@woutertron Thank god for making the distinction.. I mean it really seemed like he was a bass player for a second there... I can't imagine what my life would be like if I had actually managed to enjoy what this man was doing. I'm glad that you pointed out that he seems to be "a drummer with a rather poor choice of instrument" because.... ooh yea it doesn't matter because its the opinion of someone who sees doors closing everywhere he looks.
Ray is one of the best, period. His studio work is flawless. He recorded many of the bass tracks on my "Dominic John-Fallen World Record" CD and I could not be happier with his tracks. He even recorded an acoustic bass track live in the studio with Joe Morris playing congas and yours truly singing and playing the acoustic guitar. That was the most fun I've ever had in the studio. Ray is not just a great bass player he is a professional session musician.
the truth is the only thing that's constructive. shakabass said it perfect even with diplomacy. believe me, i am a bass player and only with truthful criticism i improved.
Shaka took the words out of my mouth. I was just flipping through a couple of this guy's videos and was amazed at the amount of comments pronouncing him to be the world's greatest bassist. This guy isn't a bass player, he's a drummer with a rather poor choice of instrument.
Check out Rays' Black Hole Sun, Donna Lee, and King Kayser here on Youtube. I've known Ray since high school, and have played with and recorded with him, so I have 1st hand knowlege that he's one of the best around. To deny that is to admit that you haven't heard much of his stuff.
Actually Im saying your comments seem to be based out of ignorance since he has videos that directly contradict the he's a drummer with a rather poor choice of instrument comment Itd be like me coming to the conclusion that you have no originality nor technique as a bass player because you can only play gay covers and I IV V progressions based on 2 of your videos I would think that would be a little naïve on my part dont you?
HOLY COW!!! Ray is a monster. I've been a fan of Ray's playing since the '95. Ever beyond greatful to see him back in music and playing some awe inspiring groove therapy. Keep bustin' out more vids on here Ray. YOU IS DA MAN!!!
Amazing your a great player

Ray has an awesone technique. Technically he is in one league with the Buddha and Vic, .... at least what slapping concerns.
