Does this prove anything regarding a human presence on the moon? Of course not, more than a dozen spacecraft have landed or impacted on the moon, and a few have returned samples back to earth (and of course have sent pictures by radio link). So the presence of man-made machines on the moon is NOT the proof of human presence back in the 1960s, 1970s
@thelovedreamer - Actually, google 'Apollo 15 Magazine SS' and go to the first link. Not only do you find the photo shown here (AS15-82-11122) but all the pictures before and after that photo at the same location, where that is part of a set. You will also notice that the 'machine' is in fact the lunar rover, and those photos include the astronauts and their footprints. Surely that's evidence of human presence on the moon in photos where the landscape perfectly matches the results from Kaguya?

It's a 3D imaging process that proves the photos were taken from Apollo missions on the moon and the topography EXACTLY matches that of the Kaguya. If you want pictures of the equipment look at the LROC photos.

why do you think the hills look different than they do on the Japanese and Chinese moon probes. The photos in the ML don't really look the same. Air&Space @ the Smithsonian state that the blast from the rocket was 1/6 mile wide and whitened that area. LRO shows no such tell-tale blast. Actual landing footage on Apollo 14 shows dust being blown away upon landing.

Because ive been scowering the internet for photographs of the landing site from this orbiter, and havent found anything more then terrible images that my webcam could have taken better. the post landing looks brighter cause the engine had market the ground. This brightened was confirmed by Japan probe Selene. The camera resolution is not enough to photograph the devices the astronauts let in Moon, like the rover and the remain lower sectionj of the lunar module (only the upper section return to Moon orbit afiter module Take off).
The fuzzy detail images is from the japan's probe, and by stereoscopy angles they can mathematically trace the 3D from the surface. So this prove man was in Moon. In the 60's was impossible t0o get such detail from surface, even with the best Earth telescope. Just the photos from Apollo, take by astronauts, were better, cause was shot in surface.

But by those rules of physics, we wouldn't see stars from an orbiter because of reflected light - but we do, all the time, even in released NASA footage. We can see stars from the Earth's surface, even in our age of mass light pollution.

January 23 1960 the bathyscape Trieste dropped to the floor of the Mariana Trench (35,814 ft). The two man crew looked out of the window, saw a few fish,. ate some chocolate and came back up. No manned mission has ever been back there.
There's no point, there isn't much to see and no real scientific value as return for the investment.

There is IMMENSE scientific value from deep-ocean exploration, since it gives us unparalleled insights into the entire ecosystem of our planet - we now have theories from investigation of oceanic vents that life itself originated on the ocean floor. We know less about the depths of our own oceans than we do about the surface of the moon, and more people have been to the latter.
We went to the bottom of the mariana in 1960 and haven't been back (except for a robot probe). If there is scientific value in deep sea exploration (and I do agree that there is), then why not?
The point I'm making is this: The fact we haven't been back to Mariana is no proof that we didn't go in '60, in the same way that us not revisiting the moon is not proof that we didn't in '69
I believe that we went. I've met one of the Apollo astronauts, and there's no way that man did not absolutely 100% believe he had walked on the surface of the moon.

I believe the Japanese are planning a manned mission though I can't remember where I heard that. I wouldn't be surprised to see the Chinese there either. The next US probes go in a couple of weeks. The current plan is a manned mission in 2018. A private mission would be a great thing.
As strange as it sounds. It's much simpler to go into space than explore the depth of our oceans. Due to the relative pressure. In space it's void, so basically you only need material strong enough to keep the pressure in, and resists small impacts. While the deeper you go in our ocean the greater pressure there is on the submersible. So it takes a lot more money to come up with a design that can withstands those pressures.
(1) Costs. Launching space ship with life support system requires hundreds billion dollars. Only the space race in the cold war allows such expensive plans.
(2) Computers. Modern electronics let us build a prove with automatic controller. There is no need for human pilot. We can equip other devices instead of heavy, expensive LSS.

Yep. The probe is designed for other stuff. try taking a picture of a 10m target from 100,000m with HD res. However they did pick up an albedo difference in the landing area caused by the rocks being exposed to rocket exhaust plumes.

Why do you think stars appear in rendered terrain images? Apollo images are taken in daytime of the moon. No stars would be caught in the daylight photo.

The Soviets had the ability to track anything emitting a radio signal, which the Apollo did. It's called "triangulation" and had been used for decades. (you and a friend can find out where Direct TV 3 is using the same method). Many people picked up the radio signal from the moon with their own dishes.
Luna 15 was supposed to be a soft-lander return vehicle. It crashed into the back side of the moon the day Apollo 11 left the moon. Plenty of time to spy.

Does this prove anything regarding a human presence on the moon? Of course not, more than a dozen spacecraft have landed or impacted on the moon, and a few have returned samples back to earth (and of course have sent pictures by radio link). So the presence of man-made machines on the moon is NOT the proof of human presence back in the 1960s, 1970s

Not only do you find the photo shown here (AS15-82-11122) but all the pictures before and after that photo at the same location, where that is part of a set. You will also notice that the 'machine' is in fact the lunar rover, and those photos include the astronauts and their footprints. Surely that's evidence of human presence on the moon in photos where the landscape perfectly matches the results from Kaguya?

It's a 3D imaging process that proves the photos were taken from Apollo missions on the moon and the topography EXACTLY matches that of the Kaguya. If you want pictures of the equipment look at the LROC photos.

I'm with Starview1 on the fact the landings took place, but it's a little wierd why on google moon where the launch base platforms would be they've stuck a drawing on top - which seems an odd thing to do since i bet everyone going in to look at the hi res sites would like to be able to see the actual spot. By concealing them they just encourage the conspiracy theorists. Disappointing too to find the sites covered up like that !

