I recognize a lot of elements in this from the book. I really didn't like the book though. It lacks a lot of what's present in George MacDonald's other stories. I just ordered Phantases, and I hope it will be better. I think it's because The Princess and the Goblin is more of a children's story. George MacDonald actually wrote a lot of fairy tales for adults, and I've read some awesome ones, like The Giant's Heart.

As much as I love GMD stories (note my screen name, and I wrote a bio of George MacDonald last year), I have to say that this movie is terrible and bears almost no resemblence to the excellent book from which it came. About the only thing this movie has in common with the novel is the name.

Yeah, The film "The Princess and the Goblin" is based on the book "The Princess and the Goblin." The book "The Princess and Curdie" is a sequal to "The Princess and the Goblin" but a film adaptation was never made for it.
