I do believe that Lezak couldve gone faster. i know that might blow some minds, but if you watch the last 25 meters, bernard was swimming almost on the lane line, and lezak was in the middle of the lane, if lezak were a little closer to the lane line, he wouldve been drafting more, and thus gone faster. I am thinking maybe 45.9.

I tried posting on Yahoo about 3 paragraphs of opinions: lost it all, so here's a summary. No regret's staying up to 11:30 EST. Glad the French and American swimmers were generous Losers/Winners. Saw Lezak was making a comeback about 10 meters before the announcers said so. Standing for last 15. Roar of American pride shook the house and woke up everyone in the neighborhood. Bernard inserts both feet in mouth and shoves newspaper up nose.

Honestly this was one of the most exciting things to have ever witnessed in my lifetime of watching the olympics.  The olympics is always really dramatic and this race just proves it, and you got to love the fact that USA were the underdogs in this race, and like the announcer said, it would have to be the perfect race for them to take first. That was insane, outstanding job for everyone. And of course, the fact that France said what they said totally adds to the greatness of the race.

that's what nerves will do to you. the announcers even say towards the end that he's tightening up. maybe he got nervous and was too tense and trying too hard to maintain the lead. Lezak was focused and smart about it "riding the wave"

Yeah i think that was a tactical mistake from the french to let bernard be the anchor. They should have let him run the 3rd leg vs Jones and have bousquet finish it.

Well Lezak swam a 46.06 split. That is the fastest relay split of all time. If you listen closely you can hear Phelps yell, "unbelievable time" and he was talking about Lezak's leg. I agree that Bernard should have swam third for the French and he did panic-flail esp. the last 5 meters. Jones swam well, he just had a bad turn, but he didn't lose that much time for the Americans, and he was expected to be the slowest. Weber-Gale-incredible swim.