Plus, I thought the moon was rocky and hard, not sandy. You can see the rover kicking up a lot of dirt the same way a dune buggy would on Earth. I am not a conspiracist. I wonder, too. Just to explain why CTs are bad. Neil Armstrong got a letter from a school teacher who was convinced the landings were faked. She told him he was a liar and a terrible person, and she was going to teach her school kids that we never went to the moon.

the post landing looks brighter cause the engine had market the ground. This brightened was confirmed by Japan probe Selene. The camera resolution is not enough to photograph the devices the astronauts let in Moon, like the rover and the remain lower sectionj of the lunar module (only the upper section return to Moon orbit afiter module Take off).

The fuzzy detail images is from the japan's probe, and by stereoscopy angles they can mathematically trace the 3D from the surface. So this prove man was in Moon. In the 60's was impossible t0o get such detail from surface, even with the best Earth telescope. Just the photos from Apollo, take by astronauts, were better, cause was shot in surface.

I lost the link but I recently read some goofball's explanation why the photos would not work in 1/6 gravity! More and more crazy explanations why "we could never have been on the moon". No matter how much proof is given some will never allow themselves to believe we were there.

But by those rules of physics, we wouldn't see stars from an orbiter because of reflected light - but we do, all the time, even in released NASA footage. We can see stars from the Earth's surface, even in our age of mass light pollution.
I'm 100% confident that the USA landed on the moon in the 60's. My question would be: why haven't we been back, in all that time? Why just stick to the equivalent of putting a toe in the water of a boundless ocean for the last 40-odd years?

It is to do with how bright the foreground is.
The sunlit surface of the moon in the foreground would be very bright, and the camera would need a short exposure time so as to not overexpose it.
Whereas the stars are very dim by comparison, and they need a long exposure time in order to show up.
As to why no one has been back, it is probably to do with the fact that they went for all the wrong reasons.
That and manned space flight is very expensive.

It's the Triest question.
January 23 1960 the bathyscape Trieste dropped to the floor of the Mariana Trench (35,814 ft). The two man crew looked out of the window, saw a few fish,. ate some chocolate and came back up. No manned mission has ever been back there.
There's no point, there isn't much to see and no real scientific value as return for the investment.
We are planning on going back to the moon as part of the Mars mission though

The only problem with the Triest question is that it is fundamentally wrong. There is IMMENSE scientific value from deep-ocean exploration, since it gives us unparalleled insights into the entire ecosystem of our planet - we now have theories from investigation of oceanic vents that life itself originated on the ocean floor. We know less about the depths of our own oceans than we do about the surface of the moon, and more people have been to the latter.

OK. I didn't quite explain that properly.
We went to the bottom of the mariana in 1960 and haven't been back (except for a robot probe). If there is scientific value in deep sea exploration (and I do agree that there is), then why not?
The point I'm making is this: The fact we haven't been back to Mariana is no proof that we didn't go in '60, in the same way that us not revisiting the moon is not proof that we didn't in '69

I believe that we went. I've met one of the Apollo astronauts, and there's no way that man did not absolutely 100% believe he had walked on the surface of the moon.
I absolutely question why we have never been back - or why we have not explored the depths of the oceans.
As to a return to the ocean depths - look up Deep Flight Challenger. Whether or not the government thinks its a good idea, we are going back. And I'd predict a private moon mission before much longer.

Yeah the deep ocean thing is a puzzle. I wonder how much we actually do spend on deep ocean research? I suppose the people with the cash don't see it as so glamorous, it's not so much of a big news item.
I believe the Japanese are planning a manned mission though I can't remember where I heard that. I wouldn't be surprised to see the Chinese there either. The next US probes go in a couple of weeks. The current plan is a manned mission in 2018. A private mission would be a great thing.

They should fly right over all the Apollo sites. the Apollo descent stage should show up at 10-20 pixels, possibly better with enhancement.

As strange as it sounds. It's much simpler to go into space than explore the depth of our oceans. Due to the relative pressure. In space it's void, so basically you only need material strong enough to keep the pressure in, and resists small impacts. While the deeper you go in our ocean the greater pressure there is on the submersible. So it takes a lot more money to come up with a design that can withstands those pressures.

My guesses for the latter question are:
(1) Costs. Launching space ship with life support system requires hundreds billion dollars. Only the space race in the cold war allows such expensive plans.
(2) Computers. Modern electronics let us build a prove with automatic controller. There is no need for human pilot. We can equip other devices instead of heavy, expensive LSS.
The moon and the ocean have close relationship on the tides and its birth. I'll upload ocean research video if I have time. ;)

Next month the Lunar reconissance orbiter is being launched and that will be able to photograph all the landing sites and pick up all the landers/rovers.
But of course there is no evidence which will ever stop the hoaxers.

Yep. The probe is designed for other stuff. try taking a picture of a 10m target from 100,000m with HD res. However they did pick up an albedo difference in the landing area caused by the rocks being exposed to rocket exhaust plumes.

Also, modern photo-analysis software can detect even extremely good fake photos. There are all sorts of subtleties in light and differences outside the visible spectrum that can be used...techniques no NASA faker could know about in 1969. Why has no one used these techniques on, say, "Earthrise?" instead, you talk about the waving-flag BS

The Soviets had the ability to track anything emitting a radio signal, which the Apollo did. It's called "triangulation" and had been used for decades. (you and a friend can find out where Direct TV 3 is using the same method). Many people picked up the radio signal from the moon with their own dishes.
Luna 15 was supposed to be a soft-lander return vehicle. It crashed into the back side of the moon the day Apollo 11 left the moon. Plenty of time to spy.
