaks! u guys say feminists hurt men now u say anti sexist males are against u and somehowit goes back to being feminists -in turn making it seem that women are the problem..i see that u and red are quick to blame feminism for this instead of just accepting and starting to change the problem that men themselves have created.when are men going to start owning up to their responsibilities?

  • brebre1920-

100% of everything you write is moronic and utterly nonsensical. You aparrently don't read or comprehend a damn thing from anyone's comments, and you've shown time and again that you lack insight and understanding beyond a third grade level. What in god's name is wrong with you? Oh wait, I already know. You're an idiot!

  • why is it moronic?just cause u think so? thats so stupid -at least have a valid point

and again just insulting me and not telling me exactly what i said was wrong explains it all! u know i made u look like an ass and the way to "get back at me" and "reclaim ur manhood" and "take away from ur embarrassment" u feel that calling me names will do it ....wow puyen! good job!

    hahahahahahahaha - head down!

  • Is it no surprise that all of these social issues started to occur in American society beginning 30 years ago? What has changed in society? Feminism and dissolved families perhaps. In answer to your question girls respond just as adversely but differently from the lack of a father. Courts only give men "visitation" rights to their own child. Women initiate 70% of all divorces.

  • hypermasculinity as you call it is a response to male ostrasization by women, feminists and society. We also have the largest amount of dissolved and fatherless families of any civilization. This of course is caused by unequal rights given to men. The male has been made an outcast of society in the last 30 years. Please tell me someone sees it on TV and commercials at least??? Or just take a Women's Studies course like I did. As a society we are ill in many ways. Feminism has caused great harm.

  • this guy is amazing! i really wish more guys would stand up and speak up like he does so well.

  • Jackson Katz rules. While the other girls in my school have pics of WWE guys under their desks, I got Jackson.

  • Prophet or saint? More like a sissy who detests his own sex--or "de-testes" his own sex. Go ahead. You can HAVE all these panty-waists. He's got a good career going with this whiny gimmick.

As far as WWF, Rambo, etc., these are just over-reactions to the political correctness the cultural castrati has foisted on us all. European "men" simply gave up earlier. No surprise.

  • Jackson Katz does not detest his own sex.

On the contrary, he obviously cares deeply about the unfair social pressures put on many men to be "tough" and not get in touch with their entire humanity.

He is a tremendous advocate of men.

You're obviously not a very bright person, but hopefully you got that.

  • @ruskeerider no, you're shallow enough to believe that fasad. he's a mangina who thinks sexism is anything bad towards women and men are the problems that the planet have.

  • you're an idiot. go away.

  • dont u see thats the point! once a man speaks up about something other than sports or women u call him a sissy - why? dont u see the psychological problems with that? he points it out in his videos and instead of listening with new ears u prove his point. u are using a mind that society has provided u with...fitting urself in a tiny box that says emotion is wrong and only strength, violence and fucking as much women as possible makes the man - but how can that be all? why are men accepting this?

  • @edwardcookiecutter i know it's two years old but i just had to say that that comment made my day.

  • Oh, and what's this "so popular in our culture"? What's popular in this culture, if you're an American like me, is Terminator, Rambo, WWF, and Timothy McVeigh. Everybody in America wants men to be killing machines, constantly ready to bludgeon and maim whatever moves, and detests "sensitivity". So rest assured you have nothing to whine about. You're in a 91% majority. In Europe, on the other hand.........

  • Too bad JAckson Katz is not "run of the mill" or "standard". But in this crappy world, he is nothing short of a prophet; a saint. So, in this beginning of the end of the Dark Ages, I salute Jackson Katz and to his educational discourse I say: BRAVO!!!!

  • Not sure what Marxism has to do with this, but oh well. If you cannot bear to let go of the no-longer-needed tough-guy aura of males, then of course you dislike Katz' message. If, however, you see the damage this does to so many men, and to those who have the misfortune of being around them, you'll get it. And a man can be masculine--and not the least bit feminine--*without* the cowboy/bully/I'm-the-boss swagger that constitues the extreme, which evidently you so admire and lust for.

  • I'm proud to have known Jackson since grade school. One of the good ones, as they say.

  • I'm proud to have dinner with him tonight.

  • Reference MKULTRA program to justify the disarmament policies. Russians and UN troops are here already and their main forces are in South America. The planned military coup, third one by the way, of Sept 1972, was called off due to the discussion about the many weapons that Americans have. Trilateral commission, brainchild of Zeg. Brzezinski and Rockefellers came up with to prepare for the fourth attempt at a military coup soon to come

  • I love this guy.

  • You're a loser...Mr. Katz is great.

  • amen... :)

  • I am totally agree with him

  • If you make fun of voilent loners you are FUCKED that is just the way it is you know there are just some people that you dont make fun of and there the type tha wear black trench coats and combat boots and listen to bands like slayer and kmfdm. Its a simple equation.Voilent loners with guns + Getting made fun of bullied left out and picked on = Columbine and all of the other school shootings.

  • school shootings is the effort of MK ULTRA (done by one of US gov. own agencies, A covert operation if you will) a kind of MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE thing!

  • Yeah its the games and the music

  • He is right. Thinking men do need to challenge each other whenever they witness sexist or violent attitudes and behaviour. But since many other men draw self-esteem and personal empowerment by being sexist and violent so are very attached to being that way, it will be a rocky road. You have to be strong and brave.

