Mmmm Im weary of Lancair after a 15 year helicopter test pilot veteran died after crashing because of a failed engine at 400 feet after take off at my home airport (Brand new Lancair Evo Turbo)
Small world, I have the same plan, and as of a few months ago, my bro in law now has exactly the same camera. We're planning a trip along the Hudson to get some footage of NYC. I can't wait to see how it turns out.
@coma13794 Cool, it will help if he has a wide angle lens. I photographed this with the Canon 16-35mm F2.8L at 16mm. Send me a link when you get some video on-line.
That is what being a pilot is all about. Sometimes you get so caught up with the instruments, radios and flying the airplane, that you forget to just sit back and look out the window.
Yes, it was recorded in full 1080P (1920 x 1080 progressive). But, I believe YouTube converts it to 720P. So the actual footage is better than you're seeing here (even when HD is selected). Plus the actual footage looks awesome on a 50 inch plasma.
It's shot with a Canon SLR still camera, not a regular video camera. Canon released the Canon 5D Mark II around December of 2008. It's the only SLR to shoot full 1080P video onto a full 35mm image sensor. This allows me to use my professional Canon L series lenses. The shot of the Lancair was done with the 16-35mm F2.8 L II from Canon at 16mm. No HD video camera on the market today can compete because their image sensors are tiny in comparison. The "Red" camera is an exception at $30,000.

Very nice quality video, and appears to be such a pristine Lancair! Great job!

does the canopy has UV block?
it would be a torture to sit under the sun for extended period of time.

the image quality is amazing, and I don't have HD capabilities on my computer.
A quality lens makes all the difference, it seems.

Sooo frickin' cool. Who needs the airlines, airports, and TSA when you have one of these?

If you really feel that way, I suggest you support your local small airport.
