I went to the doctor for only my sinus problem and because of my ring worm i had on my thigh thats all i went for they gave me nasal spray and Omnicef and Cetirizine Last on is Prednisonen i took them all in one day i had a weird expriance i got realy tierd sleeped my heart was beating realy fast i was hearing some noise in my right ear like being slaped i play sports alot and eat healthy but dam i had such a bad mood that i felt like beating somone i was getting paranoid i only tried it once
this shit works. but the first thing it does to you is acne and restlessness and weight gain. i didn't mind the weight gain part though because i was underweight due to my health problem.
This drug saved my life and continues to give me quality of life. I have side effects but I can function - I was much worse off before it. I have taken low dose corticosteroids for 40+ yrs resulting in HPA Axis/exogenous-adrenal insufficiency/atrophy. I take DHEA with it. I understand why prednisone is considered the worst wonder drug but it has made a difference in my life. Doctors prescribe this often in ignorance -- be informed before you take it and NEVER take it unless you have no choice.
I was diagnosed with Prednisone after having increased swelling and rashes all around my eyes and facial area. After the first four days, I began to grow more and more arm, leg and facial hair. The poison ivy has not been cured yet... What do I do?
This drug is Amazing for short term but f u take long term it can hurt u in so many ways,.The thing that sucks the most is how big the cheeks get ...BUT anyways if ur about to use this drug ask ur doc. to explain side effect cuzzz i rele hated the side effecs..IM FINALY OF IT ..I WAS ON IT FOR 6 MMONTHS i hate predisone..
Whew! Nothing like Prednisone to bring out our nasty side: Yes, this is not a drug you should take without a full explanation from your doctor or pharmacist about the potential side effects, some of the worst of which are outlined above. Better yet, go to the internet to locate this information, print it out, and review it with your doctor.
I have been on prednisone now for 6 years with a starting dose of 100mg per day. I suffered drug induced psychosis ( I was psychotic) with no warning from my hematologist. Now on a dose of 10 mg I am left with bad mood swings along with a list of long term damaging effects. prednisone can rightly be seen as a life saving medication in a number of serious disorders (I suffer from Ideopathic Hypereosinophilic syndrome) I have regular DEXA (Bone densitometry) scans to monitor the bone damage.
I know exactly what you mean about the prednisone. I have ulcerative colitis and many years ago they had to put me at 100mg per day. and was loosing my mind (literally). But I finnaly got it back under control and I haven't had a flare up that bad since. and right now im at 15mg of prednisone w/ 75mg mercaptopurine
Try being on the crap for 5 years starting at 5. i gaind 100 pounds i got sick constantly and when they cut me off becuase of my sever weight gain.i may be tall but but thats still alot. my asthma never improved it just got worse because my lungs where so dependent on it so i almost died.3 days after they weind me off it. they need to make a cure for astmuh not a suppresent .if you have a choice dont take it its great for shot term but never take it long term. it hurts more than it helps.
Pred also causes osteonecrosis (bone death)...not just bone loss...but they don't tell you that! My daughter was diagnosed with this in her one shoulder, both elbows, wrists, knees and ankles after only 4 months with the highest dose of 90mg. PLEASE, if your joints hurt or swell, get an MRI b/c an x-ray will not detect it early enough to give you a chance at joint preserving surgery!
I was taking pred the whole of my new kidney's life (since 1999) and I think when I was on dialysis also, its negligent of the doctors to not tell you it can damage your bones, I've since stopped taking it cold turkey I was on a low dose 10mg but still worried and my doctor doesn't even know I don't take it anymore
How about osteonecrosis? They don't tell you about that side affect. This crippling bone disease is veiled as "bone pain" on the pharmacy sheets and you won't know you have it until your bone starts to fracture and cause pain. If your joints hurt, DEMAND a MRI (it doesn't show up on regular x-ray until in the later stages). It can remain dormant in the body for 3, sometimes 10 years later after your last does of Pred. Finding it early stage 1 or 2 and surgery can prevent joint replacement.
Why do some people blame prescription drugs for everything that has ever happened to them? I ate an apple and then tripped on the stairs, so apples cause uncoordination. I took off my shoes and stubbed my toe, bare feet causes foot trauma.
I'm not blaming...it's a known fact for 30 years now..after you get osteonecrosis, one of the first questions the orthopedic surgeon asked was were you on Prednisone? Do you own research if you don't believe me...google Prednisone and osteonecrisis and see what you get. I'm just trying to raise awareness so people can make informed decisions about their healthcare.
If you have CAH you will have to take this the rest of your life. It has horrible side effects. Right now I am being treated for Gastristis and I have to take nexium.
this stuff is a unwanted nesistary in my life now,i been on it for 4 months and put on 20kilos,i have never had so many side effects from a tablet than this thing, ive had to go onto my anti depressants again,if it wasnt for for the fact i need to breath i wouldnt be on this stuff
Taking pred for my Crohn's; Makes me eat like a horse! ...also makes me feel somewhat 'manic'. It does work though, and puts my flareup to rest again....
I took it for 6 years as an immunosuppresive for a kidney transplant, and I went from 120 lbs. to almost 200 lbs., and I had SEVERE case of "moon face". When my kidney finally rejected, I was definetly sad, but in a morbid way, relieved, because I started losing weight, and lost 80 lbs. within the next 6 mths. I didn't even try. It just came right off. I plan to have another transplant some day, but I hope that there are better meds at that time so that I may not have to take much Prednisone.
im taking 75 mg of prednisone high dose b/c of my kidneys and im concerned because im experiencing a lot of hair loss is this temporary or permanent??? My doctor will put me on a lower doses soon will that help with hair loss??
Hair loss? I'm sure it's listed in the side effects somewhere but it's not very common. If you are female I'd get a thyroid function test. For men, finasteride 1mg is good.
@LeafsNation1990 How much weight did you gain?

If you like:
1. Painful bloody scabs forming in your nose
2. Having trouble sleeping
3. Flu like symptoms
4. Pain when swallowing
Prednisone might be right for you.
Seriously I can't believe my doctor gave me this for a little nasal inflammation. Unless you are about to die, don't take this stuff.