  • Way to go, Katz. Couldn't have said it better myself.

  • Nellieeeee, the thing is, look at the female main characters in Kill Bill and Tomb Raider. They are both highly sexualized or beautiful at the least. Their violence is still put in a context of their sexuality, which is not empowering for women.

  • oh shut up with sexist crap

  • While I agree that males are socialized to be violent by our culture look at some of the newer movies such as Kill Bill, or Tomb Raider etc where the women are extremely violent. What does that say about how we percieve "strength" and "power"? Plus when I was in school we almost never saw girls fighting. Now it's not unusual. I think society as a whole is becoming more violent. Girls and boys are internalizing violence. Seems to me there is less tolerance in general.

  • That's because we've socialized girls to believe that "equality" means acting more like boys. So equality will be achieved when half of serial killers are female? That's not what feminists want.

  • lol

  • blazak is genius!

  • Thanks - Jackson is a hero who I had the chance to hang out with last year. We need more men who make this stand. As bell hooks said, feminist men love justice more than manhood.

  • cool! thats really cool!

  • Interesting point. But if boys and girls are equally violent, how come the majority (like in the 90-99%) of rapists and batterers are men?

  • I am aware of the statistics.I'm not saying boys and girls are equally violent, But I agree with blazak. We are beginning to socialize girls to resort to violence too. It's slowly creeping into our society.

  • Katz makes an excellent analysis of the school shootings and masculinity. I have met him in person before and he's a great guy. I am glad he revealed how feminists are ignored in these debates, and he really speaks the truth. This is a mature and constructive and critical way of looking at these recent events, which are NOT isolated tragedies.

  • amen

  • hou, nigga, hou?

  • hou, nigga, hou? :|

    i will c u inn hell. nigga.

  • hou, nigga, hou?

  • amen to jackson katz... american people need to wake up.

  • The question is why male violence has been so common and is still so common, especially in contemporary society where we claim to be against such violence.

  • the problem is that there is violence, not that men are being violent while women aren't

  • But that IS the whole point to Katz, the fact that the gendered nature of violence isn't mentioned or explored. Men are overwhelmingly the perpetuators and the victims of violence, and when a victim, women are most often victimized by men. So why isn't the "violence" problem in America being discussed through a gendered lens? Katz argues this happens because we construct men as being inherently violent and show "real" men as being violent.

  • oh so i guess it's okay then that men have always been violent. I bet your one of them.

  • Katz. Thanks for raising the issue.

Violence in male teens is caused by a diet high in sugar, most of whom are on SSRI drugs for ADAD.

Ban drugs, use chromium to prevent ADAD.

Girls are more likely to kill their own child, due to PPP, due to a loss of chromium in the process of birthing a child. Post partum psychosis.

  • Violence is a human issue. The problem should be addressed by someone more qualified other than katz with his baseless conjecture.

  • He has a masters degree from Harvard. What makes you think he has no human connection to what he's talking about.

  • I agree that hypermasculinity affects women's self-identities too. But it just emphasizes that being "male" (as in those hypermasculine definitions) is a preferred status in society. So not surprisingly, some women want a piece of that "respect" and they learn that this is the way to get it, just like guys do.

  • Disagree with most of what is said.

    Remember Brenda Spencer?

  • I agree w/ jiromo. Education is the first thing that needs to happen. And if you think about it, education is all that needs to happen in many cases. Once people know how patriarchy affects everyone, they can make change within their own lives based on that knowledge. Read his literature, you might find solutions there.

  • well, HOW to fix the problem is the hardest question. but like he said people should just speak up. and i think we still have a ways to go before we come up with "clear and realisable solutions" because first things first people have to become aware of the problem before they can fix it and educating and discoursing about is what we need to do. especialy considering how unacknowledged these problems are

  • The guy made good points, but he did not show me concrete, clear and realisable solutions. Too bad.

  • Clash, if you'd read any of his literature, you'd know that he doesn't just single out white males.

It seems that you have lots of time in your day, and you choose to spend it bringing down those that are trying to help others. Example: you make a comment about Katz not addressing sexism in other countries, but it looks like you're a racist. Obviously you don't care about sexism, and you're really just trying to discredit someone who's trying to help. Next time try doing something constructive.

  • school shootings THURSDAY NIGHT COMMENTARY. Check it out and let us compare videos and discuss this very ongoing deep subject.

  • We will be hosting Gender Night at Westview High School in Avondale, Az on Dec. 14th 2007 from 6:30-9:00pm in our performing arts center. This video addresses what we will be covering in our program...spread the word.

    Peace

  • I love you, Jackson -- you rock! :-)

  • That first sentence that he reads is spot-on exactly right. The rest of it is spot-on as well, but I especially liked the first sentence.

  • i've sent a vid of webster tarpley international terrorism expert on the blacksburg mass. it expands your position

  • Such a great, honest commentary. Really, people are so brainwashed with the pop-media type of thinking that they completely lost their common sense and ability to see the reality. It's pathetic!

  • THANK YOU!!!!!!!!

  • Thank you very much for posting this video. Very well put.

  • Good video. Simply put...

  • I agree there is 'hyper masculinity'--see video 'Hip Hop: Beyond Beats and Rhymes' for example. But I disagree that this doesn't effect females. In Uk experience I have seen this grow. Ie., females becoming very violent. So it's the glorification of hypermasculinity bleeds into some females self-identities too
